Texas Democrats Returning for Second Special Session

Texas Democrats Returning for Second Special Session

Texas Senate Republicans passed a new congressional map. The House must pass it before it hits Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk.

Texas Democrats will return to the state after fleeing to Illinois to evade their duties over redistricting.

Who knows when it will happen? From ABC 13:

After our initial reporting online and on television, a spokesperson for the Texas Democratic Caucus sent the following statement to ABC News:

“Members are still assessing their strategies going forward and are in a private meeting to make decisions about future plans currently,” he wrote. “If and when Texas House Democrats breaking quorum decide to go home is squarely dependent on the actions the Governor, Speaker, and Texas Republicans in charge make with regard to prioritizing flood victims over redistricting that hurts Texans.”

Their hissy fit hit the national news. California Gov. Gavin Newsom leeched onto them to keep his name in the news, too. *eye roll*

Texas Senate Republicans passed a new congressional map. The House must pass it before it hits Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk.

Abbott plans to “call a second consecutive special session.”

Texas Democrats pulled the same stunt in 2021. They have a habit of acting like toddlers when they don’t get their way.

The TX d/prog temper tantrum won’t work long-term. They gonna come back whether today or some point in the future. When they do they’ll be rounded up and sent to the State House to perform their DIY or they’ll do it voluntarily or they’ll eventually be removed from office. In any event the successive Special Sessions being called will achieve the legislative purpose for calling them to include redistricting.

So for all the grandstanding “breaking quorum” has turned out to be one big nothing burger and in the end and Texas democrats are going to return to Texas with their tails between their legs and do the job for which they were elected. But at least now they can claim they attempted to save democracy from the evil machinations of Texas House Republicans. That’s got to count for something, right? Right?!??

I’m glad the “Flee Circus” clowns are returning.

Oh, it’s not over. The Dems are ‘demanding’ the disaster relief be debated before the redistricting or they won’t come back. And I’d bet a dollar that if they cave in on that point, the disaster relief will either be debated until the end of session “Gee, that’s too bad. We have no time to complete any other business.” or the millisecond it is passed, they’ll zip out of the state again, since the disaster relief is the only public lever they’re been flogged on for this betrayal of their office.

Present a generous relief for flood victims (which all Texans are probably good with) and then get to it on redistricting. The Sargent of Arms and Texas Rangers can make sure the Texas Democrats don’t don dresses and try to flee like Santa Ana did back in the day.

Losers don’t get to write the terms of surrender.

There functionally is no “end of session”. Texas law allows the governor to call continuous 30-day special sessions. Forever. He’ll keep them in session until they capitulate from fatigue – or get lynched.

Gotta be hard after 100 years of doing what you want to suddenly be on the short end. If you don’t show up you lose you cushy gig and if you do show up you watch your power decrease.

destroycommunism | August 13, 2025 at 10:34 am

dems: all black districts must remain alll black

however any all white districts are racist

destroycommunism | August 13, 2025 at 10:43 am

so why DO WE ALWAYS GIVE IN TO THE LEFT???

why is it that no matter what they continue to get their ways

well they have the backing of the schools so that offers future support from the children who ,,according to the left,, we must treat as both adults but not punish when needed

then of course the media propaganda

so why not pull the money plug,,,GOP while we have the chance,,,NO COMPROMISE

states get what???20+% of their “budgets” from the feds which means taxpayers subsidize policies that do in fact ( via the courts) affect regions where you dont live……

so Texans cant escape CA rules etc

The only thing this stunt has accomplished is costing taxpayers over a million dollars.

I’ll be interesting to see if the Governor and AG follow through with the fines and the lawsuit to remove 13 members.

If they are back then there is virtually no chance of getting them removed. A better bet would be to pass legislation to allow sessions to progress in the future without a quorum of members purposely flee the state with the intent of stopping sessions by not being present and also allowing for members to be removed from office if they do that kind of shit in the future.

Milhouse in reply to mailman. | August 13, 2025 at 10:21 pm

That would take a constitutional amendment, which would require those same Democrats to support it. Obviously they’re not going to support an amendment aimed at them!

They can still collect the fines for the days they were absent, but even if the TX courts do accept the theory that they can remove a member who genuinely abandons his seat, there’s no possible way to show that these people have abandoned theirs. They clearly haven’t, as evidenced by the mere fact that they’re back and voting. So removal is a nonstarter.

They haven’t shown up yet so removal from their seats continues in the court. The thing that is really getting them back is Paxton getting their Neto Bucks shut off and the legislature requiring paychecks be picked up in person.

This was a perfect opportunity to put dramacrat legislative faces on milk cartoons and billboards underlined with MISSING in big bold letters.

School back in session for the kindergarten party?

The Dems have no character or morals. They can try and demand anything they want, Abbott has already laughed at them over that, but what is getting them back is greed. Their money is shut off.
