UK, Canada and Australia Formally Recognize ‘Palestinian State’

Netanyahu: Recognizing Palestinian statehood an ‘absurd prize for terrorism.’

Less than two years after Hamas’s October 7 massacre, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have formally recognized a ‘Palestinian state.’

“The British prime minister, Keir Starmer, has just announced the UK’s recognition of a Palestinian state,” The Guardian (UK) reported Sunday afternoon. “It comes shortly after Canada and Australia both decided to recognise Palestine as a sovereign state.”

“Today, to revive the hope of peace and a two-state solution, I state clearly – as prime minister of this great country – that the United Kingdom formally recognises the state of Palestine,” he said in a televised statement.

Prime Minister Netanyahu condemned the decision, calling it an ‘absurd prize for terrorism,’ while Israel is still fighting in Gaza to free the hostages held in Hamas captivity since October 7, 2023.

Canada and Australia, both members of the British Commonwealth, appear to have coordinated their move with London.

Ahead of Starmer’s speech, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a statement, saying “Canada recognises the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel.”

In Australia, the country’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, released a joint statement. “Australia recognises the legitimate and long-held aspirations of the people of Palestine to a state of their own,” the duo said.

“Today’s act of recognition reflects Australia’s longstanding commitment to a two-state solution, which has always been the only path to enduring peace and security for the Israeli and the Palestinian people,” they added.

Reuters reports:

Britain said on Sunday it was recognising a Palestinian state after Israel failed to meet conditions including a ceasefire in the nearly two-year-old Gaza war.

“Today, to revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis, and a two-state solution, the United Kingdom formally recognises the State of Palestine,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on X. (…)

The decision carries symbolic weight as Britain played a major role in Israel’s creation as a modern nation in the aftermath of World War Two and has long been its ally.

Canada and Australia also recognised a Palestinian state on Sunday and other countries are expected to do so this week at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a move that put Starmer at odds with U.S. President Donald Trump, Britain had issued Israel with an ultimatum in July saying it would recognise a Palestinian state unless Israel took steps to end the “appalling situation” in Gaza.

Husam Zomlot, head of the Palestinian Mission in London, called the decision a “long-overdue recognition” that “is not about Palestine, but about Britain’s fulfilment of a solemn responsibility”.

Portugal is set to make a similar announcement later today. France, Belgium, and Portugal plan to recognize a ‘Palestinian state’ early next month at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

French newspaper Le Monde reported:

Portugal was also to recognize Palestinian statehood later Sunday, as Israel came under huge international pressure over the war in Gaza triggered almost two years ago by the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack. Portugal said that it would also formally declare its recognition in New York. “By acting now, as the Portuguese government has decided, we’re keeping alive the possibility of having two states,” Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said.

Netanyahu: Recognizing Palestinian statehood an ‘absurd prize for terrorism.’

Without commenting on today’s development, Prime Minister Netanyahu, on Sunday, vowed to fight “against the slanderous propaganda aimed at us, and against the calls to create a Palestinian state that will endanger our existence and constitute an absurd prize for terrorism.”

“The international community will hear from us on this matter in the following days,” he said, referring to the upcoming UN conference.

“At the UN, I will present the truth,” he told reporters. “It is the truth of Israel but it is also the objective truth of our just struggle against the forces of evil.”

The families of hostages also condemned the decision taken by the UK, Canada, and Australia to reward Palestinian terrorism. As the second anniversary of the October 7 massacre approaches, Hamas still holds 48 hostages in Gaza.

The Times of Israel reported:

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum issues a statement condemning the UK, Canada and Australia for the “unconditional recognition of a Palestinian state while turning a blind eye to the fact that 48 hostages remain in Hamas captivity.”

“As families who deeply want peace in the region, we believe that any discussion about recognizing a Palestinian state must be contingent upon the immediate release of all hostages,” the forum says, calling it a “moral and humanitarian imperative.”

