Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico backtracked on his previous transgender comments during a six-minute interview with Fox News.
During a 2021 Texas State House Public Education Committee hearing, Talarico claimed there are six sexes. This is what went down during that hearing:
“The bill seems to think there are two,” Talarico said to Republican Rep. Cole Hefner, the bill’s sponsor.“The one thing I want us to all be aware of is that modern science obviously recognizes that there are many more than two biological sexes.”He added: “In fact, there are six, which honestly, Rep. Hefner, surprised me, too.”Talarico explained that there are “six really common biological sexes” based on X and Y chromosomes — not just XX (female) and XY (male), but also single X, XXY, XYY and XXXY.“The point is that biologically speaking, scientifically speaking, sex is a spectrum, and oftentimes can be very ambiguous,” he said, according to the news outlet.
Fox News correspondent Brooke Taylor asked Talarico if he still believed that:
No, I’ve missed the mark on some of my past statements. I will be the first to admit it. What I meant is that there are two sexes, and then there’s a small percentage of people with genetic abnormalities. Obviously, I didn’t say it correctly. There are not six sexes, there are two. And I think the reason that politicians in that convention center across the street want to talk about six sexes is because they don’t want to talk about $6 diesel. Everywhere I go across the State of Texas people are struggling to survive in this economy. They are struggling to afford the basics, groceries, gas, utilities, health care. And that’s what I’m going to be focused on from now until Election Day.
“Just to nail it down here, standing with me, you can confidently say there are two sexes: a man and a woman,” asked Taylor.
“Absolutely,” replied Talarico.
Talarico also said he would vote for national legislation on child mutilating surgeries.
The Senate hopeful explained he voted against a Texas law banning those surgeries because it “was overly broad.”
Talarico mentioned that he “voted for a major amendment to limit the bill to banning surgeries for minors.”
How about males in female sports?
“I oppose trans athletes playing in girls’ sports if it endangers safety or fairness,” Talarico answered. “Every sport has to be safe and fair.”
Weird. California Gov. Gavin Newsom says the same thing, yet has no problem with the state allowing males in female sports!
Obviously, border security is a huge issue in Texas. During the discussion, Talarico attempted to play both sides, calling himself a “border security Democrat.”
Here’s the whole exchange:
TAYLOR: I know you’ve since stated that what you meant by that is migrants who come into the country and don’t have a criminal background, want to pursue the American dream. They should be allowed here, but criminals should be locked away. What about the more than 10 million illegal migrants that came here under the Biden administration? What should happen to them?JAMES TALARICO, TEXAS DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE FOR U.S. SENATE: So this is what people hate about politics. You know, I’ve said that our southern border should be like our front porch. There should be a lock on the door. And there should be a welcome mat for people who want to come here the right way. And that’s what most Texans agree with. And that’s what most Fox viewers agree with.I think we’ve got to create as part of a comprehensive immigration reform package, which includes border security. I think we should include a pathway to citizenship for folks who have been here for years and decades. Folks who don’t pose a threat to public safety.TAYLOR: Is your position that anyone who is here illegally that doesn’t have a criminal record, they should be able to stay in the country.TALARICO: No, I believe that they should have a pathway to citizenship, which includes paying back taxes, learning English and passing a criminal background check. If they can meet all of those standards, I think they should be eligible for citizenship.TAYLOR: So with that being said, do you then wait, though, until someone, an illegal migrant is here, doesn’t have a criminal record and then hurts an American. You have a case like Jocelyn Nungaray. I know you know that story here in Texas, a 12 year old brutally killed two illegal migrants from Venezuela. And they didn’t have a known history. They were caught and released. And it wasn’t until they murdered this young, young girl.TALARICO: And it’s why we should know who’s coming into our country. It’s why I’m a border security Democrat. And let me say something a lot of Democrats won’t say.It is not racist to want to know who’s coming into your country. And I believe that. And it’s why we need to make sure that we know exactly who is coming into our country. We have a full orderly vetting process to ensure that we are keeping Americans and Texans safe.
