Speaker Johnson Tells House Members to Return to D.C. to End Shutdown

Johnson hopes to vote on Wednesday.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson told House members to return to D.C. “right now” after the Senate passed the continuing resolution late Monday night.

The bill heads to the House due to changes made in the Senate.

Johnson promised swift action, hoping to have a vote on Wednesday. However, the government won’t reopen until President Donald Trump signs the CR.

From Politico:

Chiefs of staff for House members have received notice to make arrangements for their bosses to return to Washington. The chamber has a lengthy to-do list that’s piled up since lawmakers have been back in their districts, but the first task is taking up Senate-passed legislation to reopen the government.

Today is a federal holiday in observance of Veterans Day, but House GOP leadership is prepared to convene a Rules meeting sometime in the afternoon to tee up the government funding package for floor consideration Wednesday. Votes could occur as soon as Wednesday at 4 p.m. according to a whip notice that went out Monday night.

Unfortunately, the flight delays and cancellations could complicate matters.

On Monday, the country faced over 22,000 delays and over 2,500 cancellations.

It was a complete surprise! They were all caught off guard. They were not aware of what was going on in the news and had absolutely no idea they would be needed back in Washington DC to vote. The only information available was the notification provided by Speaker Johnson.

The senate had to hold the Sunday night vote open for hours because Cornyn had higher priorities in Austin even though Thune told people to stay in DC.

all across are great country ( been saying this since obama) the left has snuck in their people to the smaller towns and sure enough their rotting fruits are springing to power

upstate ny maine and no doubt manyyyy other cities

so johnsons “show” of power best extend to greater reaches and it has been proven that the dems will submit when pressed ….but how many more djt’s do we have in our lineup????!!!!!

so if we dont get this sh done now…we will have left our children and grand children an enslaved legacy

In the future they should chain them to their desks and chairs in the chambers so they can’t leave. Leave them a bucket to pass around for bathroom breaks.

As far as I know, automobiles and trains still work. Horseback is probably not an option.

Maybe this will reduce the ‘drama queen’ behavior of the Dems in the House, who have been trouncing around making Tick-Tack videos and drama poses in empty chambers. Now that they need to get back to work, they’ll resume their normal whining and screeching.
