CNN Panel Goes Off the Rails When Scott Jennings Asks Why MN Democrats Cater to Somalis

Earlier this week, things went haywire on CNN when Scott Jennings, the lone conservative voice on the network, asked why Democrats in Minnesota bend over backwards for the Somali community in the state. Jennings noted Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, who recently appeared on television dressed in a hijab.
Democrats: The evil, patriarchal Republicans want to force women into subservience like in The Handmaid’s Tale.

Host Abby Phillips and other panelists lost their minds, and basically began accusing Jennings of racism.

A CNN panel erupted on Monday night after a conservative commentator called out the Minnesota lieutenant governor for appearing to wear a hijab.
Minnesota Democratic Lt. Gov. and U.S. Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan appeared on a Somali TV station wearing what appears to be a hijab at a mall as a widespread fraud scandal implicating some Somali residents plagues the state…
“The catering to the Somali community that goes on by the Democrats in Minnesota is a little weird, is it not?” Scott Jennings asked. “They’ve got the lieutenant governor up there dressed like the Handmaid’s Tale.”
Jennings was referring to Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” a dystopian novel about life under a totalitarian theocracy in which a class of women is forced to bear children amid a fertility crisis. Liberal protesters often wear the modest outfit with its red robes and bonnet as a visual shorthand to warn that America is about become that same type of dystopia.
“Why do they cater to them?” Jennings asked. “It’s such a small portion of the population. Democrats put them at the center of everything.”
CNN host Abby Phillip balked at comparing the hijab to the handmaids’ outfits.
“I don’t think it would be acceptable for you to make a statement like that about Orthodox Jews in Brooklyn. Why on earth is it acceptable to make a statement like that about people —,” Phillip responded.

The point Jennings is making is absolutely valid. You can’t claim Trump is turning the United States into the Handmaid’s Tale and then voluntarily put on a hijab and expect to be taken seriously.

If she were appearing before an Orthodox Jewish audience in Brooklyn, she’d be advised to dress modestly, but she would look completely unremarkable. Modest dress is the same way you would show up in court, or for an important meeting. For women, it means wear a conservative dress that covers the collar bone, elbows, and knees. That’s all.
There would be nothing to take a picture of and make fun of. No hijab. Orthodox Jewish women cover their hair only if they’re married, and often with a wig that can be mistaken for their own hair, so a visiting politician would not be expected to cover her hair at all. Even the most conservative Kreindel would assume she’s either single or wearing a wig.
More to the point: Comparing muslim women wearing the Hijab to the “Handmaid’s Tale” is entirely appropriate because “The Handmaid’s Tale” was, according to its own author, written to describe muslim women being forced to wear the Hijab.
It was inspired by what happened in Iran after the revolution in 1979.

As on several other occasions, I first tried to submit a similar comment from my iPhone, which turned out to be impossible. I got a message saying the connection to the server had failed, etc.
I have not have had comparable experiences submitting comments from my laptop.
If Jake Tapper showed up in Brooklyn dressed as a Hasidic male, I’d assume he was either mocking them or pandering to them and in both cases, it would be gross.
I have been pointing this out since the beginning. It’s not only that the somali population is tiny (80K out of 5.6M) but that they’re generally uneducated, on welfare, unemployed, and totally useless so far as anything advanced in society. The idea that such a tiny, backward group could be king makers for the democrats points to the rotten core at the center of this whole crime – the somalis are the bag men for the democrats in the coordinated looting of Minnesota and federal funds. Further, evidence points to the idea that the somalis are instrumental in running massive election-cheating operations for the democrats.
With all this, the dems have become subservient to the somalis because the somalis have so much dirt on the dems.

Hijabs are far worse than anything out of The Handmaid’s Tale. And hijabs are reality whereas The Handmaid’s Tale is nothing but pure fiction.

Here we have the lions share of South American, Caribbean and Cuban diaspora. The majority of which immediately start working menial jobs and work their way up to owning a business. They start learning English quickly. Not always an easy proposition, but passable. Their kids go right to school and are good students for the most part. (Always outliers for the above observations) The only issue is with the Haitian community. They tend to migrate to government housing. Take forever, if at all, to break the cycle of dependency. You would have to experience to believe it. Saw all this happen when I lived in West Palm Beach during the 80’s and 90’s. It’s not racist to see it play out over 2 generations. It’s just a fact. Once again there are success stories similar to the Latin, Hispanic Americans. But it’s a way smaller percentage.

Because Orthodox Jews aren’t demanding that everyone comply with their mores or else.
And, Milhouse, Orthodox Jews wouldn’t expect anything by way of dress from a gentile. They’d watch or not, as it pleased them.
But I suspect they’d dislike having someone dress up like them as a costume to pander.
I live in an area with lots of Mennonites and Amish., my next door neighbors with a dozen children being Mennonites. They dress modestly, and don’t demand it of others. Clothing is a group identifier- for those that want to be identified. Whether Goth, hippie, Hare Krishna, or the previously mentioned groups. Among all the groups in the world that have identifiable dress, AFAIK, only muslims demand others dress like them and commit violence against those that don’t, particularly women. The Amish don’t actually become Amish until they’re adults and they have to choose. If they choose not to be Amish, they’re still welcome back for family and community gettogethers like weddings and holidays. If they choose to become Amish and later leave- they’re shunned, and not welcomed back. It’s not a death penalty as it is in shraialand.
I was talking to an Amish farmer at a local farmer’s market one afternoon a few years back. A rather flamboyant gay couple was out shopping. I forget which one of us made the first wisecrack, but we shared a few good laughs ay their expense. And when they made their way to his stand, he happily took their money. They’re basically just like everyone else in America, with just a few peculiarities.
