Hawaii Senator: Dems Are ‘Very Serene’ About Withholding DHS Funding Amid National Security Threats

“Multiple terror attacks, multiple bomb threats in airports, airports in chaos.. But Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz feels ‘serene’ about continuing to hold homeland security funding hostage to protest ICE.”

You know, Democrats are infamous for stepping in it over shutdowns, as we saw, for instance, when Democratic leaders opened their mouths and stuck their feet in it during the Schumer Shutdown in the fall of 2025.

Just a week into the shutdown, Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) infamously asserted that “every day gets better for us” even as TSA delays were piling up and federal workers weren’t getting paid:

We interviewed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday in his Capitol office, where the New York Democrat was as bullish as he’s ever been about his shutdown strategy.

“Every day gets better for us,” Schumer asserted.

“Democrats are gleeful about inflicting pain on the American people,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt noted in response.

Two weeks into the Schumer Shutdown, House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) made an even more damning admission:

“Shutdowns are terrible and, of course, there will be, you know, families that are going to suffer. We take that responsibility very seriously. But it is one of the few leverage items we have. It is an inflection point in this budget process where we have tried to get the Republicans to meet with us and prioritize the American people.”

There was also this:

Congressional Democrats are privately preparing to hold their position in the shutdown standoff for several more weeks if Republicans do not agree to their health care demands – and not even a missed paycheck for US troops will force them to yield.

[…]

Another senior Democratic aide said as long as public perception is in their favor, the party will not concede short of “planes falling out of the sky.”

Thankfully, no planes fell from the sky during the Schumer Shutdown.

But over three months later, and amid national security threats, the Iran strikes, TSA delays, and some federal workers going unpaid, Democrats are not only dug in on the partial shutdown that is hampering DHS’s ability to protect the homeland, but they’re actually “serene” about holding up the funding due to their supposed concerns about ICE, according to Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI):

It’s absolute insanity:

In light of the two attacks that happened on Thursday, with at least one possibly being ISIS-inspired and the other antisemitic, will Schatz amend his despicable comments about withholding funding for DHS at this critical time? It’s unlikely, because as we’ve talked about many times before, Democrats are willing to sacrifice just about anything – including the safety and security of American citizens – in order to protect criminal illegal immigrants here in the United States.

Why are they doing this? Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) perhaps said it best during an April 2024 hearing where then-President Joe Biden’s DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was in the hot seat:

“It’s a fact, and I know it: that the more people you allow into our country illegally, the more people are counted for reapportionment, and the more people that you allow into our country illegally, the more people are counted for allocating electoral votes,” he reiterated. “Now maybe that’s a coincidence, but that’s fact. You know that, and you’ve done nothing for four years: nada, zero, zilch.”

And if Democrats were still in charge, that would still be happening. As it stands now, they’re not, so they’ve resorted to the only “leverage” they have: making the American people suffer and be at greater risk of harm in an effort to protect criminal illegal immigrants from deportation.

Treat enemies of the republic as enemy combatants

Schatz is as stupid as Mazie and that’s saying something because Mazie is very stupid.

nothing new here with this anti american trait in their dna dems

thaat has been the goal from day one

big government over the people

How come we can’t find a “republican “ judge that demands this stop and all funds be paid?

Well, as long as they are Serene I guess we can’t be mad at them for being traitors, right?

Yes. They are content, and one with their betrayal of the Constitution.

“Gonna eat all the fruit, and throw away the rind. Yea, Brother.”

I think that during any shutdown of government Congress should not be paid. To hear them talk about some families suffering is sickening! Let them feel the pain as we do. They also need to be on their beloved obamacare like everyone else!

Khamenei: The Strait must be used for leverage.

Schumer: The shutdown must be used for leverage.

Any harm suffered by Americans as a result of Democrat actions should be reported by the media as Democrats facilitating that action e.g. Democrat enabled terrorism.

Of course the MSM won’t because they’re an arm of the Democrat party.

Democracy in America is dying!

Government has a job to protect you seems the left has no interest in doing that. Might remember that when you vote.

If the Democrats want to die on this hill, let them.

““[Democrats] are very serene with what is going on,” says Sen. Schatz.”

“Serene” is a not too hidden message that translates to “Democrats don’t give a flying fig about anything except regaining power and resuming their reign of terror (read it: lawfare, hoaxes and fauxpeachments.

Good luck with that, Demmies. Any security break is on YOU, both in lack of traveler scrutiny and the hoardes of sleeper cells they let into the country.

Schatz — put an -ie on the end of it and it’s a dog’s name, but I digress.
Schatz has a poor grasp of vocabulary and his party. Democrats are hateful, not serene, about this and every other issue for that matter.

I just flew back home from Atlanta this morning.

I have TSA precheck and the line was still very long. 45 minutes to an hour to get through security screening. I’m glad I have the habit of showing up early even with TSA. I usually spend an hour and a half getting some coffee and checking my email and such before boarding. Not today. Today I got to the gate about 5 minutes before boarding started.

Usually it’s 10 or 15 minutes max. The non-TSA “general” line was staggering. I’d say at least a couple of hours wait, but I wouldn’t scoff if someone told me it was as long as 4.

I think I’ll be sticking with land travel until this all gets sorted out.
