Wake Forest University’s free tuition begins in the fallWake Forest University will implement their tuition-free program to in-state undergraduate students starting in fall 2026.According to the university, the North Carolina Gateway to Wake Forest University initiative is designed to expand access for high-achieving students, regardless of family income.“The North Carolina Gateway to Wake Forest University demonstrates our deep commitment to students from our home state,” President Susan R. Wente said. “It says clearly to students and families who may not have considered Wake Forest because of cost: ‘Wake Forest is within your reach’.”The initiative will offer the following:
- Admitted students from North Carolina with an annual family income of $100,000 or less will receive financial aid covering tuition and standard living expenses
- Admitted students from North Carolina with an annual family income between $100,000 and $200,000 will receive financial aid covering tuition
- Admitted students from North Carolina with an annual family income between $200,000 and $300,000 will receive financial aid covering 50% of tuition
Wake Forest said the initiative applies to North Carolina families with typical assets who apply for financial aid.“This initiative is also personal for me,” Wente said. “As a Pell grant recipient, private colleges in my home state felt entirely out of reach. I want talented North Carolinians from across the income spectrum to know they can come to Wake Forest and receive a transformational education.”
