Penn State Board of Trustees Approves Tuition Hike
“Some of the trustees said they support the tuition increase as it will allow the university to give raises to faculty.”
Schools facing cash crunches need to find ways to reduce costs. Watch more and more of them raise tuition instead.
WTAJ News reports:
Penn State Trustees approve tuition hike for main campus students
Penn State Board of Trustees voted Friday on the proposed university budget for the 2026-’27 school year.
That budget included tuition hikes, an increase to the cost of housing and raises for faculty.
In-state undergraduate students at Commonwealth Campuses will not see a tuition increase for the ’26-’27 school year. This is the fourth year Commonwealth Campus tuition rates have been frozen for Pennsylvania students. But those studying at University Park could see a small hike.
The Trustees approved a 2% increase for in-state students at the main campus. This will be an increase of about $200 a semester, bringing the per-credit cost to $870. Out-of-state students will see a tuition increase of 1% at Commonwealth Campuses and 4% at Penn State Main.
The housing and food rate at University Park is also being bumped up by 2.85%, or $198 per semester.
Some of the trustees said they support the tuition increase as it will allow the university to give raises to faculty. The budget plans to set aside a 3% pool for merit-based salary increases, but trustees said those increases could be higher or lower, depending on performance factors.
The budget also allocated millions of dollars for the acquisition of a former fraternity house.

If the schools would just cut the number of unnecessary admin, they might not have to raise tuition
just another way to get back at trump

Were there no tuition, the value of a Penn State degree would still remain worthless to anyone outside of the Pennsylvania employment system.
The Commonwealth remains a self perpetuating socialist enclave that can only be meaningful as an extension of the State, itself. Just another diploma factory.
What is your basis for making that statement?
“Some of the trustees said they support the tuition increase as it will allow the university to give raises to faculty.”
Ha ha ha! That old scam!
Like supporting state lotteries because the money will go to schools!
