Gender Ideology Scandal Topples Texas A&M President

“Welsh is the latest school president to depart this year after receiving backlash.”

Another university leader has been forced out after bungling a scandal over radical gender ideology in the classroom. At Texas A&M, the fallout over a gender identity lesson led to President Mark Welsh losing his job.

According to The Hill, the controversy exploded after a student confronted a professor in class, as seen above:

“Welsh, a former Air Force pilot and Joint Chiefs of Staff member, has received blowback from Republican lawmakers in recent days over a viral video in which a student challenged a professor, Melissa McCoul, regarding gender content in a children’s literature course.”

While McCoul was eventually fired, lawmakers argued Welsh failed to properly address the situation, and the dismissals of a few administrators weren’t enough.

“State Rep. Brian Harrison (R) shared the Sept. 8 video after it blew up online and caught the attention of other Texas legislators. McCoul was fired days later. Two more administrators were removed, but the changes did not satisfy some lawmakers, including Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R), who argued Welsh did not properly handle the situation.”

In his farewell letter, Welsh struck an upbeat tone, thanking students and faculty, but critics noted it sidestepped the very failures that brought down his presidency:

“You make this university whole. You give it a pulse. You bring it light. Thank you for constantly reminding me that living our Core Values lays the foundation for a life of value. Thanks for showing me that respecting others is the front door to a respected life.”

But “respect” at Texas A&M translated into tolerating radical professors until public pressure forced action. Students who objected were treated as the problem until lawmakers demanded accountability.

Welsh now joins a growing list of presidents who resigned this year after mismanaging campus turmoil. As The Hill noted:

“Welsh is the latest school president to depart this year after receiving backlash. Earlier this month, Northwestern University President Michael Schill said he would resign… Columbia University’s interim president resigned in May amid the institution’s fight… over its response to pro-Palestinian protests.”

Texas A&M’s turmoil is a warning shot to higher education: the danger lies in radical ideologues turning classrooms into battlegrounds for gender politics and other wedge issues.

The replacement will be just as bad but smarter about hiding it.

We’ll see, but as a long-time watcher and critic of Texas public higher education I’m a bit more optimistic.

.Right now, UT and TAMU are realizing that the days of them being politically bulletproof (and thus free to do whatever they wanted) are gone. The Texas Legislature has largely grown a spine and started cracking down on wokeness in state funded schools, and the regents of those two systems are finally getting some heat from Gov. Abbot.

Remember also that those two systems have a combined public endowment that rivals Harvard’s — we are talking tens of billions of dollars. Their worst nightmare would be if the Legislature decides those funds would be much better used by new or alternative institutions of higher ed, which would end the cushy gravy train those schools have long enjoyed. Faced with the choice of ending wokeness or potentially massive funding cuts, and seeing Texas politicians who recognize that going after wokeness in higher education is a winning political issue, not surprisingly the administrations of both schools have tacked sharply rightward recently.

Uber-coward UT president Jay Hartzell (who, until it was too late to save his job, reflexively surrendered to the wokesters on request) was chased off earlier this year, and my sources report he left because he knew he was on borrowed time. Now we are seeing the TAMU president similarly being chased off. That was inconceivable just a few years ago.

There is a long way to go at both schools due to the huge influx of hard leftist faculty and administrators. But between the Trump admin’s actions and the political realities in Texas, for the first time in many years I am seeing some real, positive changes (e.g., UT’s Civitas Institute, and UT Law dean Chesney)..

Texas A&M use to be one of the largest , most conservative schools in the country just a few decades ago

Think agriculture, cows, horses Vets school

I hope they didn’t get that gender fluid all over everything.

This provides some more background information:

https://www.texastribune.org/2025/09/10/texas-am-professor-fired-melissa-mccoul-statement/

McCoul’s attorney Amanda Reichek said the listed reason for termination was that she failed to change her course content to align with the catalog and course descriptions despite numerous instructions to do so. However, Reichek countered that McCoul’s course content was consistent with the descriptions, and she wasn’t instructed to change her course content. She had also been teaching the course for multiple years at that point with no difficulty.

The problem is that University Presidents are political hacks much like Army Officers over O3 level. They try to appease everyone and rarely have a spine to stand up to nonsense.

No tranny ideological nonsense allowed seems pretty clear. If someone can’t understand that prohibition and persists in their attempts to indoctrinate students with tranny ideological nonsense they should be fired as should their department head who didn’t put an end to it and relieve them of teaching assignments. Doubly so for the Dean of their particular College within the University and the University President if they failed to end it. Same for the Board of Trustees if they didn’t act on their obligation to do so.

I attended both Texas A&M and University of Texas. The former has been run mostly by GOPE dopes, while the latter by stoned-out hippies and Khmer Rouge wannabes.

IOW: both suck.

Glenn Loury, according to today’s stream on Kirk and stuff, strongly supports Palestine campus demonstrations. An interesting choice of side. I was thinking he would see through the crap like he did on affirmative action, but he’s only saying it’s reasonable.

I say it’s Jews using the wrong arguments.

Listen from given start time to 1:08:12 if you want to avoid deifying the wrong guy.
Just after that Loury shows he’s an idiot, by the way. Wants Trump to apologize for criticizing the media to bring the country together. So a mixed value guy, extremes both ways.

This going to rile up the antifa trannie terrorists on campus?

If Tranz genders are real (normal) why does it take five bottom and top surgeries. Life altering chemicals, implants, a gender coach, a physiatrist, facial reconstruction surgery and multiple laws created to force the rest of us to accept the end result for what it was intended to be. in virtually all cases the end product is a poor facsimile of a real ugly woman. It just don’t make a lick of sense if you ask me.
