Report: Ted Cruz Aiming for 2028 Presidential Run
Cruz responded: “You know reporters are going to write headlines that get get clicks and get eyeballs. I got a job. It’s representing 31 million Texans, and it’s fighting every day for 31 million Texans.”
Axios claims Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) will run for president in 2028 by professing his conservative views while attacking Tucker Carlson.
I have to admit that it’s a great way to showcase your traditional conservative views.
But it will likely put him against Vice President JD Vance:
Why it matters: By poking at Carlson’s isolationist foreign policy views, accusing him of antisemitism and more, Cruz is putting himself on a collision course with Vice President Vance, a Carlson ally widely seen as the 2028 GOP frontrunner.
- The senator also is diving into issues that are tearing at President Trump’s MAGA movement, namely ideological differences over Israel.
- “We have a responsibility to speak out even when it’s uncomfortable,” Cruz said in a statement to Axios. “When voices in our own movement push dangerous and misguided ideas, we can’t look the other way. I won’t hesitate to call out those who peddle destructive, vile rhetoric and threaten our principles and our future. Silence in the face of recklessness is not an option.”
Carlson has been a regular in the headlines since his slobbering with neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes. However, Carlson has showcased his antisemitism for a while, which Professor Jacobson highlighted in August.
Cruz has been consistent in his criticism of Carlson and even fellow Republicans.
Earlier this month, Cruz called out Republican senators for not condemning Carlson:
“My colleagues, almost to a person, think what is happening is horrible, but a great many of them are frightened because he has one hell of a big megaphone,” Cruz (R-Texas) said Friday during a speech at the Federalist Society’s National Lawyers Convention in Washington.
—
At the RJC last week, he said he has “seen more antisemitism on the right” in the past six months “than I have in my entire life.”
“If you sit there with someone who says Adolf Hitler was very, very cool, and that their mission is to combat and defeat global Jewry, and you say nothing, then you are [a] coward and you are complicit in that evil,” Cruz said.
But Cruz was more forceful Friday in criticizing fellow conservatives for not forcefully condemning Carlson.
“Fuentes and Tucker and the rest of that ilk have a right to say what they are saying,” Cruz said at the Federalist Society convention. “Every one of us has an obligation to stand up and say it is wrong.”
“It’s easy right now to denounce Fuentes,” Cruz added. “Are you willing to say Tucker’s name?”
On X, Cruz shared a portion of a newsletter from independent journalist David Reaboi that trashed Carlson.
“Tucker is now-literally-calling Jews…Nazis,” wrote Cruz.
This highlighted sentence is astonishing. Tucker is now—literally—calling Jews…Nazis.
But really, he’s not an antisemite. https://t.co/xX8DFAmHMd pic.twitter.com/SmbuBPo8Tv

This afternoon, Harris Faulkner asked Cruz about the rumors on Fox News.
Cruz dodged the question but expressed the work he’s doing for his Texas constituents. He also did not mention Tucker Carlson:
You know reporters are going to write headlines that get get clicks and get eyeballs. I got a job. It’s representing 31 million Texans, and it’s fighting every day for 31 million Texans.
And I’ll tell you right now, the winds we are getting are historic. The one big, beautiful bill you were talking about just a minute ago, I was blessed to write major portions of that bill. I’ll tell you two victories in that bill that I’m most proud of. Number one, I authored and passed into law the single most far reaching federal school choice bill that has ever passed. Tens of millions of kids will get billions of dollars of scholarships to get out of failing schools and get to excellent schools of their choice that will transform the lives of 10s of millions of kids. And number two, I authored in the law the so called Trump accounts, that starting next year, every child in America will have a personal investment account. You’ll have $1,000 for newborns seated in that account. Parents can give up to $5,000 a year. It will be invested in the S&P 100 and Harris, every single child in America is going to be an owner of the major employers in America. We’re going to be a whole new generation of capitalists. And so the victories we are winning are a big deal.
That’s where my focus is, and it’s why my focus right now is on the Christians in Nigeria, because working hand in hand, I was at the White House last week with the President talking to him, thanking him for standing up for the Christians in Nigeria. As you noted, when Biden turned the other way, more and more murders occurred, because when the commander in chief is absent, is a wall. Bad guys do really bad things, and I’m really glad we now have a strong commander in chief, who will stand up and say, We’re not going to do nothing while you commit mass murder of Christians.
Sen. Ted Cruz: "There is literally no country on Planet Earth where Christians are being murdered at anywhere near the rate they are being murdered in Nigeria." pic.twitter.com/rzZrMkIOZn

I like Ted Cruz as a Senator. I just don’t see him as President. JD Vance as the nominee and maybe Cruz for VP. Or Marco Rubio.
Id like to see him on SCOTUS
I NEVER want to see any politician appointed to SCOTUS. Historically, politicians have always moved far Left once they got there.
Good. No one should ever get a pass to a nomination and that includes Vance. Frankly unless Vance distances himself from the Jew hating nazis claiming to be part of the Republican party he won’t get my support. He actually has to do more than distance. I don’t care if they are friends, Toss these troglodytes in the trash.
