Trump, Zelenskyy Set for Washington Talks Following Putin Meeting
“It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up.”
Yesterday, Legal Insurrection’s Mary Chastain reported that President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met for three hours in Alaska on Friday. While the summit was described as “frank and substantive,” no ceasefire emerged, leaving the path forward unclear. Trump said afterward that “many, many points” had been agreed upon, but “a couple of big ones” were still unresolved. Ukrainian lawmakers reacted skeptically, warning that Putin had “bought himself more time.”
Now, both Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are pointing to Washington as the next stage of negotiations.
Zelenskyy shared the details of a lengthy call with Trump and European leaders, stressing Ukraine’s willingness to engage directly:
We had a long and substantive conversation with @POTUS. We started with one-on-one talks before inviting European leaders to join us. This call lasted for more than an hour and a half, including about an hour of our bilateral conversation with President Trump.

“We had a long and substantive conversation with @POTUS. We started with one-on-one talks before inviting European leaders to join us. This call lasted for more than an hour and a half, including about an hour of our bilateral conversation with President Trump.
Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace. President Trump informed about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of their discussion. It is important that America’s strength has an impact on the development of the situation.
We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this.
On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation.
It is important that Europeans are involved at every stage to ensure reliable security guarantees together with America. We also discussed positive signals from the American side regarding participation in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security. We continue to coordinate our positions with all partners. I thank everyone who is helping.”
Trump echoed those points in his own statement, emphasizing that the goal is a binding peace, not another fragile ceasefire:

“A great and very successful day in Alaska! The meeting with President Vladimir Putin of Russia went very well, as did a late night phone call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, and various European Leaders, including the highly respected Secretary General of NATO. It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up. President Zelenskyy will be coming to D.C., the Oval Office, on Monday afternoon. If all works out, we will then schedule a meeting with President Putin. Potentially, millions of people’s lives will be saved. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
This sets up a dramatic follow-up in Washington. After being left out of the Alaska talks, Zelenskyy will now sit down with Trump in the Oval Office on Monday. If those discussions succeed, Trump said, he will push for a trilateral meeting with Putin. European leaders, meanwhile, are demanding firm security guarantees, Ukraine remains wary of Russian delay tactics, and Putin is trying to frame the talks as progress on his terms. The Washington meeting may be the clearest test yet of whether Trump’s high-risk diplomacy can move the war toward an actual peace.

Peace will come but the left won’t like what that looks like as it will mean Russia keeping the lands it has already captured and the Ukraine having to just sign what ever is put in front of it.
However that will merely reflect reality and what is happening on the ground. Unless the EU and leftists are prepared to put troops on the ground then this is the way the Ukraine can expect.
This is my problem. There is no point in fighting a proxy war that you can’t and won’t win (especially with all of the p**yfooting and corrupt siphoning of resources).
If any of these crybabies care that much about Ukraine and getting back the taken lands then put troops directly to it and end this that way. If not, shut the eff up.
the agreement will be total capitulation to Putin. he keeps the land, no NATO membership for Ukraine and removal of sanctions on countries that buy Russian oil. thus Putin can take a break before a rinse and repeat
It’s the double standard on display from leftists that tells us more about them than they realise.
People like MarkS get all wet and moist over an enforced peace on Israel to stop the wat Hamas started and of course these hot and moist leftists NEVER say that peace is a total capitulation to Hamas do they? Of course they don’t.
Ukrainians, naw they get to keep dying for a lost cause. But Gazans who started this entire war with Israel. Oh no, they must be protected at all cost.
It is illegal to write “yy” in English. ILLEGAL!!! Subject to punishment of 5 to 15 years at hard labor writing “There is no such thing as ‘yy’ in English” on a chalk board.
Why do people keep doing this?
The name “Volodymyr Zelenskyy” is often spelled this way, with the first “y” representing и and the second representing й.
Some names or words might be spelled with “iy” (e.g., Zelenskiy) to show the separate letters, but “yy” is a common alternative.
That’s not English. You don’t write anything that way in English. It’s just “y”.
If you started writing every foreign name like this it would be crazy and ridiculous. The stupid “Ng” junk from Vietnam is bad enough. Whoever thought of that should be shot.
The people on this site triggered by ordinary, non-woke language mechanics always amaze me.
There is always more to it than just being triggered. For people where the truth matters then it becomes a natural reaction to push back against the lefts woke changes to language that does nothing more than bastardises the language and forces everyone else to use only the words and only in the ways that the left determines is “safe” and “culturally appropriate” for the class you come from (that is also determined by the left).
“triggered”??
Do you not understand how language works? You don’t demand that other languages pronounce your words the way that you do. They pronounce things differently and in their language you adapt to their rules. People in the West who are happy to try and force Americans to adapt to foreign pronunciations (and that’s not even the case here as it’s just idiotic spelling that makes no sense, at all, and serves no purpose other than a demonstration of cultural “power” over us rubes) are idiots who make moronic rules on an ad hoc basis.
It’s like the morons who like to say “Latinx”. Well, fine. But what about the rest of the language? Spanish is completely gendered. If they think they are going to degender Spanish then they have an entire language to work on, including all new conjugations and everything. But that’s not what they want – because it’s retarded. They just want to say “latinx” to virtue signal to their fellow morons.
There is absolutely no reason to write “yy” in English. NONE. It’s not offensive (my original comment was mostly joking – I thought the part about prison at hard labor made that pretty clear – but it is an attempt to demonstrate some sort of cultural superiority over English to write such stupidity. And those who parrot it are also responsible.
Take a look at all the foreign languages and all the ways that their names and labels are pronounced and written (in whatever alphabet) and imagine if they all started trying to force that on all English writing and speaking. It’s silly and completely unworkable.
Personally, I generally write it “Zelenskyyiy”.
BTW, I’ll give you an interesting example about how stupid that all is – the word in English for “Jewish” is written using a phoneme that does not even exist in Hebrew. There is no “J” sound in Hebrew. The word is actually “Yehudit” (or “Jerusalem” is actually “Yerushalai’eem”) both written in English using phonemes that native Hebrew speakers cannot pronounce natively, even though English speakers would have no problem pronouncing the names as they actually exist. But does anyone complain about that? No. Because it’s English and we can call anything anything we want.
I am tired of dipsh*ts abusing English for their own petty little power plays. You should be, too. It’s our language, not theirs.
Two plates of Peking Duck for the Siamese twins at table 6.
Apparently whether you personally like it or not it’s the way Zelenskyy himself prefers to have his name spelled when transliterated from the Cyrillic (Зеленський) to the Latin system (Zelenskyy) of language.
But many places simply spell it “Zelensky” with a single “y” as there are significantly more search engine hits for that spelling (the incorrect one) than there are for “Zelenskyy” with two “y”.
But good job at trolling the comment section with a totally irrelevant topic.

