DeSantis Reveals New Florida Congressional Map Giving GOP Four Extra Seats

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled a redrawn congressional map that would net the GOP four additional seats.

If approved, the state will use it in the 2026 midterms.

“Florida got shortchanged in the 2020 Census, and we’ve been fighting for fair representation ever since,” DeSantis told Fox News in an interview. “Our population has since grown dramatically, and we have moved from a Democrat majority to a 1.5 million Republican advantage. Drawing maps based on race, which is reflected in our current congressional districts, is unconstitutional and should be prohibited.”

The map still has 28 Congressional districts. The redrawn districts reflect population shifts.

Republicans hold 20 seats compared to seven Democratic seats. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick recently resigned, leaving an eighth Democratic seat vacant.

The new map shows Congressional districts 10, 23, 20, and 24 lean Democrat.

Florida lawmakers will return to Tallahassee for a redistricting special session.

Republicans hold the majority in Florida’s state legislature, which means it shouldn’t be a problem passing the map.
