Jerry Brown considers Climate Change a potential Extinction Level Event
Meanwhile, an “El Niño” cycle is poised to drown drought concerns.
After enjoying gloriously warm and sunny weather during my northern European “apology tour”, I was astonished return and find California’s mega-drought seemingly ended with record rainfall.
San Diegans woke up Monday after record-breaking storms brought up to four inches of rain in one community and more than an inch in many others.
“Amazing is the best way to put it,” NBC 7’s Meteorologist Jodi Kodesh said as she described the amount of rainfall San Diego County received in 48 hours.
…Saturday’s rainfall broke records in at least 11 locations, including five places that had the most rain ever recorded on any day in July, according to the National Weather Service.
Now, our media is focusing on “El Niño” and predicting the Golden State will be hit with floods.
This weekend’s rains came from a former hurricane, Dolores. Experts say warm ocean water, influenced by El Niño, allowed the remnants of the unusually wet hurricane to go much farther north than such storms typically go.
They also see El Niño in other unusual weather events of recent months: A dusting of snow blanketed parts of the southern Sierra Nevada in early July, and the so-called Miracle May of rain and snow in the Rocky Mountains helped forestall water reductions from reservoirs that feed California, Nevada and Arizona.
These all appear to be preludes of what could come in winter — for better and worse.
“It’s a sweet promising start,” said Bill Patzert, climatologist for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Cañada Flintridge, but then added: “Except for all the damage it does…. Be careful for what you wish for. Great droughts usually end in great floods.”
Meanwhile, our governor indicates that “climate change” may result in human extinction.
Gov. Jerry Brown, issuing an ominous appeal on climate change, said Tuesday that the world may already have “gone over the edge” on global warming and that humanity must reverse course or face extinction.
Brown, speaking at a summit of mayors from around the world, has increased his already-high profile on climate change in recent months, working to coalesce support for carbon reduction policies ahead of global climate talks in Paris in December.
….Brown’s remarks reflected the urgency of the effort, but also its limitations.
“We don’t even know how far we’ve gone, or if we’ve gone over the edge,” Brown said. “There are tipping points, feedback loops. This is not some linear set of problems that we can predict. We have to take measures against an uncertain future which may well be something no one ever wants. We are talking about extinction. We are talking about climate regimes that have not been seen for tens of millions of years. We’re not there yet, but we’re on our way.”
Many Republicans have said the effects of climate change are overstated. As he has several times, Brown called them “troglodytes,” to applause.
Of course, give range of weather here, I am not certain if we “troglodytes” are going to burn or drown.
Brown’s remarks were made at a conference hosted by Pope Francis, in support of the recent encyclical, Laudato Si. As anticipated, the encyclical is being used to promote the progressive regulatory agenda related to environmental issues.
Furthermore, the real “climate change” from El Niño that will likely increase the state rainfall is not part of rate increase discussions. Local rates are poised to be hiked by almost 17%.
Truly, the only thing in danger of extinction from “climate change” is common sense.

NO “climate scientist” worth the title is predicting anything worse that a few degrees of warming…or lately, a “new ice-age”…with the warming being preferable in terms of stressing humans and our systems. And NONE…not ONE…model-based prediction has been borne out over the last thirty years that I’ve been hearing this BS.
One thing I remember vividly about Kuhlifornia when I was a kid…my hills burned periodically (they were dry…like from a drought) or slid into the canyons and glens (they were too wet), and my street was often a raging river, as it had been pre-historically.
And that was NOT “climate change”. It was “climate norm”.
We are fortunate that the millions of illegal immigrants here in California do not use water. We don’t know exactly how they do it, but they actually add to California’s water supply. That is one reason we invite more in and provide them with more free services than water-guzzling American citizens. One needs to understand this to appreciate the decision not to build any new reservoirs.

It’s like Climategate never happened, and the ocean is actually rising. Oh, yeah, Antarctica is melting, too, (no mention of the volcano, leaving people to believe it’s all AGW). Meanwhile, there’s no mention of the increases in Arctic and Antarctic ice. There is a consensus, they keep saying, and the science remains settled, with no dissent, and the models are predictive.
So he’s only been getting part of the story.
And they all get in their cars and gridlock to work and gridlock back home. They fly hither and yon, drive to the Wine Country on weekends and sip Merlot, and soon will be using water like there’s no tomorrow again.

“Feedback loops” are linear. We can calculate their effects exactly; in control theory, this stuff is dead-on routine. (By “we” I don’t mean liberals and similar scientifically illiterate types.) Of course “control theory” is solid math, and the little cartoon lightbulbs over most people’s heads turn off as soon as “math” is mentioned.
The apocalyptic cult aspects of Warmunism continue to be too obvious to ignore. The “feedback loops” hooey is intended to defeat the only scientifically defensible course of action, which is to wait for better data; particularly has we know from the Climategate e-mails how seriously the current data has been corrupted and perverted.
Maybe, when El Nino hits, we can stop waiting for The Big One, and Kalifornia will wash into the ocean.

