UNC Professors Sign Anti-Israel BDS Pledge
“Twenty professors in the UNC system have signed the pledge”
This movement just keeps rearing its ugly head.
Campus Reform reports:
UNC professors endorse pro-Palestine BDS pledge
Professors at the University of North Carolina (UNC) have signed a pro-Palestine pledge that asserts it will propagate the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Twenty professors in the UNC system have signed the pledge, according to The Algemeiner.
The pledge frames Palestine as an “indigenous liberation movement” confronting what it repeatedly calls a “settler colonial state.” It additionally argues that Israel’s sovereignty has been built through “warfare, expulsion,” and discrimination.
Israel’s military power is portrayed by the pledge “brute force” that enforces “territorial theft” and “racial supremacy of Jewish-Zionist nationals,” while Palestinian resistance is described as a response to “eliminatory violence.”
The document also condemns academic neutrality, arguing that “research and writing are not enough” and that scholarship without action “normalizes the status quo and reinforces Israel’s impunity.”
As a result, the pledge demands politicized scholarship. It declares it “no longer acceptable” to study Palestine without “political commitment,” endorses Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions, prioritizes Palestinian voices and citation practices, and calls for pressuring institutions and governments to end complicity with Israeli military and academic institutions.
The BDS movement describes itself on its website as a “Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality” that opposes Israeli “occupation” and “settler-colonialism”
“Since its violent establishment in 1948 through the ethnic cleansing of more than half of the indigenous people of Palestine, Israel has set out to control as much land and uproot as many Palestinians as it can,” the movement contends. The website describes BDS as “anti-racist.”

I plan on signing any defund hirer education petitions I come across,
So these people are not academics or professors but political activists plain and simple. Just like an ICU nurse shouldn’t be kicking in tail lights on federal law enforcement’s vans and retaining their medical license and jobs, academics like this shouldn’t keep their jobs either. Have some decorum and capacity to be professional and not a political hack for goodness sake. Likely these “professor,” are bought and paid for by Qatar and China anyway, just check their professional affiliations and “grant” money. I doubt they have any “principled or moral stance” that don’t line their pocketbooks. They have shown they don’t know how to actually conduct scientific research or educate and are an embarressment to their field. If politics is what they love then do that professionally and stop pretending to be anything else.
In memory of Johnny Reid Edwards!
Is there a list? The UNC System is a lot more than just Chapel Hill and NC State.
