Maduro will face a judge today at 12 PM ET:
Maduro faces four charges: narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices.
“For over 25 years, leaders of Venezuela have abused their positions of public trust and corrupted once-legitimate institutions to import tons of cocaine into the United States,” federal prosecutors wrote in a superseding indictment unveiled over the weekend.
Flores faces three: cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices.
Similar proceedings are usually short. There won’t be any witness testimony, the defendants will have a chance to enter their pleas, and the judge will set the next court date and address the subject of pretrial release.

2026 has already started off with a bang.
Question for the legal eagles:
I get the “narco-terrorism conspiracy” and the “cocaine importation conspiracy” charges, but what about those “machine gun” charges?
Those seem a big stretchy to me. What am I missing?
I have no idea, and am very skeptical about it. How can having machine guns in a foreign country violate US law? Does the US consider that everyone who owns a machine gun, anywhere in the world, is a criminal whom it can arrest at will?!
I would really appreciate a legal breakdown on how this is likely to move forward through the courts. What is different or not when dealing with these unusual circumstances and what the state needs to prove and penalties for the crime would be.
Like could this lead to the death penalty? Is this likely to be televised, closed doors with reporters or classified? I can’t imagine the last one with the eyes of the world on it. But some context from people who know more would be appreciated.
I understand “arresting” Maduro pursuant to the indictment made the whole operation legit, but given our two-tiered legal system I’m not confident this is going to work out well. A Obama/Biden judge may just turn him loose with a “promise to appear” in 2032 or so.
will they pay off the guards on this one like they did eppys??