The world is not dying. The exact opposite is happening. The world is greening. In Jesse Ausubel’s fantastic presentation to the Long Now Foundation back in January, he estimated there has been 2 billion tons of new biomass added to the world recently. It’s happening all over the globe. From arid deserts (google “Sahara desert greening” or “Sahel desert greening” to read some of the research) to the Arctic to expanding forests. In Russia and Eastern Europe 80 million hectares of land that had been used for farming has been returned to the wild. This is providing new habitat for all kinds of critters. And they are thriving.
In the U.S., take a look at the wild animal populations near the top of the food chain. The bear population is exploding. Massachusetts has seen it’s bear population increase by 9x, from about 500 bears in the mid ’80s to 4500 bears today. Maine’s bear population has doubled from 20,000 to 30,000 in a little more than a decade.

The white tail deer population has increased from 300,000 in 1900 to 30,000,000 in 2000 (it’s been declining some since it peaked in 2000). That is more white tail deer than existed prior to European settlement.
The point I am making is that the only way these large wild animals near the top of the food chain can thrive is if they have a vibrant habitat to support the exploding growth in their populations. I repeat. The world – at least America – is greening and nature is thriving. It is not dying, as the doom and gloomers want you to believe.
As with nearly everything the left tries to sell, you have to be ignorant of the facts or be willing to ignore reality to accept it. His predictions of doom are meant to stoke fear leading up to the elites climate summit in Paris in December in which they plan to redistribute more American wealth and expand the power of the U.N. Expect more of this nonsensical propaganda to continue almost non-stop until then.

Where I live there are even wild cats (bobcats) along with bear being sighted in the heart of the city.
Bobcat cross breed with domestics, with “interesting” results.
A remote relative had a cat that was a bobcat cross. She had to warn the neighbors before taking the cat for a walk so they could bring their dogs in. (The cat used to lurk on top fences and kill dogs larger than it was. The largest dogs survived, but tended to be a bit paranoid.)

I thought we were well into the El Nino cycle, the precipitation pattern ought to already be established. Glad they are getting some rain, but when you get it in 4-inch deluges, most will just run off. It won’t make up for much drought time, either for drinking water or agriculture.
AGW is just the latest environmental scheme – beginning with the whole “green” movement itself – which has nothing to do with what is good for the environment and everything to do with what promotes more control, more centralized in the hands of the leftist Nomenklatura.

Do research and you will find that in the 70’s and 80’s these same people were screeching that by now we’d all be Frozen Popsicles because of Climate Change!

Funny that after stating clearly they can’t predict all these loopy climate regimes “we haven’t seen for tens of millions of years”, and that we can’t tell if we’re already over the edge, he then says “we’re not there yet, but we’re heading that direction”.
What direction is that? We’ve had ice ages more recently than tens of millions of years, a thousand feet of ice sitting on Chicago just 10,000 years ago. None of their solutions reduce CO2 output globally, but crushing our own economy has reduced our US “CO2 footprint” a little.
If we are really facing extinction if we hit 500ppm CO2 (currently almost 400), the answer is to bomb all China and India coal plants. One cruise missile for each one should do it, and we could call building the bombs a stimulus plan. But such hyperbolic talk of extinction just shows how desperate they are, and Californians should beware of governors passing out grape Kool-Aid with higher tax hemlock.
And feed-back loops often act as buffers, rather than somehow building toward constant catastrophes. But all the BS should have ended years ago when the fraudsters were exposed, as this “Hide the Decline” song parodied.

actually I guess it was 18,000 years ago for Chicago, and that ice age is said to have ended about 11,700 years ago … still rather “recent”. But the point is we should fight the ice, not the heat. And whatever happened tens of millions of years ago obviously happened without man causing it.
I hope we’re witnessing a Democratic extinction.

not two weeks before brown’s official drought announcement, the water utility in the san fran east bay was telling us that we WEREN’T USING ENOUGH WATER so they could not cover their expenses and, therefore, price increases were necessary. after the drought announcement, the utility’s spokespeople could barely conceal their orgasmic thrill. now, we were suddely USING TOO MUCH WATER and so, not only were they raising prices but they were raising them astronomically higher…and there would be huge FINES for using more than the water allotment…and, of course, more TAXES ! yippee !!!

The worst part – Gerry Brown has been advocating that people stop watering their lawns and let their lawns DIE. If you are truly worried about CO2 causing global warming, the LAST thing you want to do is kill off a substantial amount of green plants. What does he think plants, including the grasses that are grown in lawns, DO to atmospheric CO2?
