Teamsters Donating to Republicans Ahead of Midterms in Shift Away From Democrats
“For the second year in a row, the labor union’s political arm donated to the Republicans’ House campaign arm after nearly two decades of mostly backing Democrats.”
The Teamsters union seems to be changing teams. While they have historically been aligned with the Democratic Party, the union is donating cash to Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterms, indicating a significant shift.
Just recently, Teamsters President Sean O’Brien painted a rather unflattering picture of how they were treated by the Kamala Harris campaign last fall. That may have been an early indicator of what we’re seeing now.
Politico reports:
Teamsters pour money into GOP, shifting away from Dems
It wasn’t just 2024: the Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien is signaling a more permanent realignment by donating to battleground Republicans in the upcoming midterms.
For the second year in a row, the labor union’s political arm donated to the Republicans’ House campaign arm after nearly two decades of mostly backing Democrats. The labor union’s D.R.I.V.E political action committee — Democrat, Republican, Independent Voter Education — gave the National Republican Congressional Committee $5,000 in the second quarter.
In addition to giving to the NRCC, Teamsters doled out a combined $62,000 in contributions to nearly two-dozen GOP congressional candidates, including in significant battleground districts:
- Rob Bresnahan, Mike Kelly and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania
- Pete Stauber and Tom Emmer of Minnesota
- Nicole Malliotakis, Andrew Garbarino, Nick LaLota and Mike Lawler of New York
- Jefferson Shreve of Indiana
- Dave Taylor, Bob Latta, Michael Rulli and Dave Joyce of Ohio
- Jeff Van Drew and Chris Smith of New Jersey
- David Rouzer of North Carolina
- Tom Barrett of Michigan
- Blake Moore of Utah
- Darin LaHood and Mike Bost of Illinois
- Troy Nehls of Texas
- Vern Buchanan of Florida
The group also gave this year to GOP Sens. Deb Fischer of Nebraska, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Jon Husted of Ohio, and Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania.
This shift is based on both culture and economics. Your average truck driver looks at the Democratic Party and hears them talking about protecting illegal immigrants and transgender medical procedures for children. The same driver hears Trump and Republicans talking about preserving American jobs. It’s easy to see which side is going to appeal to such a person.
The issue was discussed yesterday on the FOX Business Network. Take a look below:
When Democrats are not busy defending illegal immigrants, transgender policies, or criminals, they’re focused solely on attacking Trump. Is there any wonder why working class voters are increasingly warming up to the Republican Party?

Working class has been leaning Republican for years.
The last 4 years they saw the Democrats go LUNATIC INSANE with spending and saw them just boldly lying about inflation and grocery prices.
Great. So, the racketeers are buying a new party.
Campaign contributions are usually not buying anything. There’s a risk that they can be, but most of the time they’re exactly what they’re supposed to be: You find candidates who are already on your side, and give them what they need to persuade people to vote for them. That’s not bribery and not corrupt at all, it’s exactly as it should be.
It’s rare that campaign contributions are used to bribe a candidate who is against you to change their mind. Usually, if a candidate is against you, and it looks like they’re going to win with or without your help, you try to change their mind first, and only give them money if you think you were successful. Which is again as it should be.
exactly
lol
Republicans, sure… but are there any (proven) MAGAs on that list of donations?
And then again, there’s Murkowski…
Most of the aforementioned House members are unknown to me. Blake Moore, from Utah’s 1st Congressional district, which was won by Trump by 20+ points, is about as worthless as you can get as a Republican House member. He voted to keep Liz Cheney in her leadership role and was one of a few dozen Republicans who voted to codify same sex marriage. He also voted against Impeaching Mayorkas and just this week, he’s been all over the media complaining about Texas Republicans redrawing their congressional districts. He’s a former State Department employee and ‘consultant’ who decided to run for Congress. Whatever money he gets from the Teamsters, he’ll use to repell primary challengers. He had no less than two in the last cycle. I’d wager there are a lot more Blake Moores on that list, if you look at their voting history.
Who is, and always has been, a democrat.
These are some of the worst ‘Republicans’ in the House caucus and many of them are in solidly red districts.
trump brings back jobs to america that the union pushed out with their socialist system of “fairness”
The strikes of decades ago have scars that never really healed.
its disgusting how easily it is to destroy civility …but lefty knows how to do so
Mostly backing Democrats is very generous. I worked in that Union for years and it was hard not to find liberal communist symbols everywhere
Oh, hurray.
Collectivists are supporting anti-collectivists.
Keep your filthy union money.. Stop stealing the money that working people produce.
Stop unions. End unions. Imprison union organizers.
The Teamsters have finally came to their senses and proved they’re not completely stupid sheep.
Took you all long enough.
they play hardball
28 yr member remembers Teamsters endorsing Reagan. Carter deregulated trucking and unions were pissed.
