45 Years Since Reagan’s Assassination Attempt
Reagan’s behavior after the shooting was nothing short of extraordinary.
March 30, 2026, marks the 45th anniversary of the assassination attempt against President Ronald Reagan, following his speaking engagement at the Washington Hilton hotel.
Reagan’s behavior after the shooting was nothing short of extraordinary. He insisted on walking to the hospital from the limousine that had brought him rather than using a stretcher.
When Nancy Reagan arrived in the emergency department, the President joked: “Honey, I forgot to duck.”
I find it especially poignant that Joseph Giordano, the leader of the operating team, responded to Reagan when asked if there were any Democrats among the team: “Today, Mr. President, we are all Republicans.” Giordano was, in fact, a Democrat. Such solidarity is unlikely to happen today, after decades of anti-American brainwashing.
Without Reagan’s survival, communism would not have been defeated when it was in Eastern Europe, and America would not have experienced a revival of its confidence and prosperity. I find the 2024 film Reagan an excellent portrayal of his remarkable life.
In many ways, President Trump reminds me of President Reagan. Both exemplify unwavering patriotism, true leadership, and courage in life-threatening circumstances. Both of them inherited disastrous leftist policies, nihilism, and cultural decay, and both vowed to make America great again. Both earned the gratitude of nations and individuals by making the world freer, more peaceful, and secure. And both were spared for a reason.
Let’s hope we can preserve what they have created.

And 6 months later…
“Missed me!”
Outside of getting poor advise with amnesty, and not wiping Iran off the map after the murder of over 200 marines, he was a good President.
I fairly call the Gipper a great president, for his role in winning the Cold War, and for his moral clarity. Your critiques are valid, but, his wins were huge and vastly outweighed his misses, in import and consequences.
Like Trump, he would have been far more successful were it not from resistance by the left.
Of course, it was much less then…
Ok really. Good
What wasn’t revealed until much later was how close to death Reagan actually was after the shooting.
It was frightening enough without that little detail.
and his almost murderer walks free today
He should have been executed on the spot
A book worth reading and a documentary worth watching.

lefty spin to the classrooms:
ronald reagan sought to make himself a hero by hiring someone to shoot at him
I felt old(er) recently, when I referred to the hotel as the “Hinkley Hilton” and was met with a confused look. The woman I was speaking with is in her mid-30s, and from the DC area.
In law school @2010 the Criminal Prof asked us if we had heard of John Hinckley. After a period of silence I said “He’s the guy who shot Ronald Reagen to help Jodie Foster win the Wimbledon.”
Whom did Reagan try to assassinate?
