Boston Marathon Bomber’s True Colors Shown to Jurors
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s obvious lack of remorse.
As the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev entered the penalty phase yesterday, jurors were shown a photo of the Boston Marathon bomber giving the finger to a jail security camera after his arrest.

Jurors in the death penalty trial of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on Wednesday were shown video of him making an obscene gesture as well as holding his fingers in the shape of “V” to a surveillance camera in a courthouse holding cell three months after he was arrested in the terror attack.
A prosecutor had shown a picture of Tsarnaev making the obscene gesture to the jury in US District Court in Boston at the end of her opening statement in the penalty phase of the trial on Tuesday, underlining her argument that he was “unconcerned, unrepentant, and unchanged” after the attack.
On Wednesday, video of the incident, which happened on July 10, 2013, was shown to jurors at the request of Tsarnaev’s defense team.

Enraged parents whose sons lost limbs in the Boston Marathon blasts called the image of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev flipping the finger and puckering up a kiss while in custody three months after the bombings a “disgusting” insult to victims, survivors and America.
“He told us all to (expletive) off,” said Liz Norden, whose two sons, JP and Paul, each lost a right leg in the April 15, 2013, attacks. “It showed a lack of remorse, a lack of respect for the human race.”
Norden was in court yesterday when prosecutors punctuated their opening statement in Tsarnaev’s death sentencing trial with the picture from his July 10, 2013, arraignment day.
Jeff Bauman Sr., whose son lost both his legs to a pressure-cooker bomb Tsarnaev and his brother detonated in front of Marathon Sports, said the callous gesture was “disgusting” and may goad other terrorists to act.
“This kid is just appalling to me. He’s disrespectful to America,” the elder Bauman said. “It’s disturbing even to be shown. … He’s inciting more violence against America. At this point he should be begging us” not to be put to death.
It’s difficult to imagine someone more deserving of the death penalty.

{YAWN} He flipped off an anonymous security camera in a jail cell. I often stick my tongue out at the security camera, going into the bank. Execute him for his crimes, not for displaying childish assholey behavior.
Yes, thereby demonstrating a lack of remorse that MIGHT let him avoid the death penalty. It goes to his mental state, which is that he is *happy* he murdered and maimed, and would do it again.
Context is everything. This is about whether or not he was “misled,” as the defense claims, or knew full well what he was doing. His behavior after the event is quite relevant. He’s like a lot of criminals, including the one that got my brother–they suddenly “find Jesus” or Allah or whatever and suddenly realize what good people they are and they really deserve another chance.
Well, guess what. The dead don’t get another chance–neither should this POS.
If giving this puke the death penalty is determined by his flipping a security camera the bird – something is terrible wrong.
We should give him the death penalty because we value the lives he snuffed out and destroyed.

Okay, that’s it. Blowing up hundreds of people, maybe we can look past that, but then giving us the finger too? That’s over the top.
His mother is a real case, too. You wonder how they could possibly have been allowed into the country in the first place.
As to the death penalty, life in a Massachusetts prison would be torture for a pretty young man like Dzokhar. I think it is a good practice to execute Muslim terrorists, however, since the jihadis are likely to consider him a hostage whom they should bargain for.
No need to keep that oxygen thief alive. He and his family have been leeching off the taxpayers long enough. Good riddance.
Giving the finger from a jail cell? Big deal. Probably mad at the turnkeys for being refused a phone call or chewing gum or whatever.
What the jury needs to consider re: death or life is that if given life, he will spend almost all of it in solitary confinement, and eventually some other lifer(s) will kill him. That would give the killer(s) big-time points among inmates in the prison system, just like when they beat Jeffrey Dahmer to death. That being the case, it makes the sentence prctically irrelevant. Boy gonna die either way.

Not likely. If given life he will probably end up in ADX Florence where no one will be able to get at him.
Of course, he can then continue to give all of us the finger, metaphorically speaking, by filing baseless law suits against the Federal Bureau of Prisons claiming that a guard used foul language in his presence or that he was served burnt toast for breakfast or some such. We taxpayers, of course, will be funding his efforts.
I don’t care what facility they send him to, the inmates will get to him sooner or later and they will kill him. Such a kill is worth 50,000 street cred points in the twisted world of prison. Only a media-famous child serial killer offers more points than this mook (I’ve worked in prisons on/off for 30 years on contract basis, both state and federal).
If he does not receive the death penalty, he will undoubtedly end up on Bomber’s Row in ADX Florence. Not saying it is impossible that he would be murdered, but like I did say, highly unlikely.
Bomber’s row has a number of inmates more notorious than Tsarnaev and they haven’t lost one yet.
One night in the general population of the local equivalent of Rikers Island would be a good substitute for old sparky. However, given our current processes, his appeals will keep him sucking oxygen for years, not to mention millions of dollars courtesy of the fine citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
As I understand it, this is in federal court, under federal statutes. The federal path is shorter than states’ paths to the death penalty. About 5 years, as I understand it.
I knew MA doesn’t have the death penalty but wasn’t sure of the logistics. This guy exhausting appeals would make Tim McVeigh look like a mensch.
