Israel to Build Independent Arms Industry, Fearing Future U.S. Embargo

Israel to Build Independent Arms Industry, Fearing Future U.S. Embargo

Prime Minister Netanyahu: Israel to “reduce our dependence on all players, including friends.”

Israel is embarking on a multi-billion-dollar plan to build an independent defense industry to counter potential weapons embargoes from the U.S. or European allies. “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday Israel would spend 350 billion shekels ($110 billion) on developing an independent arms industry to reduce dependency on other countries,” Reuters reported.

In May 2024, while Israel was engaged in an existential war with the terrorist group Hamas, then-President Joe Biden threatened to impose a weapons embargo. Besides the U.S., Israel’s largest defense supplier, Germany, and Britain also stopped or restricted weapons exports in the midst of the Gaza war.

While Israel, with its extensive and longstanding military ties with the U.S., may not achieve total self-sufficiency in the area, the country seeks reduce its reliance on foreign arms suppliers, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted.

“Our goal is to build an independent arms industry for the State of Israel and reduce the dependency on any party, including allies,” Netanyahu said at an Air Force event.

“We will continue to acquire essential supplies while independently arming ourselves,” he added. “I don’t know if a country can be completely independent but we will strive … to ensure our arms are produced as much as possible in Israel.”

The Times of Israel reported details of the plan:

Israel is working to gain as much independence as possible in its weapons production, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday, in a development he said was the result of the lessons learned during the past two years of war on multiple fronts.

“I approved, along with the defense minister and finance minister, a sum of NIS 350 billion [$108 billion] over the next decade to build an independent Israeli munitions industry,” Netanyahu said in an address at a graduation ceremony for Israeli Air Force pilots.

The move, he said, stemmed from a desire to “reduce our dependence on all players, including friends,” after allies including the US, UK, and Germany all imposed various restrictions on weapons sales to Israel since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack.

Still, he noted, many countries around the world, including Germany, “want to buy from us more and more systems.”

The premier has long been calling for Israel to develop its own self-reliant military industry, and in January 2024 announced that the government would invest in a “multi-year plan to free Israel from dependence on external purchases.”

In recent months, Prime Minister Netanyahu has been calling for self-reliance in defense production. On September 16, he said that Israel wants to “build an arms industry capable of withstanding “any kind of international political constraints.”

Beating all odds, Israel’s defense industry grows at record rate

Despite threats of embargo and trade bans, the Israeli defense industry has grown at a record pace. As European countries seek to close the air defense gap amid a growing Russian threat, they look to Israeli manufacturers.

“Israel’s defense export figures for 2025 will not be published until mid-2026, but defense sources estimate that volumes will be at least similar to those of 2024, when Israeli arms companies set an all-time record with exports of approximately $14.8 billion,” Israeli technology newswebsite CTech reported Sunday. “The latest major defense deal was signed last Thursday, worth $3.1 billion, under which Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) will supply the German Air Force with Arrow 3 missile systems.”

Armed Forces across the world also seek cooperation with the Israeli military, which just fought a multi-front war, ranging from close-quarter urban warfare to long-range aerial operations.

In November, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) hosted top military officials from the U.S. and other allied nations to brief them on combat capabilities developed and honed in recent years. The IDF said in a statement that “more than 100 senior military representatives from 19 countries” came to learn about “most significant capabilities and tactics the army has developed over the past two years across various combat arenas.”

Great idea. The Prez “Brainless” Biden regime certainly proved Israel can’t rely on the US (at least whenever filthy Democrats are in control).

With your of going under the Muslim boot, and with the Democrats, don’t be nothing more than Muslim controlled communist I believe this is a wise move.

Israel knows that one day a Democrat will seize the White House again.

Apparently, Netanyahu has been listening to J.D. Vance.

they have the means and needs to do so

do it

the j hatred is reaching fevered pitch as the politicians only fear the blmplo violence and so they support the j hate

Good! No nation is independent if it has to rely on others for its warfighting capability.

I think this is a good move but my only fear is that Dems will use it to withdraw support.

Great idea. This initiative probably should have commenced, decades ago, but, better late than never.

