Washington Post Sympathizes With Male Athlete Who Competes in Female Sports

Give me a break. I will never sympathize or show empathy for males in female sports.

Disgusting. I hope my piece makes sense because it’s hard to write with so much anger.

Casey Parks at The Washington Post published a piece about Donovan Brown, who goes by Verónica García, highlighting the hardships he’s faced in competing in women’s sports.

Parks attempted to invoke empathy for Garcia by weaving in her family life, which isn’t good. Her family is poor and ended up evicted from their apartment.

Family life has nothing to do with Garcia’s involvement in female sports. But whatever.

This line raised my blood pressure: “For the last 10 months, some of the country’s most powerful people had talked about girls such as Verónica as if they were a threat to all women.”

I seriously want to puke:

She nudged her school-issued laptop awake and searched: “Washington State transgender athlete.” A TV station was reporting that a school district two hours south had filed an “urgent complaint,” asking President Donald Trump to keep Verónica off the track.

“This male unfairly competed last year,” the complaint said. “Not only does his current inclusion in the 2025 season directly violate Title IX and President Trump’s Executive Orders, but it is also ‘demeaning, unfair, and dangerous’ to the young women with whom he competes.”

Verónica shifted on the thin pad where she slept and considered her frame. Dangerous? She was 5-foot-7 and skinny in a way that concerned her coaches.

“I’m a twig,” Verónica told her mother, Traci Brown. “Who could I hurt?”

In 2024, Garcia won the Washington girls’ state track title in the 400m dash.

He won with a time of 55.59 seconds.

The second-place winner? 58.83 seconds.

His heart broke because no one clapped for him. Spectators shouted the truth at him: That’s a male standing on the first place podium.

Parks pointed out the criticism Garcia faced online, especially from Riley Gaines.

Garcia and Lauren Matthew faced each other again in 2025.

Guess what. Garcia beat Matthew again.

We talk about the physical differences between males and females. Well, Garcia still beat females as a short and skinny male.

Before the track season in 2024, Garcia started hormone replacement therapy to suppress testosterone and boost estrogen.

Wait a second. Garcia comes from a poor family that couldn’t pay rent but could shell out money for hormone drugs?

(Another thing…us females who are going through perimenopause need those hormones. We actually need hormone replacement therapy.)

Yeah, proving once again, it’s not about hormones at all. You’re still a male. You’re still physically stronger than females.

It’s more than hormones, people.

So yes, while track is not a physical sport like football, people like Garcia are a threat to females and hurt them.

You’re taking victories and opportunities away from females.

WaPo tried to back Garcia’s case with studies, but it didn’t help, and used the derogatory term “cis” to describe males and females (emphasis mine):

A 2020 study of 46 trans women who began taking testosterone-blockers and estrogen while in the Air Force found that after two years on hormones, the trans women could no longer do as many push-ups or sit-ups as men. They could do only as many as cis women. They also ran slower than they had before they transitioned, but they still ran 12 percent faster than cis women.

And last year, the International Olympic Committee released a groundbreaking study that showed trans female athletes who suppress their testosterone and take estrogen retain a few advantages over cisgender women, but their bodies also change in ways that leave them unable to perform as well as their competitors. The study, which tested 75 cis and trans athletes, found that trans women did have better grip strength than cis women. But they also couldn’t jump as high or breathe as easily as cis men or women — key skills for track-and-field athletes.

You still have physical advantages over men.

That last sentence boggled my mind since it includes males and females. Maybe stop taking medicines that suppress your biology!? You can’t even breathe as easily as those who don’t touch their biology!?

“Verónica longed to ask Lauren what she thought a real girl was,” wrote Parks. “Biology suggests it’s far more complicated than chromosomes, Verónica knew, but she suspected she would never change anyone’s mind about that.”

Oh, really? Maybe in those very cases where a person is born with a sex chromosome disorder.

But for the vast majority? XX chromosomes make you a female.

Long hair, makeup, a skirt, higher estrogen, and your feels do not make you a female. I cannot recall the person, but I believe an Olympic female runner has naturally higher testosterone for a female.

I loved this comment a person left:

Sorry, actually I’m not sorry. I’m very liberal on most issues BUT:
1- I coached girls travel basketball
2-I played multiple sports against my fellow male athletes and have run many races including a Marathon

There is no way that someone with male genetics and musculature should be competing against females.

