Portland PD Arrest Conservative Journalist Nick Sortor After Anti-ICE Clashes

Sortor said the night before that he felt the “Portland PD would arrest him if he tried to defend himself.”

The Portland police arrested conservative journalist Nick Sortor after another chaotic night with Antifa and anti-ICE rioters.

Fox News’s Bill Melugin posted on X this morning at 7:24 AM:

NEW: Last night at the Portland ICE building, we witnessed anti-ICE protesters burning an American flag. @nicksortor then grabbed it from them, put the flames out, and took away what was left of the flag. Nick was arrested later in the night by Portland PD after videos appear to show him surrounded by anti-ICE protesters. It’s unclear what exactly happened, we are working on getting in touch with him once he is released from custody.

We had seen Nick get surrounded and verbally threatened by protesters the previous night. He posted on X that he felt Portland PD would arrest him if he tried to defend himself.

About 10 minutes later, Melugin posted that the police released Sortor.

Melugin provided more information:

BREAKING: Just spoke on the phone with @nicksortor after he was released from custody. He tells me he’s been charged with disorderly conduct. I asked what happened?

He says he was getting video of protesters getting maced by federal agents, which was embarrassing video for them as they were “crying” etc. He says they then swarmed/surrounded him, pushed him down into a flower bed, and someone threw a punch. Nick says he swung back and missed, then disengaged and walked over to a group of Portland PD.

He says he was then shocked to be arrested by them, and he sat in the back of a police cruiser while officers figured out what to charge him with.

I asked him about the female protester who was also arrested with him. He said he talked to her in the jail and she didn’t seem like she was the one who assaulted him.

“At about 8:09 p.m., PPB Dialogue Officers (DLOs) observed two men fighting near the ICE building driveway. The DLOs called in additional resources and officers were responding when the fight ended following one participant being knocked to the ground. He did not lose consciousness and never requested medical help,” stated the Portland Police Bureau, according to Fox News. “Both involved were detained by federal law enforcement and were later released. Neither party indicated they wanted to make a police report.”

Cammila Wamsley, director of Portland’s ICE office, told Melugin that “the facility has faced violence for more than 100 consecutive nights, with Portland police largely absent under guidance from the mayor and city council.”

The nightly protests include bottle rockets, rocks, and lasers targeting officers’ eyes.

Honeybadger (one of the journalists covering antifa) is getting sued by one of Antifa who attacked her in July. After getting hit, she pepper sprayed them. Now they are suing for pain and suffering damages.

Knowing that PDX courts, this will not be a fair trial.

Also this weekend antifa clubbed another journalist in the face (Katie Daviscourt) and she pointed the attacker out to the police who would not arrest them. They PPB then put out a “help us identify an unknown attacker” memo in response. The police there now work for antifa, as well as the courts, and the entire city.

Portland PD is also under orders not to interfere with ANTIFA.

Not just under orders, but since the exodus in recent years by officers who were not comfortable with the direction city government was taking the department, the Portland PD has self-selected those most sympathetic to rioters and least concerned with actual law enforcement.

Zey ahh chust followink ohrdehrz, meine freund! Just like their great grandparents did in Europe 90 years ago.

/Any of you think it can’t happen here, think again. The police are NOT your friend. They are in place to control.

Perhaps the Portland PD needs to change its name to the Antifa Protection Department. It could revise its motto: “To Serve and Protect Antifa From All Others”. That would be less confusing to the general public.

The PPD is protecting that pension and the communist mob. Cowards.

Pension, freedom to carry firearms, immunity, access to the evidence locker, and shaking down local merchants.

Sounds like the DOJ needs to start investigating the Portland police for civil rights violations.

Sanctuary city PDs have sh*tlib DA office attorneys on call, which at night means drunk, partying girl bosses radioing them and telling them what to do.

Lost in the anti-defund the police movement is the realization that most cops are spineless bullies. Still, they were not out on search and destroy missions against innocent blacks. Quite the opposite, they target innocent whites because they are too chicken shit against accusations of racism.

B-b-b-but I thought AntiFa was a construct of the MAGA mind and not a real organization. Perhaps the media pushes a narrative, no?

Conversation just before the arrest:

Officer 1: “People say we’re not doing our jobs. If we don’t arrest SOMEBODY it’s going to get ugly.”

Officer 2: “Yeah but those Antifa people scare me. Besides, if we arrest them, it will be the end of our careers!”

Officer 1: “Hey! That guy isn’t a member of Antifa! You can tell because he’s out of uniform.”

Officer 2: “Yeah, and the people in uniform are attacking him.”

Officer 1: “Ooooooh! He must be dangerous. Has he posted anything weird on the Internet?”

Officer 2: “Let’s let them beat him down a little more, to take the fight out of him. THEN we should arrest him.”

Would be fitting if somehow the Portland Mayor, the most radical council members and a couple of Oregon leftist congress critters had a bit too much to drink at a party and ended up dumped at the riot now dressed in MAGA gear. I wonder if they would enjoy the mostly peaceful reception they get. Perhaps in the middle of their beating they would even want the Feds to intervene and protect them?

In an effort to get ICE to flee, “Portland progressives plan to strip naked and ride their bikes through the city in protest of President Donald Trump’s decision to send in the National Guard. It doesn’t make much sense, does it? Well, it’s Portland.”

