R.I.P. – Conservative Blogger Jeff Dunetz of ‘The Lid’ Passes Away at 67
“Dunetz was one of the early blogging leaders and commentators when the world of center-right blogging really caught fire in the early part of the 2010s.”
Jeff Dunetz, who wrote for his own blog ‘The Lid’ as well as numerous other outlets including Hot Air and Breitbart, has passed away at the age of 67. Dunetz was part of the class of old-school conservative bloggers who emerged in the early 2000s. I first heard the news of his passing from Robert Stacy McCain, a member of the same blogger class.
Just now informed that longtime conservative blogger Jeff Dunetz (@DunetzJeff) has passed away.

I met Jeff once at CPAC, I think in 2015, and found him to be a very nice man. I also knew his work well. He was a talented writer who tended to focus on politics, but was perfectly capable of writing about pretty much anything.
Warner Todd Houston of Breitbart, who also worked with Jeff at The Lid, posted an obituary there:
On the Passing of Our Host Jeff Dunetz
Jeff Dunetz, the creator and operator of LidBlog, passed away on Thursday, July 24.
Dunetz passed after a series of medical issues that have struck him over the last year. He was 67 years of age.
Jeff, a life-long New Yorker, was a man of good humor and even temperament and even during his late illnesses and health scares, he was always upbeat and ever ready with a quip or two, ofen at his own expense.
A graduate of Oceanside High School in Oceanside, New York, Jeff studied political science and government at the State University of New York at Oswego, then went on to earn a BA in political science at the University of Albany, and later an MBA in business at Hofstra University.
Jeff spent much of his professional life in magazine marketing and advertising working for such companies as Disney Publishing, Nickelodeon, Discover Magazine, MTV, and Marvel Comics.
But it was blogging and commentary on current events that was Jeff’s real passion. Dunetz was one of the early blogging leaders and commentators when the world of center-right blogging really caught fire in the early part of the 2010s. And by 2013 he had formally started the LidBlog to deliver news and views on U.S. and Israeli politics and history. And in doing so, Jeff became one of the leading self-made bloggers appearing on TV, Radio, Podcasts, and the Internet throughout the media.
Ed Morrissey of Hot Air knew Dunetz well and wrote of his passing:
Jeff and I had a close friendship for the past twenty years, often conspiring to meet up at events and having regular phone and WhatsApp chats. Jeff had a way of always brightening my life, and maybe had a second sense for when I was struggling a bit. Our last conversations were about his new grandson Benjamin, and about how neither of us had been to a Coldplay concert.
How do I sum up all that Jeff meant to me? Like with Jazz Shaw, it’s simply not possible. Jeff was more like an older brother to me, and even as I type that, I can hear his voice saying, “Who’re you calling ‘older’?” He had a great sense of humor, but that could only momentarily obscure his whip-smart mind and his huge heart. We knew we could talk about anything and joke around with each other in a loving sense about most of the world. He was a great sounding board for me, and a great resource on the issues that mattered most to him — his love of America, Israel, and liberty.
He was a lovely, lovely man, and a great friend.
Jeff is also being remembered by various people on Twitter/X:

This is terrible news. RIP. I liked Jeff very much. He was a very good blogger.
RIP
Lets honor the memory of this Jewish Conservative by keeping the right free of neo-Nazis such as Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson and safe for people who instead of loving Holocaust Denial love America and feel that entering as liberators instead of conquerors was America’s finest hour.
What is right now a fringe could become dominant in 20 years. If you wish to platform anti-American propaganda by denying the Holocaust (are we actually justified in WW2 if Hitler was a good guy?) lying about America’s decision to drop the atomic bombs to cast America as villain, (The Japanese Imperial Army itself estimated 10 million civilian deaths following the invasion before fighting on the main island even started), claim aliens are being kept secret by the U.S. Federal Government etc etc you are free to do it in another movement and party.
Am I correct that his nic was Yid with a Lid? If I’m wrong, please know that I mean no disrespect.
I believe you are correct. It was his self-moniker.
Thanks! We exchanged posts several times back in the early 2000s.
I regret I’m not familiar with his work. Which is odd because hotair is on my list.
Legacy media is dead to me. Thanks to Elon, I’ve recently jumped back on X as a lurker and have been trying to follow as many credible sources as I can, so bummed I didn’t get to follow him on either platform. FWIW Katie Daviscourt and a few others in Andy Ngo’s crew have been murdering Antifa with coverage.
Always loved his explanation of various Jewish holidays.