PERIOD TOTALLY NOT A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD

boys will be boys..or um ..hmmmmm

Dude even switched to a Hispanic last name to REALLY play on the left.

I’m so old I remember when women’s sports were so important they shut down men’s sports over them. Now… Women? What’s a woman?

Right there with you. It is mind boggling to understand how so many AWFL have yielded just about everything they and their forebears fought for in the 70s and 80s through the women’s liberation movement.

Another situation where inclusivity breeds mediocrity (or idiocy) and aligning with fundamentally incompatible worldviews will end up destroying both. Same thing with gays for Palestine and whatever. Way to support a people who’s religions requires them to kill you.

“She was 5-foot-7 and skinny in a way that concerned her coaches.

“I’m a twig,” Verónica told her mother, Traci Brown. “Who could I hurt?””

As a high school senior I wrestled (first time I competed in sports) in the 102 lbs category. I did not struggle to make weight. Never occurred to any guy to compete in girls’ sports. This was the 1980s. It would have been humiliating to do so. We would all mock you for doing so.

Peer pressure can be a good thing.

    so true

and when training the females for their matches ( with other fems) the females wanted us to go harder ( hmmmmmmm…well nothing changes) but the coaches frowned at that

times have changed and now lefty is fully in charge

    Dimsdale in reply to rbj1. | December 31, 2025 at 9:28 am

Peer pressure is really peer review. Culling the mental illness before it spreads, Too bad our public schools never considered this….

“WaPo published a piece about Donovan Brown highlighting the hardships he’s faced in competing in women’s sports.”

Poor baby! We should start a Gofundme for him to buy blankies, tissues and teddy bears.

destroycommunism | December 30, 2025 at 12:27 pm

all male firehouses etc do not need women

but you couldnt have a successful all female fire fighting corps

lefty knows this which is why they are once again taunting the patriarchy and actually winning

djt cant stop this and the ones who can..the parents..the locals have them living in fear to try and do so

so we count on the gop and the msm to some extent to stop the madness

the usa is being overrun by criminal minds

And no one even asked if he sucked at being a male athlete when he was not trans-ing? Did he go from 279th to 1st?

It sounds like his poverty caused malnutrition, which affected his brain, making him think he was a girl. (Or he figured he could game the system and become top of a much lower heap, and get something out of it.)

Any male who competes in a female sport is a cheating POS.
Any coach who fields a male in a female sport is a cheating POS.

MAJack in reply to JohnC. | December 30, 2025 at 1:26 pm

    Succinct and on target!

It is not “cheating” if the people are within the rules.

The rules and the people who propagate them are POS’s. It is they who must be attacked and driven back.

Dimsdale in reply to JohnC. | December 31, 2025 at 9:24 am

Don’t diss the “cis!!” “Cis” equals REAL in any gender dysphoric argument.

This is cheating, plain and simple, for the same reasons you don’t put lightweight fighters in with heavyweight fighters.

Wokeism is tearing this country apart, with the enabling by the anti-American Democrat socialists.

All this just proves that the Feminists only care about Abortion. Males destroying women’s sports? That is fine, since we need the trannies in our political coalition to keep the Christian Right out of power.

If his doctor had referred him to a competent mental health person instead of suggesting he was trans, this might have gone differently.

In my day we would have beaten the crap out of him at school, and when he went home afterwards his father would have beaten the crap out of him too. Finally, if he went crying to his mother, she would have slapped him senseless.

Better days

Nobody heard of female sports before the males in female sports meme. Then it became a victimization orgy. Once again by males.

In my day there was field hockey that the girls played while the boys did boy sports, and that was it.

“A 2020 study of 46 trans women who began taking testosterone-blockers and estrogen while in the Air Force found that after two years on hormones, the trans women could no longer do as many push-ups or sit-ups as men. They could do only as many as cis women.”

In the Air Force you don’t do more pushups and sit ups than you have to. They were doing the amount needed because they were being held to female standards.

“I’m a twig,” Verónica told her mother, Traci Brown. “Who could I hurt?”

Come on, boy. You can literally murder people with just your speech.
I’m surprised you didn’t know that. It comes with the woke kit,.

