SPLC Labels Turning Point USA a Hate Group

SPLC Labels Turning Point USA a Hate Group

The SPLC is making it clear—oppose their politics, and they’ll try to erase you.

In case you missed it, the Southern Poverty Law Center added Turning Points USA to its “hate map.” Yes, the same map that includes neo-Nazi cells and Klan chapters.

This isn’t satire.

In the SPLC’s “Year in Hate and Extremism” report, released with the 2024 version of the “hate map,” the SPLC describes Turning Point USA as “a well-funded, hard-right organization with links to Southern Poverty Law Center-identified hard-right extremists and a tremendous amount of influence in conservative politics.”

Translation: If you question government power or oppose progressive ideology, the SPLC now considers you hateful.

Let’s remember who we’re talking about. TPUSA is one of the biggest conservative youth organizations in the country. It has chapters on campuses nationwide and advocates for limited government, free markets, and constitutional rights. But none of that matters:

“Turning Point USA’s primary strategy is sowing and exploiting fear that white Christian supremacy is under attack by nefarious actors, including immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community and civil rights activists,” SPLC argued. “TPUSA and its spokespeople often warn their audience that their children, wives, religion, way of life and they themselves are under attack by various constructed enemies. TPUSA exploits complicated feelings of insecurity and anxiety to manufacture rage and mobilize support to revive and maintain a white-dominated, male supremacist, Christian social order.”

Notice what’s missing? Any actual violence, incitement, or criminal activity. What the SPLC is condemning is wrongthink.

The SPLC went on to accuse TPUSA of positioning Christianity as “superior and dominant” while “orchestrating myths of religious persecution.” The group said that TPUSA uses this framing to “justify its extreme, authoritarian vision for the country that threatens the foundation of our democracy.”

This is a political hit job dressed up in civil rights language. The SPLC knows what these labels do: they get you deplatformed, demonetized, and banned. That’s the point.

While the SPLC claims these groups demonize LGBTQ people, the groups claim the SPLC targets them because they oppose its agenda on political issues.

Over at The Daily Signal, they are not wrong. The SPLC has a long list of mistruths and inaccurate “Hate Watch” studies, which have led to multiple apologies and defamation lawsuits. The SPLC’s “hate map” has long been a blacklist, not a watchdog report. We here at Legal Insurrection have covered this blacklisting extensively:

Bottom line: this isn’t about hate. It’s about power. The SPLC is making it clear—oppose their politics, and they’ll try to erase you.

Ah, Turning Point is making leftist heads explode, I see! I have been watching the Charlie Kirk clips.on YT. He is very talented. Keep up the good work!

I have recently watched a number of Charlie Kirk videos. He does an outstanding job of presenting Christian and Western Civilization arguments to leftist students and professors at his campus events.

I hope that he and like minded individuals and organizations will amplify this issue and fully expose the Southern Poverty Law Center for the left wing extremist hate group that it truly is.

Milhouse in reply to Mauiobserver. | May 26, 2025 at 1:33 am

It was exposed years ago. Anyone who isn’t already aware of its true nature is impervious to any further exposure.

Mauiobserver in reply to Milhouse. | May 26, 2025 at 2:56 pm

Those of us who read blogs like this and some of the nonlegacy news sites are most certainly aware.

However, there is a big chunk of this population that gets their news from the legacy media. If conservative politician, pod hosts and media figure expose SPLC the legacy media will almost certainly rally to defend them which at least will prompt further exposure and debate. Perhaps a spotlight on them will lead to some positive outcomes. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

The time is ripe.for a nice defamation lawsuit….

ahad haamoratsim in reply to OwenKellogg-Engineer. | May 26, 2025 at 8:45 am

Was thinking the same thing. The defense would probably be that this is a statement of opinion rather than fact.

Milhouse in reply to ahad haamoratsim. | May 26, 2025 at 10:18 am

It is. And that is a perfect defense. There is no objective definition of what kind of speech is “hateful”. Nor is there any law for which it matters. The only way an organization could sue would be if they made factual claims about it, which turned out not to be true. That’s what happened in the Oberlin case; had Oberlin stuck to simply calling the Gibsons racist there would have been no case.

henrybowman in reply to ahad haamoratsim. | May 26, 2025 at 6:50 pm

But when a government agency or a major commercial enterprise relies on SPLC lists as if they contained any factual content at all, lawsuits need to fly fast and furiously.

