NY Times: Congressional Trading Record Leaves ‘Asterisk’ on Nancy Pelosi’s Legacy

“The Times reported further that anonymous sources close to Pelosi agreed that her history of benefiting from stock trades while serving was a blemish on her otherwise historic legacy.”

Is there something in the water at major American newspapers this week? First, the Washington Post went after Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and now the New York Times is raising questions about the legacy of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The Times is saying that Pelosi’s record will have an ‘asterisk’ on it because of her record in Congress and stock trades. It has long been speculated that Pelosi used inside information to game the system for profit. She is certainly leaving her ‘public service’ job as an incredibly wealthy woman.

FOX News reports:

Pelosi perceived as ‘on the wrong side’ over congressional stock trading as career nears end: NY Times

The New York Times called out former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in a Monday piece, arguing she’s ending her career with an “asterisk” due to her stance on congressional stock trading.

While Pelosi, who’s retiring in 2027 after 40 years in Congress, will leave office as the most powerful woman in American political history, “the widespread perception that she was on the wrong side of the debate over congressional stock trading, and personally benefited from the practice, has put an asterisk on that legacy,” the Times reported.

Pelosi does not personally own or trade stocks, but her husband, venture capitalist, Paul Pelosi, actively does. They have grown exponentially wealthier amid her time in office, a correlation that has raised eyebrows on both sides of politics. Critics argue that they have benefited from essentially having insider knowledge through her time as an influential politician.

As bipartisan fervor has grown to prevent congressional stock trading, Pelosi “failed to appreciate the groundswell of support for banning the practice, refusing to give an inch amid GOP accusations that she was corrupt,” the Times reported…

The Times reported further that anonymous sources close to Pelosi agreed that her history of benefiting from stock trades while serving was a blemish on her otherwise historic legacy.

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) appeared on Watters’ World last night and commented on this. He knocked the media for suddenly noticing this and recalled how Pelosi stood in the way of stock related reforms he tried to implement. Watch:

What will be the next media shoe to drop on Democrats? Given the pattern this week, I’m genuinely intrigued.

Asterisks are so boomer and way too low-bandwidth.
We have emojis now.

We also have jail cells, and that’s where she belongs.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. This bitch should be in jail. Disagree? Ask Martha Stewert all about it.

I’ve often found that the husbands of these female congresswomen and Senators always see to make out like bandits. Some get business thrown their way with China or elsewhere because of their wife. Others benefit from contracting with the government for things like Section 8 housing. And of course there is all the insider stock trading. Mostly democrats I should add although I wouldn’t be surprised if it is also Republicans. It is all ridiculous. It is corruption pure and simple. It should all be forbidden along with lifetime bands in lobbying strictly enforced with steep penalties for conviction. They should receive 0 pension from the government and no benefits after they are out of congress. Don’t like the terms then don’t run!

I take the default position that every member of the houses of congress are crooked. Insider trading, leaving office with wealth the peasants can but dream about…

The timing of NYT’s asterisk comes considerably after the horses have left the barn. I suppose it reflects their shared level of balance and integrity.

Requiring Congress to use blind trusts is the answer to part of the problem. The other problem, sinecure granted to family, is tougher to solve in a straightforward manner. At minimum we should insist on no job, board seats, consulting fees, speaking fees to the former Member/Senator from any entity/individual with any ‘business’ before a committee they sat on. Unfortunately we are past the point where a modicum of self restraint and reluctance would curtail the worst excesses of our politicians.

The country should provide a dorm for congressman and senators and insist they live there. The rooms can be nice and family oriented and they can receive protection. This will reenforce the temporary nature of their jobs and the fact they are only temporary residents of the area.

Let’s go further. Put them in some gas leak plain office building with steel desks and linoleum floors. And this is regardless of seniority.

Enough of the pump and pageantry.

I’m all.for that. They can’t be compelled to live there but if they didn’t they’d need a good explanation for voters and ‘I got a spouse/kids’ is probably not gonna cut it considering most voters presume the Member/Senator maintains a house back home.

ohhhh nooo omg

a blemish on her record

iff that was all she did wrong she’d be a hero

but she is a stone cold bold faced lying crack

she told people not to worry about paying for their healthcare and went along with the blmplo takeover of america……… and on and on her treachery goes

Screw the asterisk. Her insider trading moved the $ several places to the left and that’s all she cared about.

Oh please!

Insider trading was the least worst thing she did.
