In 96 my company moved me and my family from California to Northern Virginia. Me and my wife learned quickly that the school system was bad in Loudoun County.
Our two sons were one level apart and in Middle School. It got far worse when each reached HS. We tried to get through with teachers, admin, and the school board, but we never got anywhere. I am an Electrical Engineer and a Manager (MBA), and my wife has a Finance degree and worked for a Bank. We ended up tutoring our sons through every class until they graduated.
Once each graduated HS the decision of college had to be made. Both of them and us figured if HS had gone bad so had college compared to when me and my wife had gone in the 70s.
So each of them decided on a trade and we found them a Trade School to attend. This was in 04 and 05. It took each about 2 years, but cost half a year of college for each. Within 5 years of finishing they were making well over 6 figures and had paid off all debts.
