Multiple outlets reported that the FBI opened an investigation into former National Counterterrorism Director Joe Kent, who resigned over President Donald Trump’s strikes on Iran, for allegedly leaking classified information.
I refuse to say “Trump’s war on Iran” because, as I’ve written in all of my posts, Iran started this war in 1979.
Sources told the outlets that the investigation began months before Kent resigned.
The FBI would not return any requests for comment.
When Kent resigned, those within the administration claimed that Kent leaked confidential information.
“He left quite an online paper trail and he has been monitored for months,” one person told Axios.
“He’s going to try to say this was in retaliation for his resignation, but it’s the other way around: He quit because he’s under investigation and he knew it,” the person added.
Kent supposedly leaked information to Israel and Iran.
That part shocked me because Kent blamed Israel for Trump’s involvement.
“Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” Kent insisted.
Why didn’t the Trump administration fire Kent?
Well, it would be easier to retrieve evidence against Kent while in close proximity.
Also, no one should be punished without clear-cut evidence and a finished investigation.
Axios reminded everyone that Kent caused a ruckus in October when he attempted to access files associated with the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
The New York Times reported that Kent’s interest alarmed FBI Director Kash Patel and other officials, who “believed Mr. Kent was overstepping, treading on F.B.I. responsibilities and potentially interfering with the investigation and the prosecution of the suspect, Tyler Robinson.”
Kent claimed a foreign agent had involvement in the assassination, justifying his inquiry.