The forum urges other nations to “act responsibly and ensure that any ‘day after’ discussions occur only after our loved ones are brought home.”

“We seek an end to this war, the safe return of all hostages, and a sustainable peace that benefits both peoples,” it says, adding that any action otherwise “effectively enables terrorism while legitimizing the October 7th massacre.”

“Offering such significant political rewards without securing the return of all 48 of our loved ones represents a catastrophic failure of political, moral, and diplomatic leadership that will severely damage efforts to bring them all home,” the forum adds.

Despite the lofty rhetoric, the decision is nothing other than an in your face reinforcement and reward of hatred for Jews and perpetual conflict. No one that truly cares for Western, democratic values and freedom could approve this idiotic, spiteful and destructive decision.

These fools think it will absolve them, when in truth it condemns them.

Regrettably I must repeat my prior comments. Obviously the world fails to learn from history and political leaders keep repeating what I assume are errors of human nature. Expulsion and destruction of minority peoples and those who might recognize another god or occupy land coveted by another. However they eventually are doomed to suffer the same consequences they imposed on others. The potential enlightenment brought by the Judeo-Christian religions on to the “ western world “ has failed to take hold among political leaders who seek power and wealth and the people be damned! Maybe anarchy is the solution. World destruction followed by a rebirth of a new and loving population. What the UK, and the UN soon to follow, will bring greater war and destruction in the middle east that will rapidly spread to Europe. Could this stupidity bring about Armageddon? Morality has died!

I see it more as “we recognize you, please no terror bombs on our buses, trains, or music concerts pretty please???”

It is long past time for America to back away from our “special” relationship with these proto-totalitarian governments.

It is destructive to our national safety to ally ourselves with nations that do not share our core values; as they twist leftward, they expose how antithetical they are to our constitutional republic and the God-given rights of citizens.

We can certainly trade with them, and might even find ourselves in a mutual defense posture with them, but they are not friends of our country and certainly not allies.

A pox on all the leaders of the countries that are rewarding Hamas. A pox on them and all their citizens that support them.

Meaning what? What are the borders of the state? Who are the government representatives of the state?

They can phrase it any way they want, but this rewards tactics by hamas and related islamofascists like hezbollah.

How do you recognize something that doesn’t exist?

Careful what you wish for, UK, Canada, et al. —

1) If ‘Palestine’ is a state, then any attack by it on Israel is an act of war. Israel is perfectly justified under international law to remove the gloves and extirpate them.

2) If ‘Palestine’ is a state, then any aid given to them during said state of war makes you a belligerent, not a neutral. Think about the implications of that.

Agreed, but you’re assuming these Leftist governments will operate according to that logic. If they adhere to a Judenrein or Judenfrei approach then an attack on ‘Jewish Occupied Palestine’ is valid whereas a defence into ‘native Arab land’ is verboten!

    What an excellent point!

Keir “Neville Chamberlain” Starmer: There will be peace for our time.

Well, this is the dumbest thing I’ve seen all day.

But the day is young yet. Still time for someone to outdo this foolishness.

Islam should be given no quarter. This is a creed that is not interested in going along to get along. They can no more stop themselves from trying to kill as many Jews as possible as I can stop breathing.

It is utter foolishness to believe otherwise.

They can put up embassies in Dearborn.

This is a completely predictable result of allowing Muslims to gain a critical mass of population in western nations.

As long as Hamas is still there, there’s nothing to recognize

Perhaps we should formally UN-recognize the UK, Canada, and Australia as independent nations . . .

“From the river to the sea” isn’t just a catchy phrase. By recognizing the so-called Palestinian State, these people have endorsed its policy of genocide.

President Trump, please increase their tariffs by 10,000%.

    What river? What sea?

Woke leftist: “I don’t know. I’m just here to protest. Free palestine! Yeah!”

Somewhere up there Winston Churchill, Maggie Thatcher and countless other great men and women are looking down at what has become of one of the great nations on Earth.

