New Poll Confirms the Democrats’ Messaging on Voter ID Has Been a Spectacular Failure

“Democrat Senators are grotesquely out of touch with Americans. They’ve been so laser focused on advocating for foreign nationals (including criminal aliens) that they’ve become completely disconnected from reality.”

Starting around 2011, North Carolina became a case study on the lengths Democrats and their affiliated special interest groups would go to stop the passage of voter ID bills, ramping up their inflammatory rhetoric after a GOP-backed bill was signed into law by then-Gov. Pat McCrory (R) in 2013.

The state was also hit with lawsuits, but ultimately prevailed, even after the 2013 law was overturned by the 4th Circuit Court in 2016. In 2018, a constitutional amendment on voter ID was approved by voters. Although the less stringent bill that arose from it was also challenged in the courts, that challenge eventually failed. Voter ID is now the law in North Carolina – one of 36 states to have some form of it on the books.

What Democrats didn’t like to talk about at the time, just as they don’t now amid the debate over the SAVE America Act, is that voter ID was popular in North Carolina across the board. It remains so throughout the country, even after decades of media-assisted demagoguery and fearmongering.

As evidence, let’s first take a look at an analysis by CNN data guru Harry Enten from February of polling data over the years on voter ID. Here’s what he found:

“What’s the racial breakdown on this? Because I think a lot of people make the argument that people of color, non-white Americans have a harder time procuring a photo ID to vote,” Enten said. “But even here, take a look here, favor photo ID to vote: 85% of white people favor it, 82% of Latino, 76% of black Americans favor it.”

“So the bottom line is this: voter ID is not controversial in this country. A photo ID to vote is not controversial in this country,” he continued. “It is not controversial by party, and it is not controversial by race. The vast majority of Americans agree with Nicki Minaj that in fact you should have a photo ID to be able to vote.”

Here we are over a month later, and what do we see? A new poll from CBS News that once again confirms a vast majority of Americans approve of voter ID, including black and Hispanic voters:

Further, a key component of the SAVE America Act, requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote, is also backed by most Americans:

Upon seeing the latest polling information, Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) made the following observation:

Democrat Senators are grotesquely out of touch with Americans. They’ve been so laser focused on advocating for foreign nationals (including criminal aliens) that they’ve become completely disconnected from reality. It’s a pathetic state of affairs.

Pass the Save America Act.

“Only American citizens should be deciding U.S. elections, and AMERICANS agree,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) wrote on X about the CBS News poll.

This is yet another 80/20 issue on which Democrats have decided to be on the wrong side. I mean, even the voting blocs they claim they want to protect support it resoundingly.

The Democrat messaging on this issue over the years has been a spectacular failure, and if President Trump and congressional Republicans have their way about it, the Democrats’ campaign against the SAVE America Act will end up failing, too.

Comments

No surprise; it is so common sensical that even a majority of lockstep Dems get it.

Maybe if they didn’t publicly denigrate the intelligence of minorities and women, they could gain ground, but then they would have no argument.

Now about that illegal alien problem….

In the mid 20th century the denigration was direct: “we’ll have them n1663rs voting Democrat for 200 years!” evolved into the segregation of quota hiring and school admissions.

“He got the job because he’s black!” no matter how competent he is IN FACT.

“Voter ID is racist because not all of them have a picture ID.” Disregarding how they proved who they were to get all the benefits they absorb in prodigious amounts, or, the productive ones who had to fill out that I-9 to be employed.

I have learned that, for the most part, conservatives in general see me as me. As [my name] or my nickname, Bear.

The leftists see me as a “white male”. Nothing more, and nothing less. They see blacks as all needing their hands held.

“”In the mid 20th century the denigration was direct: “we’ll have them n1663rs voting Democrat for 200 years!” “”

Oh, they already have a response to that. They’re online attributing that quote to Trump.

Dear Brown People,

You are too stupid to get an ID. We will take care of you. Now get back on the plantation.

Sincerely,

The Dim Party

Unfortunately some states issue driver’s licenses to illegals so that is why proof of citizenship is required. Everything they touch is ruined!

And if you want to know why…
Pay attention especially to the comments at the end, which are more smoking-gun damning than the article.

Wa is notorious for being a place for illegals to get their DL.

I ended up unfollowing a life long friend on FB because she bought into the story that this would disenfranchise married women who have taken their husband’s name. She had up till now kept politics out of her feed. Of course I’m skeptical of anyone still living in Wa, so I should not have been surprised.

disenfranchise married women who have taken their husband’s name

This is such a stupid lie. Married women vote more Republican than single women. I would bet that married women who changed their name would vote R at a higher percentage than ones who don’t. Why would Rs want to stop those women from voting?

They want voter ID because the Democrats have convinced their moronic base that RUSSIA CHEATED.

Now they’re having to try to square the circle of, ‘Trump cheated but we can’t pass this because…. RAYCISM’

I think a true DemDumocrat politician would say that Harry Enten‘s poll data is skewed because the large number of blacks that can’t get IDs don’t have telephones or email accounts to respond to poll-takers. I’d be really surprised if some of those idiots haven’t raised that objectionalready.

The number of stupid Americans is overwhelming. There is no reason not to verify voter eligibility unless you want to cheat and steal elections, None whatsoever.

There are other ways to enact this that don’t require Congress. Given the overwhelming numbers, the States can call a Constitutional convention and amend it. Article V provides that Congress is required to call a convention if the legislatures of 2/3 of the states request it. Decisions become law if 3/4 of the states approve them.

From the looks of it, 2/3 is in the bag. 37 is one shy of 3/4, but once the ball is rolling, my bet is that we’d get closer to 4/5, if not more.

Why hasn’t this been done yet?

Martin in reply to coyote. | March 23, 2026 at 9:57 am

I don’t trust a constitutional convention as far as I could throw the building they would meet in. Our constitution is simple and direct only a few pages long. Nobody currently can be that succinct. They wouldn’t stop with one amendment. They would produce 50 pages minimum of garbage that shouldn’t be included.

amatuerwrangler in reply to coyote. | March 23, 2026 at 11:14 am

Because… as Martin said, once the convention is called, the entire document goes up for modification. And modification by people who may not actually be eligible to vote, or people sent there by people not eligible. Remember, also, the original convention, the one that gave us the current Constitution, was called to address some apparent flaws in the Articles pf Confederation… as it progressed the current document evolved, and the A of C were scrapped. There is no way to control those conventions, they can easily take on a life of their own….

destroycommunism | March 23, 2026 at 10:46 am

yet they keep winning elections??

Just another 80-20 issue the communist retards are on the wrong side of.
