Iran’s De Facto Leader Ali Larijani Eliminated in Israeli Strike

i24NEWS: Israeli Defense Minister “Katz confirms Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani eliminated in overnight strike.”

Iran’s de facto leader, Ali Larijani, has been eliminated in a strike, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said in press briefing on Tuesday morning.

The senior-most Iranian leader, who recently threatened to assassinate President Donald Trump, was hiding in a Tehran safe house when the Israeli fighter jets struck, Israeli media reports suggest.

The news of Larijani’s elimination was met with public celebrations in Tehran, clips posted on social media show.

Ahead of the announcement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office released a picture showing him “ordering the elimination of senior Iranian regime officials..”

Israeli Defense Minister “confirms Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani eliminated in overnight strike,” Israeli TV channel i24NEWS reported.

The broadcaster continued:

Ali Larijani served as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, a role he was appointed to in August 2025 by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

He also acted as the representative of former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to the council and has been described in Iranian media as an adviser to Khamenei.

With Iran’s new ‘Supreme Leader,’ Mojtaba Khamenei, failing to show up, Larijan was the one calling the shots in Tehran. For years, Larijani served as a senior aide to Khamenei and was widely regarded as his successor.

Mojtaba’s disappearance raises doubts about his whereabouts, with reports suggesting he was either severely wounded or killed in the Israeli airstrike that eliminated his father two weeks ago. Larijani’s killing creates the biggest leadership crisis in regime’s 47-year history.

The news comes exactly a week after Larijan, who also heads Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, boasted that he was not “afraid” of President Trump and threatened him with “elimination.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), in a press statement, revealed the details of the operation that killed top regime leader:

The IDF announces that yesterday, March 17, 2026, the Israeli Air Force, acting on IDF intelligence, and through the integration of unique operational capabilities, conducted a precise strike that eliminated Ali Larijani, the Secretary of Iranian Supreme National Security Council, who operated as the de facto leader of the Iranian terror regime. The strike was conducted while he was located near Tehran.

IRGC-Basij Forces chief, top brass killed in IDF strike

The Israeli Air Force also eliminated the chief and almost the entire top brass of Basij forces. The Islamic Guard’s Basij forces are charged with suppressing domestic opposition and have been responsible for massacreing tens of thousands of protesters to quell the ongoing uprising.

“The IDF confirms killing Basij paramilitary force commander Gholamreza Soleimani in a strike in Iran overnight,” The Times of Israel reported. “In addition, the strike also killed the deputy commander of the Basij and other top officials in the paramilitary force, the IDF says.”

Senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist eliminated in Tehran strike

In a major breakthrough against Palestinian terrorism, the IDF targeted, and likely eliminated, Akram al-Ajouri, the second-in-command of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organization in Tehran. The Iranian-backed Islamist group operates in Gaza and the West Bank.

The newspaper Israel Hayom reported:

An additional target was Akram al-Ajouri, a senior figure in the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the al-Quds Brigades. Al-Ajouri, a Gaza-born operative who had been living in Syria in recent years, was considered a key figure in coordinating between Iran, Hezbollah, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and was involved in rocket fire toward Gaza border communities. According to assessments, he was killed in a strike carried out on Wednesday in Tehran.

Yep. The philosophy of ‘next man up’ is in overdrive.

I was thinking its a lot like the scene in ‘Where Eagles Dare’,where Clint Eastwood keeps stacking Bodies each time the Germans attempt to rush the top of the stairs…

    Do not pass Go!
    Do not collect 72 virgins!

Virgins? Male or female? Young or old? Diseased or healthy? Species? How many legs, two, four, more?
      .

Some scholars of Islam (although probably no Islamic scholars) believe that “virgins” is a later misinterpretation of the Quran’s pre-Arabic Syriac-Aramaic, and what was actually promised was “72 white grapes” (or “white raisins”) which were considered a delicacy in Arabia. Google AI reports, “This interpretation suggests the text implies a lush, fruitful paradise rather than a sexual one.”

Paula in reply to DaveGinOly. | March 17, 2026 at 4:50 pm

Some alternate translations say “72 year old virgins”.