Sadly, current political realities and the continued, stubborn pervasiveness of Jew-hate and Israel-hate, on the neo-communist/Islamofascist left, and, among a small but vocal and influential minority, on the right, mean that Israel cannot depend upon anyone, for her survival.

Well they already build much of what they need. It’s not a stretch for them to build everything but planes and ships. They used to build fighters but stopped because their sourcing of engines from the US made it difficult for them to sell because of export laws. Building a top of the line engine is very hard. Just ask China. Their ships they get from Germany. I suppose they could develop their own ship building industry.

The one issue I see from this is that they are going to have to import critical metals from somewhere. That will become a potential chokepoint
from them since they can be embargoed as well.

Should the Marxists take over, and have no worse than 50% it would be best for Israel to supply themselves

Very wise. Especially for munitions of all types which are, on balance, easier to both produce domestically and more vulnerable to a ‘supply shock/interruption’ by another Nation. Far easier politically for a d/prog US Admin to cut off munitions to Israel in a short term but critical period than to refuse long-term sales of big ticket platforms; tanks, artillery, helicopters, jets.

They build their own tanks. Good point on munitions such as bombs, Iron Dome missiles, tank munitions, artillery shells. They should be able to build all of those.

Sorta true to mostly true re building tanks. The Merkava has a bunch of pretty important components that aren’t exclusively Israeli. Examples are the engine and transmission which is a licenced copy German designs both produced by L3 Combat Propulsion Systems (formerly General Dynamics) in Michigan.

Yeah. I found that out reading the article though. On the other hand I think the Abrahams uses the active armour system Israel developed. Not sure where it is built.

Hmmmm I’m now wondering how many Michigan muslims are building tank engines for Israel and whether they know it or not.

No worries. The Merkava is an Israeli design which is sometimes confused with Israeli produced. The latest version has some interesting design updates/differences from other Western tank designs adapted to their somewhat unique battle space/likely opponents.

Yeah they prioritize crew safety in a couple of ways one of which is to put the engine in the front. Crew safety. Imagine that.

The not having a loader’s hatch as a way to mitigate RPG by removing a potential weak point is smart given their likely opponent. I don’t know how well putting the engine in front is gonna workout v a peer opponent. For urban areas where some guy with an RPG is the most likely opponent it is smart….a more open battle space against a peer? Probably ain’t gonna matter. Disable the tank then gun down the crew as they hop out to get away from the ready rack ammo cooking off. A mobility kill on a tank in a modern setting is nearly as good as destroying it. Use ISR overwatch and kill the maintenance guys when/if they show up. Drones and modern anti tank rockets like Javelin which hit the weaker/thinly armored top v heavier armored front slope and the location of the engine won’t matter much. Russia is knocking out all sorts of solid Western tanks using drones with chips from damn household appliances. Maneuver is the name of the game and that’s a problem for armor b/c they eat huge amounts of fuel an M1 Abrams needs just under 2 Gal to move one mile.

Dependence with independence is a model of life.

They build much of their own defense equipment, fortunately, including a nuclear deterrent and delivery systems. Still with the prospect of a possible future Leftist-controlled US and an Islamic Western Europe [with its nukes] soon; it makes a lot of sense to rely in such a case on more than divine protection. Something about helping those who help themselves.

Subotai Bahadur

A few decades late, but still welcome.

I would also like to see the US out of NATO since European countries are inexorably going Islamist and at the very least we should not be funding them. The Spanish PM has already expressed eagerness to use nukes on Israel, and he is hardly the only European leader who dreams of a nuclear holocaust to obliterate Jews.

I am sorry but I think it’s needed. Most people don’t know but some of our high-tech equipment includes Israeli inventions the we are licensed to use.

    They include:

    – the active armor system used on armour called Trophy
    – our original drones were Israeli
    – Arrow 3 anti-missile interceptor was codeveloped
    – Iron Dome was funded by US but developed by Israel and US has access to it
    – Some of the fighter avionics was Israeli developed. This includes I think the Helmet. I’m a
    bit fuzzy here

This is what I recall from various articles without further research,

Jews, especially Ashkenazy Jews are responsible for much of humanity’s advancement. Muslims should be denied benefit of all Jewish advancements.
