President Trump Shifts Space Command HQ from Colorado to Alabama
Colorado officials are unhappy and are planning to attempt another reversal of this decision.
President Donald Trump made a big announcement today, stating that the headquarters of U.S. Space Command will shift from Colorado to Huntsville, Alabama.
This move reverses a Biden-era decision and revives Trump’s original plan from his first term in office.
The decision reverses a move made under former President Joe Biden’s administration, which had selected Colorado Springs as the permanent home for the military’s newest combatant command.
Defense officials have previously estimated that relocating the headquarters, which became fully operational in December 2023, could cost hundreds of millions of dollars and take three to four years to complete.
The Space Command, established in 2019 under the first Trump administration, is responsible for military operations beyond Earth’s atmosphere and defending U.S. satellites from potential threats. About 1,700 personnel work at Space Command, according to congressional records.
“I am thrilled to report that the U.S. Space Command headquarters will move to the beautiful locale of a place called Huntsville, Alabama — forever to be known, from this point forward, as ROCKET CITY.” –@POTUS 🇺🇸🚀 pic.twitter.com/4kPwgpFGay

Huntsville, Alabama, also known as “Rocket City,” is home to critical military and space infrastructure, including the Army’s Redstone Arsenal, the Space and Missile Defense Command, and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Officials argue this proximity creates synergy for space operations and national defense.
The Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command is also located in Huntsville, which drew its nickname because of its role in building the first rockets for the U.S. space program.
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle said about 1,400 Space Command jobs will transition to Redstone Arsenal over the next five years.
“This decision is not about what’s best for Huntsville – it’s about being mission-focused,” said Battle. “The decision to locate U.S. Space Command at Redstone ensures our nation is prepared to meet growing challenges in space. Huntsville is ready with our experienced workforce, resilient infrastructure and deep commitment to national defense.”
Huntsville also has a high concentration of skilled technical workers.
Huntsville is loaded with tech talent and regularly wins accolades for a well-trained and highly educated workforce.
Earlier this year, the city was ranked No. 3 in the nation for the most high-tech jobs, according to an analysis of federal labor statistics by 24/7 Wall Street. The only two metros to top Huntsville are in California’s Silicon Valley and in Maryland near Washington D.C.
Huntsville has 15.7 percent of its 222,000-strong working in STEM fields, the analysis shows. The most common STEM job is aerospace engineers, which number nearly 4,000, more than any other major U.S. metro, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Trump also noted that Colorado’s laws on voting by mail were a “factor” in his decision.
Colorado officials are unhappy and are planning to attempt another reversal of this decision.
Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet also said in a statement that he and his colleagues are “united in fighting to reverse this decision.”
“Space Command’s long-term presence in Colorado Springs has also created a large number of civilian businesses and workers on which the Command now relies,” Bennet said. “Those people will not simply move with the Command at the military’s whim.”
When asked whether he was concerned about military families’ willingness to relocate to Alabama, Trump suggested SPACECOM would replace personnel who would not move: “I’m not worried. Then we’ll get somebody else.”
But for right now, it’s Sweet Home Alabama.
Space Command should be in Huntsville, Alabama.

I’ll believe it when I see it.
Colorado Springs is infested with the woke class. Huntsville is a good choice. As the article states there is a surplus of tech talent there. Fight all you want Sen Bennett. Do you think President Trump cares what you think or how you feel?
The Auto-Pen should not be making such important decisions. Besides, Colorado can’t even protect one citizen’s right to free speech,..let them figure that out before they start thinking about outer space
“Those people will not simply move with the Command at the military’s whim.”
They will move, or find another job.
Costs of moving are the fault of Biden’s puppet masters.
Yep someone doesn’t understand how military orders work.
I don’t see what the fuss is about. Look at the situation objectively. Huntsville/Redstone has been in the rocket/space business for nearly a hundred years. What does Colorado have to compare with that?
Of course, leftists are incapable of regarding things objectively. Their only interest is in how much graft that they can extract from the situation.
“What does Colorado have to compare with that?”
Cheyenne Mountain. That’s about it. It’s just image.
“What does Colorado have to compare with that?”
Lots of good pot!
Colorado Springs racist mayor elected with THIS:
The hoax began after an April 12, 2023 election in which neither Mobolade nor Wayne Williams, a white Republican, received a majority, triggering a runoff. According to court papers, the next day Bernard texted Mobolade: “Theirs [sic] a plot amidst. I’m mobilizing my squadron in defense and for the final push. Black ops style big brother. The klan cannot be allowed to run this city again.”
BUT THE DA SAID
we will NOT prosecute colorado sprnings first black mayor:::::
A black media personality was convicted last week of faking a hate crime against Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade to gin up votes for him, with the ringleader Derrick Bernard testifying that Mobolade was in on the hoax, and the FBI testifying that the mayor misled agents about his contact with Bernard.
Mobolade, who is Nigerian, won the election as a left-leaning independent in the traditional Republican stronghold in 2023 after the n-word was scrawled on one of his campaign signs and a cross set ablaze in front of it. Video of the scene was sent to the media, resulting in a swell of sympathy.
CORRUPT WOULD BE a nice way to say it

