Campus Reform reports:

Carnegie Mellon hosts anti-ICE panel with activist groupCarnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh hosted a March 12 panel on “ICE and Student Safety in Pittsburgh” featuring Democrat-affiliated speakers who criticized federal immigration enforcement under the Trump administration and encouraged student engagement on the issue.Included in the panel was a representative of the “Sunrise Movement,” an interest group that states it will “disrupt business as usual to force Donald Trump out of power,” and is “building the base of people across race and class who can feel the benefits of a Green New Deal in their communities.”On a web page promoted by the Sunrise Movement for the event, the group shared that the panel was offered primarily for high school and college students to “talk with your elected officials about your concerns regarding ICE.”Several politicians were in attendance at the event, including a county councilwoman and a campaign representative for sitting U.S. Congresswoman Summer Lee, as reported by The Tartan.Representative Lee has previously called to abolish ICE and impeach then-Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, as outlined on Rep. Lee’s government website.Lee has also previously been critical of immigration enforcement operations, having previously condemned the Trump administration, saying: “For a party of so-called law and order they are stampeding over people’s Constitutional rights and intentionally inciting more chaos, more fear, more anxiety, and increasing the likelihood that people are going to get hurt.”The Tartan also reported that the event was focused on ICE activity in Pittsburgh and international students in Pittsburgh, focusing on how Carnegie Mellon saw a 28 percent decrease in granted visas to international students. The event was also promoted and organized by the Carnegie Mellon Democrats.