I presume you mean TC but can you identify whom you wish to be more than distanced from/tossed into the trash?
Do you apply this to everyone else to include Trump who passed on the opportunity to slam TC on Sunday?
Can you please list the specific things TC has advocated for himself that you find objectionable as opposed to things his interview subjects advocated for which you find objectionable?
See the tweet embedded twice in this post. That is outright antisemitic.
Milhouse I presume the highlighted text is what you refer to as objectionable since you didn’t specify. Comparing the IDF leadership to Eichmann is grossly offensive and wildly inaccurate.
Here you used the term antisemitic to describe the TC tweet but ztakddot didn’t use that term. Instead he used the phrase ‘Jew hating nazis’ which seems to me to be a different thing than plain antisemitism. IOW a ‘Jew hating nazi’ must be antisemitic by definition but an antisemite is not required to be a ‘Jew hating nazi’. IMO we need to be very careful about throwing around the nazi label b/c it carries much more meaning than just antisemitism.
TC or anyone else behaving as he does.
Yes. No one gets a pass in my personal book. Yours maybe different.
I don’t object to any interview a journalist (or someone posing as one) does including interviewing foul and objectionable people. That’s their job. However, I expect a journalist to push back on objectionable statements. If they don’t then what their are doing is providing a one sided platform for them to pontificate on their views without challenge. In my book that is not only enabling them but implicitly supporting those views.
Why would you imply that I would give a pass when I asked for more specifics as to whom you referred to and what specifically they said? That’s really not very fair to me given that you want me to agree to shun/shame drive someone out from our midst…it would be helpful to know exactly who and for exactly what.
TC has definitely lost his way. Playing footsie with Fuentes is incredibly stupid. TC is leaning into antisemitic troupes and doing so for clicks/site traffic at least IMO. That to me makes it worse. Each month he seems to go deeper into kooky territory. He definitely seems to be embracing some oddball and deeply troubling positions.
I definitely agree that conducting an interview with a fringe figure/extremist like Fuentes and not pushing back/challenging their wild claims or assertions is incredibly irresponsible. I’ve stated that here at LI multiple times. Failing to do so turns the ‘interview’ into no more than an open Mic night opportunity for a whacko to spew nonsense on a bigger stage/platform than they can generate for themselves.
I said your book may be different. I didn’t say it was.
‘Jew hating nazis” was hyperbole. I’m not exactly sure what would qualify someone as a nazi today. It’s more than being antisemitic but being antisemitic is a requisite.
Is TC a nazi? Is Fuentes. Probably not? Is Fuentes antisemitic, Yes. Is TC? Maybe. He certainly seems to like to skim the boundaries of antisemitism. We have at least one commenter here who likewise flirts with antisemitism.
The issue here is Vance’s relationship with TC given TC’s actions. If he wishes to be the leader of the Republican party than he has to decide how big their tent is and what behavior is disqualifying. I’m saying TC’s behavior right now disqualifies him and Vance’s lack of not explicitly setting boundaries is not very leader like.
FWIW Fuentes is IMO definitely reading out of the white nationalist hymnal. For anyone to ‘interview’ him and not force him to defend his outrageous statements/claims is more than unprofessional, it is irresponsible. Is YC an antisemite? He is definitely playing with antisemitic troupes and themes…he seems to have developed a fondness for repeating the word usury as one example… though he does apply it payday lenders which seems fair.
You demand that Vance must disassociate himself from TC but still haven’t stated exactly what you object to with TC aside from him being a crap interviewer that doesn’t push back enough and gives a wide audience to whackos like Fuentes (which we agree)
I harp on that b/c you initially used the term nazi and that’s a big, bold claim not one that should be thrown around in an imprecise way or without accompanying evidence. (Note to TC – asking follow-up questions and forcing someone to explain their terms and defend position isn’t hard, I’m doing that right now) I appreciate your willingness to back off that claim and admit it was hyperbole.
If you want us to drive Vance out of contention for the GoP nomination if he refuses to denounce TC then in all fairness I believe you have the responsibility to tell us specifically the things you believe TC himself has stated that warrants such an action. The d/prog usually take these these sorts of stances; X person is bad b/c I said he’s bad and if you don’t denounce him then you’re just as bad as x person’.
Let me assure you I maybe a Jews but I have zero power to influence any politician let alone drive them out of a nomination. I’m also not a republican which means I have even less say.
To restate my position journalists/commentators can interview anyone. They have the responsibility though to either push back on controversial comments or frame the interview before or after it so it is clear they disagree with comments. Failing to do so is tantamount to agreeing with them.
A politician should distance themselves from controversial characters for their own sake, They should be willing to comment on their associates. Failure to do is a failure in both character and leadership.
I;m speaking in broad general terms here. Nothing something more specific.
Fuentes is a rat. Even looks like one. I’d feel dirty being in the same room as him. I loathe him and his ilk. I left unsaid what I would do if could.
TC is irresponsible. I have no problem with his interview. I have a problem with lack of pushback or framing. I don’t care why he didn’t do any of this. The fact is he didn’t and so I have to believe he is sympathetic to what Fuentes said if he doesn’t alright believe it.