I’d rather it was a few miles north… in a state with no income tax.
No income tax is nice but not definitive about the totality of the true tax burden. Quick example, when I left El Paso, TX I didn’t pay State Income tax b/c TX doesn’t have one. I did pay about $480 per MONTH in property tax. I moved back to Alabama and sure there’s a 4% income tax but my property taxes are $360 ANNUALLY on a property with a 2K SF home, 2 acre ‘yard’, barn/workshop, swimming pool, 1.5 acre ponds, another 8 wooded acres, garden, small orchard.
Alabama also exempts quite a number of income types from income tax; disability income, Military retirement, Social Security, Federal retirement benefits, the interest income from US Treasury instruments, any inheritance, lots of things.
The point I am making here is to investigate and evaluate the applicability of the tax to your own situation instead of a surface level look at the existence of a tax and its rate b/c your specific income sources might be entirely exempt or mostly exempt.
The fourth reason on the list of why we didn’t retire to Florida in 2000 was that although it had no income tax, it had an assets tax (repealed since). It was a way to vacuum the retirement funds of geezers who no longer had incomes to tax. Didn’t strike me as a good trade in that phase of my life.
Retirees get treated pretty well in Bama from a tax standpoint. Hit full ‘retirement age’ and are also exempt from property tax. So just sales tax and excise tax on fuel, booze, tobacco to pay.
Good. Well-managed “red” states should be rewarded with federal largesse; not subversive and destructive Dhimmi-crat states.
Colorado tried to get Trump kicked off the ballot as a “felon.”
Now they’re complaining.
FAFO, Polis.
Remember when the Colorado Democrats tried to kick Trump off the ballot? This is Trump’s way of saying thank you.
“When asked whether he was concerned about military families’ willingness to relocate to Alabama, Trump suggested SPACECOM would replace personnel who would not move: “I’m not worried. Then we’ll get somebody else.””
Seriously? The military sends personnel and their families where the military needs. Always has. Always will. You go where sent. You do your time. You leave.
you signed a contract pal …
now you get xfered … uncle sugar
is going to move you free of charge.
all moving expenses paid in full and
you get paid milage … the military
isn’t going to say boo ….
if civilians say no … they can be replaced … easily….
not sure if the Gov’t pays civilian moving costs ….GS they probably do, but contractors … not sure …
Put your skis in storage and break out the DEET,
I’m fully in favor of hte move, but I can’t help wonder if it’s not also part of a plan to terminate the Artemis boondoggle by silencing opposition to the cancellation from the AL congress contingent. If so, well played, Mr Trump!
It was originally intended to be in Huntsville but Biden changed it to Colorado. The left, of course, is predictably outraged. They believe Alabama is too racist, backward and uneducated to provide a skilled civilian workforce. The sheer ignorance of the left never ceases to amaze me.
I think Huntsville has the most rocket scientists per capita of anywhere in the world. Or something like that.
Also they built a big new FBI building there that was supposed to become headquarters but never did. Sounds like a great place for Space Force.
““Those people will not simply move with the Command at the military’s whim.”
Wanna bet? Most will be happy to move out of a liberal lala land.
NORAD is in Colorado Springs and has been tracking space stuff for a long long time. It’s a perfect place for space command.
There are excellent reasons to put it in Huntsville, but Trump was such a clown to tie his decision to Colorado’s mail-in voting. I have mixed feelings about mail-in voting — could argue both sides of it — but the issue is extraneous to where to locate the Space Force HQ.
By raising it and calling it a significant part of his decision, Trump makes himself look like a petty jerk. Just when I am warming to him, the guy makes an ass of himself … again.
mailin voting as generally accepted is THE problem
when its a limited action…you can prove you are immobile etc
vs
yeah,,,just mail it in
military personnel can be one on accounted for
the general public not so much ( look up how much $$$ the irs/social security sends out “by mistake”
I can easily debate mail-in voting from both sides, but that’s not the point.
B/C fjb is a racist::::::::
Alabama’s population is approximately 5.05 million, with 63.8% identifying as White (Non-Hispanic) and 25.9% as Black or African American (Non-Hispanic).
Colorado’s demographics show a diverse population, with a significant percentage of residents identifying as White (70.7% as of 2020), followed by Hispanic or Latino (20.7%), Black (4.1%), and
so fjb chose CO b/c he doesnt trust poc
Oh, please…!
What is thus move costing the taxpayers?
Less than Keystone Pipeline, another gratuitous Biden revision.
The pipeline was never a gov’t-financed project. Make sense.
We paid at the pump.
The real question is what is the total cost of the Biden admin decision to reverse the original placement in Bama which was subsequently reversed by the current Trump Admin.
I suspect that within a decade or less the change back to Huntsville will have more than paid for itself in difference of cost of living payments and lower plant costs.