MIsogynistic, malignanty narcissistic trannies; genocidal, Jew-hating and Christian-hating Islamofascists/Muslim supremacists; neo-communist “Democratic Socialists;” illegal alien invaders/criminals; domestic criminals — these are the sundry groups whom the vile, stupid and evil Dhimmi-crat apparatchiks will go to bat for, vociferously and tenaciously.

Law-abiding, tax-paying American citizens? The Dhimmi-crats couldn’t care less about them.

WaPo tried to back Garcia’s case with studies, but it didn’t help, and used the derogatory term “cis” to describe males and females (emphasis mine):

“Cis” is not derogatory. It’s simply the opposite of “trans”.

In normal English “trans” and “cis” are both prefixes, not words on their own; in Woke English they are used on their own as short forms of “transgender” and “cisgender” respectively.

The Livewire in reply to Milhouse. | December 31, 2025 at 8:47 am

Yes it is. Several people feel it is, that makes it a slur.

Them’s the rules. Else “Tranny” isn’t a slur either, it’s short for “Transmission.”

Milhouse in reply to The Livewire. | December 31, 2025 at 7:52 pm

      What people feel is irrelevant.

“Tranny” is not a slur when it refers to a car part; it is when it refers to a person.

“Cis” is no more a slur than “trans” is. They are both standard prefixes in ordinary English. You cannot have “trans-” anything without also having “cis-” that thing.

I do have sympathy for this young man, who for all we know is not trying to perve on the girls, or to take advantage of his male physique, but simply to be recognized as what he thinks he is. I wish there were some reasonable way to accommodate him without harming the girls. But there isn’t. Life doesn’t work like that. So I feel sorry for him, but he can’t have what he wants.

isfoss in reply to Milhouse. | December 31, 2025 at 9:00 am

Seriously??? He just wants the rest of us to legitimize his fantasy of being a female? Then how about we all demand that people validate our fantasies of who we are/want to be. Oh the world would be such a better place…we could all feel sorry for each other. LOL

Milhouse in reply to isfoss. | December 31, 2025 at 7:55 pm

Yes, the world would be a better place if we could reshape it as we would like it to be. The world would be a better place if we could actually change someone’s sex, and change it back when and if they change their mind. I wish this boy could have that, and then no one would begrudge him a place in girls’ sports. And maybe one day medical science will be able to do that. But right now it can’t.

I want to puke as well.

Insufficiently Sensitive | December 31, 2025 at 1:11 pm

No doubt the glorious WaPo also sympathizes with randy males ‘having their way’ with unwilling females. Not much difference.

This “study”, while interesting, does not seem to be well structured. The study is comparing specific people with averages of a large population – some people are naturally below and some are above. To be credible, this study should compare the performance before and after taking hormones. It could be that most of the males’ performance in this study is naturally below that of the average males’ performance.

This whole issue is ridiculous. It is astonishing to me that ostensibly rational, sober adults are even arguing about it. Males should be competing against males and females against females. This criteria is objectively verifiable. Any other criteria for differentiated sports is subjective.

Dear Mary Chastain,
You wrote a fine article, despite your anger. And I genuinely thank you for referring to this person as “he” and “him” (although you may have referred to him as a female in the third paragraph). I want here to emphasize the importance of language in this context. (It’s always important, but especially today, when the Left is seeking to take control of our country, often by confusing issues through perversion of our language.) Why do people who are not seeking to force everyone to accept the female status of men wishing to be women nevertheless refer to those men as women? Doing so accepts the Left’s argument that these men are actually women. Every member of the media today, including print, online, and video, both liberal and conservative (with the exception of YOU), seems to term a man who wishes to be a woman a “. trans woman”. Calling someone a “woman” suggests the person is a woman, doesn’t it? (Maybe I’m crazy.). Wouldn’t it be more accurate to call this man a “trans man”? I know doing so today would cause confusion. So what I’m suggesting now, Mary, is that we henceforth refer to such a person as a “man seeking to be a woman”. Where such terminology doesn’t fit easily due to space or the flow of the report or argument, and after establishing the fact that the person is a male seeking to be a female, we should (as you generally do in this piece) refer to him using male pronouns.
Keep up the good work!

Why do they have separate contests for male and female athletes? If you look at the records men are significantly better athletes than women. If men decide they want compete against women then what makes it fair for them to compete against women? What is it that makes a trans woman so they can fairly compete against real women.