Veering off topic a bit. Just a few (170) miles north in Seattle the local logic is not much better.. During a Seattle mayoral debate, the current mayor (Bruce Harrell) is clearly of the mind that jail is not the answer to any question.

“The moderator asked Harrell a fairly simple question: “If somebody has offended six, seven, eight times, even if it’s a minor offense, but they continue to fail to turn their life around, at what point do you balance public safety to giving this person some accountability?”

Harrell gave a stunning response. Instead of addressing accountability for an eight-time offender, Harrell waxed poetic about learning their “life story.” He openly declared, “I have no desire to put them in jail””

https://seattlered.com/seattle-red/opinion/rantz-mayor-harrell-says-he-wouldnt-jail-8-time-offender-wants-to-learn-their-life-story/4114523

And of course, the good mayor’s opponent is politically to the left of him – think a Seattle version of Mamdani.

Used to be we had bleeding heart politicians who would say, “There but for the grace of God go I.”
Now we have millennial grifters and wastrels, who say, “Oh yeah, I been there!”

JRaeL in reply to Arnoldn. | October 3, 2025 at 5:43 pm

Harrell should learn his life story by inviting him to stay at the mayor’s domicile for a couple of years.

Portland Mayor and Police Chief are aiding and abetting terrorists. They should be arrested for treason.

If y’all aint on Twitter… you are missing soooooooo much awesome FAFO porn with antifa and ICE from last night.

The feds brought a tanker truck of pepper spray and they are using it up like it has an expiration date of Sunday 10/5 8:00 am.

Don’t worry, the pepper spray factory will make more.

Dialogue officers? WTF?

Didn’t Nick steal a flag from someone, on video? That’s theft. That’s a crime. I’m MAGA (3X) but this is not a winning fight. Nick broke the law.

Dolce Far Niente in reply to globalcop. | October 3, 2025 at 4:33 pm

Yes, he took a burning US flag and extinguished the flames.

And, ecktyally, burning an American flag in a manner that is likely to incite imminent lawless action or that is an action amounting to “fighting words” is not constitutionally protected, says SCOTUS.

Also, I’m sure when he pulled that burning flag away from the antifa creep, he was simply assuming that the flag was trash being disposed of improperly, and acted for safety reasons.

Which makes as much sense as your ERMERGERD DATS A CWIME!!! post.

And, ecktyally, burning an American flag in a manner that is likely to incite imminent lawless action or that is an action amounting to “fighting words” is not constitutionally protected, says SCOTUS.

Not true. It is literally impossible for burning a flag to incite lawless action. You are deliberately misusing “incite” to mean “provoke”, which is the exact opposite. You are endorsing the hecklers’ veto. The constitution does not allow that.

And even if the “fighting words” doctrine were still good law (it almost certainly isn’t), it is again literally impossible for burning a flag to constitute fighting words. “Fighting words”, by definition, must be directed at a specific individual. They are an insult so severe that the target has almost no choice but to respond with violence. There was a time when SCOTUS allowed states to make laws banning such speech, if they wanted to. But a lot has changed in 1st amendment law since then, and it’s almost certainly no longer good law.

The open fire was a threat to property in the community. He put the fire out. He’s a hero. Want to burn something (anything)? Burn it on your own property and contained in an appropriate receptacle.

Milhouse in reply to DaveGinOly. | October 4, 2025 at 11:51 am

The fire was no threat to anyone. It may have violated the fire code, but it was not an actual threat. And he is not the fire department. In any case, even the fire department would not have been allowed to steal the flag.

do to antifa/blmplo what we have done to iran etc

spay and neuter

Rule #4 of my “Militia ROE” (as it appears on a handout to demonstrators to give warning that the militia is not the police, and they shouldn’t expect the militia to act like police):
If you aim any laser device at us, it will be considered an attempt to permanently blind, or a prelude to laser-aimed fire, and you will be shot. (We hold the threat of permanent blinding by laser light a threat of “grievous bodily harm” and our promised response to be self-defense. We trust the courts will agree.)

Nick showed that Portland’s PD is working with ANTIFA via orders from their higher ups. The Feds as part of investigating ANTIFA needs to investigate all cities, counties, and states and their government officials that are in bed with ANTIFA and charge them as terrorists. I see problems in getting the Judiciary to prosecute.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion. It may be possible the police arrested Sorter to get him out of harm’s way. I doubt they are carrying water for Antifa. They do however have to obey the order of the chief who gets orders from the mayor. It may be very likely that the higher ups have told the police to take a hands off approach. In that case the police sure can’t protect the safety of the public via mass arrests of Antifa. They can however do so by removing potential sources of escalation even if that means BS charges against those not likely at fault.

DaveGinOly in reply to JRaeL. | October 3, 2025 at 6:14 pm

That’s a possibility. But in that case they should have released him immediately upon arrival at a police station and explained to him that they conducted the “arrest” in order to extricate him without causing a problem.

JRaeL in reply to DaveGinOly. | October 3, 2025 at 7:18 pm

You are right. As hard as it is, recently I am trying to take a more generous view of people’s motives if such is possible. Otherwise my soul will not outlast my outrage.

More and more of our Leftist controlled urban areas are earning the acronym TWANLOC.

Somehow this is going to be resolved one way or another.

Subotai Bahadur

I’m reading elsewhere that DOJ (Bondi & Dhillon) have announced an investigation into Portland PD.
