Student Speaker at MIT Uses Graduation Speech to Bash Israel
“You showed the world that MIT wants a free Palestine”
This is just so tiresome. These people really believe that they’re the good guys.

Student speaker accuses Israel of ‘genocide’ at MIT graduation
Clad in a red keffiyeh, Megha Vemuri, president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s class of 2025, addressed graduates at the school’s commencement on Thursday.
“You showed the world that MIT wants a free Palestine,” she said.
“It is no secret that at this time, academic institutions across the country are shrouded in a dark cloud of uncertainty,” she said. “The question of what will happen next echoes in our minds, and there is a lot of fear in many of our hearts.”
Vemuri told graduates, to some applause, that “last spring, MIT’s undergraduate body and graduate student union voted overwhelmingly to cut ties with the genocidal Israeli military.”
“You called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and you stood in solidarity with the pro-Palestine activists on campus. You faced threats, intimidation and suppression coming from all directions, especially your own university officials, but you prevailed,” she said. “Because the MIT community that I know would never tolerate a genocide.”

I am curious whether the woman:
Shared her actual speech with MIT and MIT approved it, or
Deceived MIT with a “milk toast” version of her speech.
Yes, and there should be consequences, either for the speaker, or for the administration, depending on the answer to this question.
Coverage from the Indian press appropriately trashes her. One of the last X links shows Sally Kornbluth right after, not really in control of the situation. She doesn’t look good.

She would have done better to apologize to the class and explain that that speech is not what she was expecting, but that would have p’ed off people she obviously cares about. Or, maybe she approved it!?
I doubt she approved it, because the speaker got a little twinkle in her eye when she launched into her off topic screed. Like “I’ve got this moment and I’m going to use it!”
MIT has a sequence of graduation events this week, and Ms. Vemuri has been barred from attending a future event for her own graduation, although presumably she will still receive her degree. MIT has done a lot to right the ship, and Vemuri was admitted under the previous president who was a disaster.
Does she understand the conflicts between Hindus and Muslims? Does she think she’s being neutral or fearful for a reason?
She was born in Georgia, the state not the country.
Okay where is she going next. What grad school accepted her or what company hired her. Time to pressure them.

Considering the rate this is happening why are the Universities not installing a kill switch on the microphones held by the university presidents? Then if the student terrorist lover goes off the rails and the mic is not cut we know who to blame.
