Wesleyan University President releases blog praising anti-ICE efforts during ‘war on Minnesota’
Wesleyan University President Michael S. Roth recently published a blog post in which he claimed the federal government is at “war” in Minnesota.
The blog post, uploaded to Wesleyan University’s website, is titled “Minneapolis is Now Ground Zero for Our Democracy.”
Within the article, Roth stated that “The federal government’s war on Minnesota has created a spectacle of cruelty, affecting almost everyone in major cities.”
Continuing in the article, Roth praised efforts to block federal agents from university and college campuses, stating that “Higher Education institutions in the Twin Cities are also taking steps to protect their students and employees from the Federal Agents.”
Roth added that a colleague of his “reported to me that whatever the horrors we are seeing on the news, the situation on the ground is worse.”
Roth went on to also claim that ICE officials are “executing people on the streets of Minneapolis,” that children and clergy are being detained, and that “those who are bearing witness or protesting against this brutality are putting themselves at great risk.”
Roth then quoted Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on ICE and federal operations in Minnesota, writing that “agents of our own government ‘are sowing chaos and violence.’”
Governor Tim Walz has also recently made statements about federal operations ongoing in his state, comparing ICE operations to the Holocaust and claiming that children are “hiding in their houses, afraid to go outside.”
Roth also made similar claims, noting that some schools in Minnesota have switched to offering classes online, and that “families are avoiding schools to keep their children safe.”
