CU Boulder professor calls U.S. a ‘fascist authoritarian regime’ in newsletterA University of Colorado Boulder professor ignited controversy this week after labeling the United States a “fascist authoritarian regime” in a campus newsletter.In the newsletter, which was released this month, Professor Jennifer Ho argued that the government’s operation to remove Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro reflects “competitive authoritarianism.”“I woke up on January 3 and learned that the US had taken control of Venezuela (insert stronger language as you wish),” Ho’s newsletter began.The professor then described the current administration as “fascist” because of its attempts to neutralize an alleged supporter of drug smuggling into the United States.“I am trying to do my due diligence as an educator and scholar to say the thing that I believe and have found evidence for among my academic colleagues and to say what too many are afraid to admit and acknowledge,” Ho wrote. “The US is a fascist authoritarian regime.”“I’m not sure what 2026 will bring or when we may see an end to fascist authoritarianism, but I hope there will be things to hope for in this new year,” the post concluded.
