The strained relationship between the woketivist wing, establishment Democrats, and the few moderate-ish ones left continues to play out after eight Senate Democrats broke ranks to vote with Republicans to commence with ending the Schumer Shutdown earlier this month.
With the likes of possible Schumer 2028 primary challenger Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) railing against those Senate Democrats for allegedly agreeing to a reopen deal “in exchange for nothing,” some of those Democrats are out there pushing back against the criticisms while scoffing at the possibility of a primary challenge.
Among them has been Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), one of the few Democrats on the Senate side to vote with Republicans every time to reopen the government. This is something that prompted the Pennsylvania chapter of the Working Families Party to announce they were going to try to primary him in 2028:
Fetterman sat down for a Fox News interview earlier this week, where he observed that it was likely that whoever his Democrat political opposition put up against him would undoubtedly make him “look the reasonable guy” in the race:
“Voting to keep our government open, that was a vote to make sure that 42 million Americans get their SNAP. And now we’re going to pay all these people, like the military and the Capitol Police and all of those folks now, too,” he added. “So now if they want to primary me … but my point, it’s like I’ve been on the side of common sense and I’ve always gonna put our country for party. And I think most people now realize that shutting our government down was wrong.”
Watch:
During the interview, Fetterman also reiterated his support for Israel, noting that the socialists in the Democratic Party, like NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, were being “absurd and arrogant” with talk of things like observing “international law” and vowing to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on behalf of the International Criminal Court, which the U.S. doesn’t recognize.
Proclamations like that, Fetterman stated, only galvanized him to support Israel even more:
As for the demands of the Democratic Socialists of America, such as having Mamdani divest from Israel, ban Israeli products and arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he comes to New York City, Fetterman said they were “absurd and arrogant” and “empty kinds of threats.”
Fetterman allowed that some in his party are “becoming more and more anti-Israel,” but that solidifies his staunch support for Israel.
“That just affirms me that’s a signal to just lean in harder and be very proud to stand with Israel because that’s our key ally,” he said.
Watch:
At another point, Fetterman pointed out that “In increasingly polarizing times, I just want to be normal, and I just want to have common sense.”

As for that Working Families Party primary challenge, they don’t have a candidate just yet, but they do have a candidate recruitment page on their website.