Vance political instincts should have pushed him to publicly distance himself from TC, He hasn’t He values the relationship over TC’s support for the comments made. That is disqualifying for me. His choice. My choice.
The same goes for the Heritage Foundation. Again, my choice,
This is about has barebones as I can make it into my thinking.
Voted for Cruz in primary before Trump won it in 2016.
But every candidate better up their game as may the best candidate win
Cruz down at the border with Glenn ext crying over the poor illegal children
With teddy bears in tow
Cruz is no America First
You got a problem with the truth or a very short memory

” [My job is] fighting every day for 31 million Texans.”
All of the Republican hopefuls are idiots. Your job isn’t fighting but persuading, sometimes your constituents and sometimes your opponents.
And being wise enough to pick out the right thing to persuade about.
All of civil society isn’t a contest of wills but originally watching out for the rights of the other guy.
Think Trump if it helps.
You honestly do not understand? Trump said fight, fight, fight.
In my opinion Cruz doesn’t come across as particularly likeable, or at least he didn’t in the 2016 debates. And it’s a shame. I think he’s one of the most intelligent legislators on Capitol Hill.
I recall a story in which IIRC Cruz was asked by an Iowa farmer how he or any candidate could be against subsidies for corn/ethanol (a stance that guarantees a poor performance in the caucuses there). And that after Cruz patiently and respectfully explained the reasons behind his stance, that farmer decided to support him.
Shades of Horatio Bunce!
WTF, every time I see his pic he is fatter. He needs to buck up and get back in the game.
He should run if we wants to and we should absolutely have a competitive primary not an anointing to select the nominee but I’m a hard pass on Cruz for POTUS in ’28.
Cruz is a great Senator, but he just doesn’t have the charisma required to be President. Having him in the running will elevate the debate and help hone the eventual winner for the general election.
I like Ted Cruz and voted for him I. The primary in 2016. It would be nice to have less exciting candidates that are just experienced and get the job done. I’m tired of the crazy politicians and the drama frankly . I voted for Trump 3 times but someone less bombastic would be nice. .
Ahh he’ll give you a teddy bear too!
Just go down to the border…
I have nothing against Cruz himself.
But I am SO SICK of so many Senators (and to a lesser degree, governors) making a career of running for President multiple times as long as it doesn’t cost them anything.
If you want to run for President you should have to resign whatever office you currently hold.
Hmmm by that logic I’m afraid a 1st term president would have to resign to run for a second term.
A senator (or congressman) can easily do to their job and run for president. The only critical part of their job is showing up for votes. Most of the committee hearings seem pointless, the fact finding trips are a waste of time and money, and they have large staffs to gather information for briefings and write legislation of needed.
However. a governor is a different matter. They are the chief executive of a state, They should resign to run for president. I watch Dukakis let MA run itself into the ground when he was running for president all while touting the MA miracle. It was infuriating.
I was for Cruz until….Iowa and Ben Carson. Too many will remember that. He would better serve in SCOTUS.
I don’t want politicians anywhere near the bench in SCOTUS. The historical record of politicians on the bench is they move Left, really fast. For the Court, you want a Circuit court judge with a track record.
Maybe you all should remember the great Cruz down at the border supporting the illegals and not the border agents
You all kind make me ill
Just because Cruz spoke up does not mean he is running for president. It was the right thing to do. Not everything is done to serve another purpose.
As far as Vance goes, he needs to speak up. Can’t be friends with Jew haters. It’s as simple as that.
I”m a huge Ted Cruz fan. Voted for him in the primary in ’16.
He’d make an excellent President.
He’ll never get elected President. He’s rather sub-par as a candidate. Has trouble holding his seat even in TX.
I feel the same about Ron DeSantis. Easily one of the best, possibly the single best, Governor of any State in our nation’s history. Lousy campaigner though. Even has trouble getting support among R’s, much less independents.
If Cruz or DeSantis win the R nomination, we’re likely to see a D win the general.
Don’t think he has much of a chance in the primary either. Rubio or Vance will crush him. And a Rubio/Vance or Vance/Rubio ticket would be unstoppable.
It is too early to say how a Vance/Rubio ticket would do in 2028. We don’t know what conditions will be like 3 years from now. If conditions are really bad, they might not even run, and let some loser take the fall, the way the Dems did with Kamalala.
Vance has been behaving horribly at best, and early polls should not force you to coronate someone who has been actively pursuing a close relationship with the Groyper movement.
dont forget the lefty msm is building up this narrative of the gop >gop racist pov
just like the epstein papers….its overall insignificant but carries much power as the rino faction would rather lose elections than have maga agenda
cruz is legit and would receive much help FROM THE DEMS
as he would be an easier to defeat target than vance>>rubio…in the general elections
the gop doesnt even know how to crush the michelle obama pr train
Cruz just got reelected, so can have a free pass at running in 2028. But I won’t be voting for him in the primary. He is a big grandstander (although not as big as Hawley), and I think less of him than I used to.
Don’t think cruz can win the personality contest, but then vance has charisma deficit also.
