Top Europe Nations, Japan Ready to ‘Contribute’ Efforts to Protect Strait of Hormuz

Top Europe Nations, Japan Ready to ‘Contribute’ Efforts to Protect Strait of Hormuz

OK, now give us specifics instead of a letter.

The top European Union nations and the United Kingdom tried to take a stance against President Donald Trump, refusing to help protect traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump fired back, pointing out that America always comes to NATO’s rescue, especially when it comes to money.

You know, reminding them that they’re all a bunch of cheap and weak jerks who take advantage of America.

I mean, they expect NATO to help Ukraine against Russia. Why not help us a little bit with Iran as we try to end the war the regime started in 1979?

(I will never ever leave out that fact in any of my posts. Iran started this war in 1979.)

*sigh* They’ll never learn that Trump won’t back down or shy away from calling them out. You know that Trump will cut off NATO.

The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands quickly changed their minds.

Those countries and Japan decided to help the U.S. protect the Strait of Hormuz, an important commercial route, especially for oil.

If you don’t want to cooperate or help a certain nation, then don’t sign onto certain agreements. From the joint statement:

Consistent with UNSC Resolution 2817, we emphasise that such interference with international shipping and the disruption of global energy supply chains constitute a threat to international peace and security. In this regard, we call for an immediate comprehensive moratorium on attacks on civilian infrastructure, including oil and gas installations.

We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait. We welcome the commitment of nations who are engaging in preparatory planning.

We welcome the International Energy Agency decision to authorise a coordinated release of strategic petroleum reserves. We will take other steps to stabilise energy markets, including working with certain producing nations to increase output.

The United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2817 on March 11, condemning Iran’s attacks on its neighbors.

The nations left out important details.

The nations are ready to “contribute to appropriate efforts.”

What will you contribute? What are those appropriate efforts? What are your plans?

I can see Japan and Italy stepping up. The others? France is, well, France. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is…I’m going to keep my mouth shut out of respect for my boss.

It’s no wonder we received a vague letter without any specifics.

On March 13, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Department of War planned to send more Marines and warships to help protect the Strait of Hormuz.

From what I can tell, officials have no plans to put the military on Iranian soil.

What should we do? Should our people help protect cargo that belongs to other nations? I wouldn’t mind only protecting our cargo. I’m tired of helping out these other nations all the time.

I say let them guide their own ships

We don’t need the damn oil

They do

Which is interesting as to why our oil prices are so high

Petroleum is priced globally although supply may be according to a country. Why, I don’t know but that’s the explanation.
    .

Oil such as West Texas Intermediate, Brent and the Opec Reference Basket are all priced on global exchanges. In the US, WTI futures are traded on NYMEX. In Europe Brent futures are handled on the ICE.
How oil became to be priced as it is is an interesting story and goes back to the 5 Sisters and the US being the only major oil producer on Earth

Because it’s a free market. If the total supply of some item drops, while demand remains the same, then the value of that item increases. It doesn’t matter whether it’s oil, coffee, or gold. If the people who used to buy oil from the gulf states can’t buy it any more, then they’ll try to buy the supply from other countries, and bid it up.

yeah but the way some drive cars……………

Here’s what they mean by contributions,
    — the UK, tea and crumpets
    — Germany, bratwurst and beer
    — Denmark, cheese and beer
    — Italy, gelato and pastries
    — France, wine and complaints

I believe Trump gave them an ultimatum. Either you help us defend your oil supply or we will tax every barrel that goes through the straight we protect at a rate you won’t like. The days of Europe riding Uncle Sugars coattails for free are over

    Obie1 in reply to diver64. | March 19, 2026 at 1:52 pm

You are probably right, and you spell “strait” the same way Trump does.

      diver64 in reply to Obie1. | March 19, 2026 at 4:25 pm

I spell straight biggly in the most perfect way, the best way, the greatest way ever spelled

UH, a narrow channel connecting two larger boxes of water is a STRAIT. Trump is correct.
I have been a fan of his since 2015. A key reason, he could not be bought. Well….. add to that
he is really smart, calculating, willing to take risks, has been aware of thee problems since
the 1980s. May he continue –

I’ll believe their actions and not their words.

But I bet this initial move was precipitated by a call from Trump saying ‘if you don’t help us patrol the straight, then no ships that are carrying goods bound for your country will be protected by the US.’ Which is totally fair.

destroycommunism | March 19, 2026 at 1:50 pm

just buy from america!!!!

start with that

thennnn

no more usa subsidies via laws passed by congress for 5 years

thennnnn

cut the price of sushi by no less than 35%

europe must deport no less than 75% of all non citizens who have lived in their countries for less than 10 years and the adults can decide if they want to take any and/or all children who have been born on euro soil

healthguyfsu in reply to destroycommunism. | March 19, 2026 at 2:01 pm

    1. We can’t buy America only oil. Not enough refining.

    2. Even if we buy only American oil, the price still goes up as the value goes up unless you force America not to export any oil (which puts us at a global economic disadvantage, by keeping our export earnings low).

    3. We can’t say what Europe does with its borders any more than they can say what we do with ours.

destroycommunism in reply to healthguyfsu. | March 19, 2026 at 2:17 pm

#3 Sure we can say..dictate to them

when you are on welfare the givers should have say

#2 its ok if price goes up as long as its free market it will also come down

#1 then more refining and they can buy american only is what I was saying

While America awaits a response she should go ahead and take full control of the Straits and force them to put up or shut up by controlling whom gets what.

That’s why the Marine Expeditionary Unit is headed to the Gulf. I expect some of them will be used to occupy Kharg Island (northern Gulf, 90% of Iran’s exported oil goes through there) and some will be used to protect key locations in the Strait. It may well take (a few) boots on the ground to keep the IRGC from launching missiles at ships in the Strait.

If we charge the ships enough for “escort service,” I really don’t care if Europe chooses to step up or not.

ztakddot in reply to henrybowman. | March 19, 2026 at 4:59 pm

My gut tells me there is no amount of money we can charge for an escort service especially if any of our ships is damaged, Frankly the recipients if goods passing the strait should protect them. Our ships are needed elsewhere (Hello Taiwan! and Artic),

I say the USA should end all Iran oil and gas production. Once that is done we should end NATO, end foreign money except for $1 to UN per year so we keep in the Security Council. The US Military should close all bases not needed and negotiate with specific countries for bases we need.
