Muslim civil rights group designates UC Berkeley as a ‘hostile campus’

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a prominent Muslim civil rights group, on Tuesday said it was designating UC Berkeley as a “hostile campus” for Muslim, Arab and Palestinian students and faculty who criticize Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

Zahra Billoo, the executive director of the council’s San Francisco Bay Area chapter, said in a statement that UC Berkeley “cannot claim a free-speech legacy while students are intimidated, surveilled, or punished for speaking about Palestinian freedom.”

“The university must end selective enforcement, investigate misconduct, and ensure Palestinian, Muslim, and allied students can learn and speak without fear,” Billoo added.

In a statement Tuesday, UC Berkeley said it is committed both to free speech and to confronting discrimination.

“The campus is dedicated to supporting a community where all can thrive and feel a true sense of belonging without regard for their identities, origins, or beliefs. Berkeley’s leadership works closely with the members of the campus’s Advisory Committee on Muslim and Palestinian Student Life in order to understand and address those communities’ needs and interests,” the campus added.

During the spring 2024 term, Berkeley was among the many campuses where pro-Palestinian protesters erected an encampment and demanded that the campus divest from companies tied to Israel and its war in Gaza, including weapons manufacturers. During that same semester, some Jewish students also reported feeling unsafe, including after pro-Palestinian protesters disrupted an event featuring an Israeli speaker that was organized by pro-Israel student groups.

Berkeley was one of the few campuses where protesters and administrators reached a deal, and the encampment was dismantled. Then-Chancellor Carol Christ did not commit to divestment but agreed to create a task force to review Berkeley’s investments. In December, the task force decided not to recommend that the Berkeley Endowment Management Company, which manages the campus endowment, divest from weapons manufacturers, according to The Daily Californian.

good move cair

throw that guilt on them so like all whiteys they have to “prove” how unracist they are and give you want you want

Punch; no punchback!

Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that CAIR is a radical anti-American, anti-western culture enemy. Its leadership and most of its proponents should be rounded up and shown the door. BTW, is Ibrahim Hooper still around? He should be arrested as a subversive conspiring to overthrow the United States.

Billoo can always go on a hunger strike.

CAIR is a subversive organization and, like the Muslims, Islamists it represents, is incompatible with western civilization. It should have no say on campus in light of it’s past activities.

CAIR is flailing. Not even berkeley cares (pun intended) anymore?