Why how you spell the Ukrainian President’s last name really matters
LOL.
Transliteration is based on sound – writing phonetically in another alphabet the so that a native reader can pronounce it as close as possible to how it is pronounced in its own language, not letter by letter.
Why do I care how Zelenskyyiy writes it? What if he decided to write his name Hjjhshduiyet and demanded that you pronounce it “zelensky”??
Give me a friggin break.
Whether Zelensky likes it or not, America is done with this farce.
Ukraine has zero chance of taking any of their territory back unless one of two things happens:
1) A LARGE number of NATO troops (meaning US troops) goes to fight Russia and take it back for them
2) The EU actually backs up their ‘Slava Ukraine’ crap and stops buying a $trillion of Russian oil/gas to cripple their economy.
Neither of those things is going to happen, so we are done with this ‘Putin bad, send more money with no accountability’ farce.
Ukraine has zero chance of ending the war if one of two things happens:
1. Zelensky pulls some of his usual crap and throws a monkey wrench into the works
2. Zelensky has pipe dreams of getting territory back and refuses to negotiate
This all started basically under Obozo; I believe Putin took Crimea in 2014 and Obozo did relatively nothing. Putin invaded Ukraine under Biteme who like that clean, nice smelling black guy did relatively nothing. The lesson for all dictators is to go for a land invasion when the democraps are in power.
Look to see if he wears a suit.
If he wears a suit, you’ll know he’s serious.
If he shows up wearing anything other than a suit, he can go weed the garden.
Our president, Donald Trump, is an utter disgrace and an embarrassment to our country. He was played like a chump by a war criminal, and will go down in history with a seat next to Neville Chamberlain. Ronald Reagan is spinning in his grave. The reason why LI doesn’t post much about this world event is that the authors of this rag know, deep down, that I am right about this. On top of everything else, what a pathetic amateur this president is when it comes to foreign affairs – the primary responsibility of the President. This meeting resulted in nothing more than a propaganda victory for Putin, in that he was allowed to speak directly to the American people using reasonable sounding themes (we’re neighbors, we used to work together), leaving aside the fact that he kills civilians on a daily basis, kidnapped children, the list goes on and on and on. And you dullards commenting here swallow it like baby birds being fed by their mama.
The Pakistani boiler rooms are kicking back into action! The last dimes of USAID money still making their way through the system, I guess.
You’ll eat your words when Trump pulls out his magic plan to end the war, and it works — he’s going to offer Putin California.
Our country? You must be from a foreign land because that is not the mood in the United States.
Or perhaps you were one of the dullards impressed by Obama’s sharp creases and fundamental transformations. History will clear show that it was Obama that coddled and emboldened enemies of the United States (he was one of them) and it was Trump that forced warring parties to the negotiating table. A peace deal in Ukraine will be, what, number eight?
Personally, I think that Zelensky is done. Monday, he will be given an offer he cannot refuse else he will quickly find himself being prosecuted for laundering money back to politicians in Washington.
Ukraine was never a national security imperative for the United States. I’m saddened that war came to that deeply corrupt part of the world but there is nothing there that is worth a hair on the head of the greenest buck private or a single dollar of my money.
I hear Biden called and wants to be at the Monday meeting. He wants to know why all that Burisma money stopped going to Hunter …. and of course, the “big guy” is missing his 10%!
I somewhat agree. after every meeting that Trump has had with Putin he looks like a man that has had his balls handed to him
Sigh.
Let’s say Trump does what you want and tells Putin he has to give Ukraine everything Ukraine wants. And Putin says no. Then what happens?
We deploy troops? We nuke Russia? The EU will…do what exactly?
I’m curious what you think will happen in your delusional view of the world.
