I’m shocked it didn’t happen in France.
Muslims rioted in London and the Netherlands after France eliminated Morocco from the World Cup, 2-0, in the quarterfinals.
The Netherlands has a large Moroccan population. Around 419,000 to 420,000 people of Moroccan descent reside in the country. That’s 2.4% of the population.
Muslims waved Moroccan and Palestinian flags in The Hague while shouting antisemitic and homophobic slurs.
Yes, they blamed the Jews.
“All Jews are gay!”
“Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas!”
The Times of Israel reported the rioters stood “outside a health clinic and an address at which there doesn’t seem to be a hotel or guesthouse.”
Riots also took place in Rotterdam, where people threw eggs at policemen. They set off fireworks at a policeman in Amsterdam while acting “aggressively toward journalists.”
Dutch Deputy Prime Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius condemned the rioters:
One by one, countries are eliminated. That’s what a soccer tournament entails. We gripe and get on with our lives.Except for these ‘fans’. Whether you win or lose, going berserk like lunatics. That you don’t feel ashamed that the world knows you like this…..
Yeah, well, these people didn’t act any better when Morocco eliminated the Netherlands:
Police in The Hague said “heavy fireworks were set off” in the Schilderswijk district, and that police officers were pelted with fireworks and stones. Riot squads charged the crowd and used a water cannon to break up the gathering.“A few individuals have been arrested for committing open violence,” police said.
London experienced similar scenes. The rioters there also attacked police, leaving one officer with injuries:
An officer was injured after being hit over the head with a glass bottle, police said.In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said officers were called to the street in north west London after a group of people congregated in the road and blocked traffic.A police spokesman said: “The incident then escalated with the group throwing bottles and setting off fireworks. As a result, further officers were deployed to the area.“One officer was taken to hospital for head injuries; it is believed he had been hit by a glass bottle. No other injuries were reported.“Officers remained in the area and made four arrests for violent disorder, with the group dispersing and the road re-opened from around 1am.”
Four men stood on a phone box to wave the Palestinian flag.
