Cuba Confirms Regime has ‘Held Talks’ With Trump Admin

Cuban dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel has recently held talks with representatives from President Donald Trump’s administration, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla wrote on X.

Parrilla posted a readout from Díaz-Canel, which included:

These conversations have been aimed at seeking solutions, through dialogue, to bilateral differences that exist between the two nations. There are international factors that have facilitated these exchanges. The purpose of these discussions is, first of all, to identify bilateral issues that require solutions based on theie seriousness and impact, and, on the other hand, to find solutions to the problems that have been identified.Furthermore, the objective is to determine the willingness of both parties to undertake concrete actions for the benefit of the peoples of both countries. In addition, it is intended to identify areas of cooperation in order to address threats and ensure the security and peace of both nations, as well as in the region where we live and develop our lives, namely Latin America and the Caribbean.

“During the exchanges that have taken place, the Cuban side has expressed its willingness to carry out this process on the basis of equality and respect for the political systems of both States, as well as for the sovereignty and self-determination of our Government,” the readout concluded. “This has been stated taking into account a sense of reciprocity and adherence to international law.”

Don’t get your hopes up, though.

Díaz-Canel warned it’s a “sensitive process” that both sides conduct “with seriousness and responsibility.”

In other words, the negotiations will take time.

Also, do you think Cuba will ever relent, no matter how bad the conditions worsen on the island?

As long as those in charge can still live in luxury and have access to basic needs, I doubt anything will change.

Life has gone even more downhill since January, when the administration slapped an oil blockade on Cuba after the military captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Venezuela provided Cuba with the majority of its oil and has always been a key ally.

massive blackout hit Havana and western Cuba as the oil supply dried up and the electric grid continued to fail.

The regime blamed the blackout “on a broken boiler at a thermoelectric plant that forced the shutdown of Cuba’s power grid.”

Those thermoelectric plants have been working for over 30 years. They hardly receive any maintenance due to the high costs.

Of course, the Communists claimed the U.S. sanctions have hindered any work because the regime cannot buy “new equipment and specialized parts.”

Doctors have had to reschedule thousands of surgeries while communications, education services, and transportation have gone down.

Over 115 bakeries in Cuba now use firewood or coal.

The regime scurried to install 955 solar panels on homes and social centers. Officials hope even more “will come online before the end of March that will add 100 megawatts to Cuba’s crumbling electric grid.”

Díaz-Canel stated the obvious: “Even with everything we’re putting together, we still need oil.”