Israel needs to recognize Argentina’s sovereignty over the Falklands^W Malvinas, Spain’s sovereignty over Gibraltar, and Ireland’s sovereignty over Northern Ireland. I don’t know what border issues Canada and Australia have, but there’s probably something else along those lines that can be done.

So if they’re a separate State, Israel does not have to support them by feeding them and supplying them with fresh drinking water all the time, do they. Now we can also hold them responsible for their actions on the international stage. Have they thought this through?

To be fair, Hamas has had 20 years and hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign aid to do something since its come to power. The fact it hasnt invested that money in to the future of its peoples really tells you all you need to know about their priorities (to kill Jews).

Three cuckholded states virtue signaling before the caliphate replaces them about a place that has never existed.

The only way this could be a bigger insult to Trump is if they’d announced it while he was still in the UK.

Do they have recognizing unicorns next on their agendas?

Great. Gaza is now a state. So the Israeli government can demand the State of Gaza return it’s hostages. And when it doesn’t, it declares war, and violent removes that government and replaces it with a different one.

    ztakddot in reply to Think38. | September 21, 2025 at 4:05 pm

Nah remove the government an annex the territory. It is what China and Russia would do. For that matter extend Israel to the boundaries occupied by the original Greater Isreal. This is the doctrine of once Jewish forever Jewish similar to the believes of Muslims, Chinese, and Russians.

CommoChief in reply to ztakddot. | September 22, 2025 at 7:15 pm

To be fair the USA has done more than a little bit of grabbing territory we wanted from the folks who occupied and/or claimed it as their own….just as nearly every Nation has done throughout history. Grabbing territory doesn’t make a Nation ‘bad’ and having territory taken away doesn’t make a Nation or group ‘good’.

Their cover story isn’t that they’re….
> Frightened of Islamic terror
> Dependent on Islamic oil
.> Don’t much like Jews anyway.

Noooo…, it’s that THIS will “revive the two-state solution”.
It’s the British Empire (which later devolved into the UK & the Commonwealth) which initially set up the two states as a “solution”.
The Muslims rejected it, went to war, and miraculously lost, despite overwhelming odds and the still powerful authors of that “solution” passively waiting by for all the Jews to die.
Kinda like they did during WWII previously – not attacking the mechanism of the Death Camps or allowing what they KNEW was going on become common knowledge – in case their populous might insist they act.

To repeat – there is NO popular Islamic support for a “two state solution’ – at best some Islamic nations grudgingly admit they must treat Israel as a fellow nation – for now.
The only sort of popular support for a TSS is as a stepping stone to a ONE state solution – and it won’t be a multicultural one with Freedom of Religion.
It’ll be The Final Solution – Mark Two.

Aside from stevewhitemd’s cogent comments at 1229 hrs, there is the fact that these countries are apparently assuming that they will never need any help from us ever again.

Subotai Bahadur

Great. You recognize a terror-sponsored state, which is stupid in and of itself. Now, will you hold them accountable? I think I know the answer.

A disgusting capitulation by increasingly anti-Semitic (Far) Left governments.

Why can’t they understand that ‘Peace For Our Time’ means war tomorrow because you’ve shown you will not oppose their efforts.

Australian, Britain, and Canada, have now joined Iran as terrorist supporting states.

The only question is will the ABC governments support the Hamas state or the PLO state? Or do they want both and a Judenfrei Israel?

So what has changed since 2008 when Olmert offered all of Gaza, 96% of the West Bank with land swaps for security and East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital in search of peace?

Anyone?

Outside of the obvious terrorist implications, and I’ve seen this elsewhere:
What is the Capital of “Palestine” It’s currency, it’s borders, it Prime Minister, it’s Constitution. These, and more questions concern Statehood.

Give respect to terrorists and lose mine!

If you really want peace in the Middle East you will not get it by supporting people who only want peace over other people’s dead bodies.