When it comes to Islam it’s always best to assume that the crudest and ugliest interpretation is the correct one. Muhammad was a bandit, slaver, and pedo. It’s unlikely any paradise promised by his religion would be any different.

    I’m very upset.

I just realized that Trump had missed a tremendous opportunity.

When Khameni was killed, he should have given a speech: “Ayatollah, you’re FIRED.”

    It’s called “drilling down.”

    God bless the IDF, seriously!

He’s definitely not afraid now.

And the hits just keep on coming. How many Iranian government officials remain? If the Israelis and our military don’t stop soon, we’ll be down to the housekeeping and maintenance people by next week.
.

Soon if we are lucky, many members of the Basij and others might defect to the opposition once an opposition figure emerges.

This is the new (and better) warfare. Kill the leaders instead of the troops and civilian population. The Europeans forbid this by treaty, of course.

DSHornet in reply to Oracle. | March 17, 2026 at 8:59 am

It’s understandable the Europeans don’t want a war after what they went through thanks to the Kaiser, Hitler, and Moussolini, but here we are doing the work for them while the Eurosnobs sit back and criticise.

It would really suck if the follow on Iranian regime adds a surcharge on oil to Europe

        greyfur in reply to Eagle1. | March 18, 2026 at 8:21 am

Actually, I was thinking that after we get the strait cleared, WWE should stop all the tankers going through to the UK and charge the UK a war tax, on account of them not helping us to clear the place. I think it’s only fair, since we have been finding the heck out of them, and they sat back and waited for us to do all the dirty work, which we paid for. Now, they want their oil, they can pay a fine for it for a while if they want it, or call it a duty. I really don’t care which, but since we freed it up for them, they should pay something. They wouldn’t send ships to help, they can send some cash to defray the cost of doing it for them. You had no balls, you can pony up some cash for a while.

boasted that he was not “afraid” of President Donald Trump and threatened him with “elimination.”
“They couldn’t hit an elephant at this distance.”
BANG!

This is great but the one problem I see is will there be anyone left to actually surrender and who can command the guard to surrender?

Paula in reply to ztakddot. | March 17, 2026 at 10:22 am

As long as the lights are on, there’s someone left who can surrender. Everyone knows that the last one to leave is supposed to turn off the lights.

greyfur in reply to ztakddot. | March 18, 2026 at 8:23 am

Arm the Persian people, they will deal with that and with a quickness is my guess.

Evil Otto in reply to ztakddot. | March 24, 2026 at 7:14 am

I’ve actually been thinking the same thing. I’m not sure, at this point, if there’s anything that could be called a “government” anymore. Just shreds, with some bearded thug in fatigues or robes claiming to be in charge before he eats a missile.

Who could even surrender if they decided to?

MoeHowardwasright | March 17, 2026 at 9:16 am

A credible opposition coalition needs to be put forward. Not by the US and Israel, but the coalition coming together for the Iranian people. It’s not about power, it’s about returning Iran to a country that doesn’t support terrorism, cuts off funding to their proxies, surrenders the uranium and nuclear engineering. Any revenge against the irgcc, the basji and the mullahs was earned by the aforementioned groups.

Again, we’re left without a “like” button… 🙂

He kills tens of thousands of his people, tries to kill our president, wages war on America via drugs and terrorism while trying to develop nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Contrary to Groypers I think this helps American interest. Who is looking at this and deciding they want some of it from America to?

And there are multiple levels of “calling the shots.”

TBTG. Let us pray.

“Larijani was considered one of the most veteran and senior figures within the Iranian regime leadership, and was a close associate”
.
and
.
“Secretary Supreme National Security Council, a role he was appointed to in August 2025”

In todays Iran it only takes 7 months to become the most veteran and senior figure within the government. 🙂

Whack-A-Muslim

POS Islamofascist/Muslim terrorist despot looks exactly like the leftist/Dhimmi-crat college and university professors in Europe and the U.S., who are supporting him and his evil, Hamashole ilk.

What’s ironic is all these idiots were having conniptions over The Handmaids Tale and its dire warnings of an American theocratic dictatorship while praising and defending… Iran’s theocratic dictatorship. You can’t make this stuff up.

He looks pretty Caucasian for the racist Donald Trump to kill.
