Update, 4:57 pm: Sadly, Charlie Kirk has died from his injuries.
Earlier reporting:
Turning Point USA founder and right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck while delivering a presentation on Wednesday afternoon at Utah Valley University in Orem.
According to NBC News:
Kirk was removed from the premises by his security team, the school said.Videos circulating online appear to show Kirk recoiling after a shot was heard, with blood pouring from his neck.
The New York Times reported:
A university spokeswoman, Ellen Treanor, said that Mr. Kirk was struck about 20 minutes after he began speaking on campus. She said a suspect had fired at Mr. Kirk from the Losee Center, a building about 200 yards away.
While an earlier report from NBC said that a suspect was in custody, an update from the New York Times said that the person they had originally detained was not the gunman.
The university originally said the shooter had been taken into custody. But officials determined that person they had detained — who can be seen in videos posted online — was not the gunman, another spokesman, Scott Trotter, said later, relying on information from the university’s police chief, who was coordinating with other law enforcement agencies.
We are seeing very few reports of Kirk’s condition.
According to The Associated Press, Kirk is in critical condition.
At 3:48, Turning Point posted on X: “Charlie is alive and fighting in hospital. Please join us in praying for him.”
In a 3:30 post on X, Glenn Beck said he’d received word that Kirk had been stabilized.
President Trump lifted up Kirk in a Truth Social post: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”
As Kirk fights for his life, the Left has already begun demonizing him.
MSNBC’s Katy Tur called him “a divisive figure, polarizing, lightning rod. What ever term you want to use.” The left is absolutely VILE!”
