Minneapolis has Its Own Socialist Mayoral Candidate: Omar Fateh

Minneapolis has Its Own Socialist Mayoral Candidate: Omar Fateh

Fateh is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Minnesota State Senator Omar Fateh introduced himself to the world on X as a Democratic mayoral candidate for Minneapolis.

Fateh’s platform mirrors Zohran Mamdani, the socialist candidate for New York City mayor.

Yes, Minneapolis might get its own socialist mayor. Fateh is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. From his video:

I’m ready to work hard to one, build a Minneapolis that working people can afford to call home. Two, protect our city from a hostile White House, and three, diversify our city’s public safety.

By increasing the minimum wage to $20 by 2028 and passing rent stabilization to stop price gouging and incentivizing new construction, we can protect workers.

Protecting all of our communities from Donald Trump is not letting MPD interact with ICE, whether it’s for an immigration raid or not. Our residents deserve a mayor that will stand up to Donald Trump and say, “No, not in our community.”

Did you know that the city’s own data showed that 47% of calls to MPD can be diverted to non police response? Cops aren’t social workers. Investments in programs like these ensure that the appropriate response arrives when we call 911 and we can actually free up resources to focus on violent crime that detracts from community safety.

Fateh left out a few things from his platform.

The mayoral hopeful wants to make sure Minneapolis funds and prioritizes events like the Trans Equity Summit.

Speaking of trans, Fateh wants to make Minneapolis a “safe-haven” for abortions and “gender-affirming care.” He even described those as essential healthcare services.

Ah, yes. The city’s revenue: “Lobby the State of Minnesota to allow the City of Minneapolis to institute a local option income tax to ensure the wealthy pay their fair share.”

Minneapolis has many socialists in its government, especially through the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party.

Three socialists won seats on the Minneapolis City Council in 2021.

In case you’re wondering, yes, Fateh admires Mamdani.

Fateh celebrated Mamdani’s primary win by promoting himself for Minneapolis mayor.

Comments

At first blush he appears to have a room temperature IQ (ok, maybe a walk-in freezer) but we don’t judge books based upon their covers, right? So let’s turn to what he says:

“By increasing the minimum wage to $20 by 2028 and passing rent stabilization to stop price gouging and incentivizing new construction, we can protect workers.”

If by “protect workers” he means protecting them from having any work to do then he’s absolutely correct. Each point of his statement abounds in economic illiteracy.

If he’s elected, you’d be well advised to stay well away from Minneapolis. (Not that you’re not already.)

Immigration is a critical issue and we should ALL be grateful we have Trump right now to cut of the spigot of the socialist “enrichment”.

“Together, we can move Minneapolis…”

My first thought was, “That solves that problem.”

The problem was I thought he was talking to Zohran Mamdani and said “Together, we can move to Minneapolis…”

Oh well.

Is every major American city going to have their very own mooslim socialist now?

It used to bother me that Garrison Keillor made all that money belittling the descendants of the Scandinavians that settled what is now Minneapolis. Now, I am not bothered at all. The people brought all this on themselves.

And with the help of our media and the Democrats the phrase, “not with a bang, but with a whimper” will become applicable to our poor country.

Mogadishu is such a vibrant, diverse city teeming with liberty and prosperity that I’m sure Minnesota’s emerging Somali majority will work the same magic in Minneapolis that they did in Xamar (what the locals call Mogadishu…when they’re not high AF on Khat and stoning women to death).

I’ve been all over this planet. There is no place I’ve been that was more objectively dysfunctional than Somalia…although Haiti really, really tries.

What about Somaliland? I’ve heard conflicting things about how well it functions. Have you been there, and if so how did you find it?

“Democratic Socialists of America” seems to mean a National Socialist movement that has eaten the Democratic Party and are wearing their pelt.

Good Lord, this is the city in which Mary Tyler Moore, every man’s ideal of a perfect sweetheart, plied her fictional reporting trade. It is as if I were teleported to a savage, twin planet in some confused space-time warp. It makes we want to weep.

Don’t know how old you are, but I’m 68. The America that I knew is gone.

When I was a kid, my father bought me a pump action 22 caliber Crossman pellet gun, model 1400.
Very nice weapon for a kid and it wasn’t a toy. Single action, wood stock and I even put a scope on it. Looked like any other hunting rifle.

When I came home from school, I threw my books on the table, grabbed my rifle and went target practicing at a local abandoned junk yard.

Had to walk down the main drag to get there. I had already been to an NRA safe hunter program, so I knew how to handle a weapon. Every once in a while a cruiser would drive by on my way to the junkyard. The cops would give me a quick look and so long as I wasn’t pointing it at traffic or swinging it by the barrel, they left me alone and didn’t bother with me.

I did that almost every day for years.

No one ever bothered me. Not the cops, my neighbors…. No one. Ever.

That was in a small town in Massachusetts.

Imagine some kid doing that today…

I’m 68 as well. Grew up in Pawtucket, RI. Had a Crossman 760 (.177 caliber/BB), with a Weaver 4X scope. It could shoot a very nasty metal dart (that had to be loaded one at a time). I used to shoot it in the backyard of my tenement home, in a built up residential area. I had to ride my bike about four miles to get to a friend’s house that was on the edge of a natural area. I used to carry my Crossman while riding. Same here – nobody ever said boo.

I had one of those too, growing up. Great tool to learn good shooting habits, and deadly to nuisance crows and groundhogs if you were using the .177 pellets.

I’m 5 years younger than you, also from Massachusetts and did the same without any problems. Except I used a Marlin .22 at the dump.

Today, a SWAT team would be called on us.

xleatherneck in reply to Tsquared. | July 14, 2025 at 8:50 pm

    I remember those darts.
I used to buy the darts, along with the pellets, at my local hardware store, not far from my house
    .

Didn’t need a license, nor permit, and there was no age required, at least that I knew of.

I know things tend to change, from one generation to the other, but sometimes I think that our generation was the last to experience true freedoms..

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to xleatherneck. | July 15, 2025 at 3:14 pm

The assassinations in the 1960s along with the panic-caused 1968 firearms act really changed the landscape on firearms purchases. I recall firearms for sale in hardware stores in Los Angeles.

I also recall that one could go to the police department and buy surplus or obsolete firearms from them. My mother had one of those S&W .38 Police Special 5-shooters that was loaded by hingeing the thing open.

Did it mention his top qualification? If he is a Muslim he will fit right in with Tampon Tim and the jihad he is running. I’ve mentioned it before when we were talking about large cities but when the foreigners and lower classes reach a certain point, the city is lost to reason and common sense. Remember when Rudy cleaned up NYC? No one could do that today because the inmates now run the city and they don’t care if it becomes a third world sh*thole. All big cities are run by leftists and they all have the same loser programs. As their tax base leaves in droves, services collapse and the homeless/criminals takeover the streets.

I’m just going to go ahead and say this. This guy looks like Skullface —-scary!

How many white single educated women (THE growing domestic threat to the Republic) will vote for him?