The SPLC needs to give out free 9v batteries instead of hatin’

SPLC has been bogus for decades and everybody knows it. Yet it keeps coming up.

My elder sis was a (classical) Lib pretty much her whole life – but was not immune to reality like many modern Libs are. Even 40 years ago she realized the then current SPLC “hate list” had… problems

At the time she was an RN working & living in Vermont, and was amazed at how many Vermont entries there were on the list – Vermont hardly being a hotbed of Hate Group activities. So she actually – on her own – checked out the names on the list. There were indeed – as you would expect – a few kkkrazy bigots in the state. What the SPLC did was take their word for how numerous and influential they were – so in at least one instance one guy with a newsletter or primitive website who claimed to be President or leader of several imaginary groups would be listed as a half dozen entries in the list.

Apparently even back then there was insufficient bigotry available to meet the Liberal demand for it. Which – if even my Lib sis could figure out on her own – a “professional” anti-bigotry group could have easily figured out using due diligence.

That particular leopard hasn’t changed it’s spots in the decades since.
Once a good and needed group, the SPLC has long since given up credibility and it’s stated purpose in favor of whatever will raise the most funds to keep it’s staff employed in well-paying jobs.

As in touch as the rest of the dupes and cultists that cite to them, not at all!

A fake, shameful organization through and through preying on the vulnerable.

SPLC is a foreign and domestic terror organization

The Socialist Progressive Liars Club says what?

2smartforlibs | May 25, 2025 at 6:40 pm

SPLC should be the only name on their list.

So according to the SPLC we live in a ‘white dominated, male supremacist, Christian social order’. Where does this place exist in reality not the fever dream fundraising appeals of SPLC? What are the specific regions, what States, what Counties and Cities where we can visit and see the evidence for ourselves? For that matter did this phenomenon spring into existence when Trump was inaugurated like Athena or did it exist during the Biden Admin whose DoJ ignored it b/c they were too busy rounding up Parents at school board meetings?

henrybowman in reply to CommoChief. | May 26, 2025 at 6:51 pm

Visit? Hell, prove to me one exists and I may move there.

BobM in reply to CommoChief. | May 26, 2025 at 7:17 pm

Interesting bit of trivia – the “Handmaiden’s Tale” author originally was supposedly worried about Muslim fundamentalists treating women like in her bestseller book.

Outside of some few-in-number Mormon offshoots – every crime against female rights her followers fear is in reality more of a Muslim Utopia / Dystopia. However, it is verboten Wrong Think that would never had made The NY Times Bestseller List regardless of sales. Much safer and more lucrative to criticize the Faith that will respond with “Bless Your soul” instead of the one that any preacher can issue a sharia-legal fatwah that it’s demanded by aged that you be murdered.

The SPLC is definitely a hate group.

BTW anyone from SPLC recently caught embezzling money again?

BobM in reply to ztakddot. | May 26, 2025 at 7:23 pm

Since their official policy is to lie to raise more money than the actual danger from actual hate groups would garner – it’s not surprising that members of a group separating the public from their money under false pretenses would occasionally separate the group from it’s money under false pretenses.

SPLC. Three lies in four letters. Not Southern, filthy rich and no use for the law.

henrybowman | May 25, 2025 at 9:48 pm

SPLC 2024 annual report just dropped.

George_Kaplan | May 26, 2025 at 12:22 am

Shrug. The SPLC is a hate group. They have near zero credibility and should be treated so.

With their need for relevancy however – to separate Leftist from larges sums of money, they need to keep peddling the threat of extremism and hate – but not the Leftists actually guilty of such. And so they label groups they despise as hateful, then look to see who those groups are connected and label those groups hateful. Eventually the GOP and all non-Democrat non-Left groups will be deemed hateful extremists, because of course anyone not Left must be.

SPLC is a Cultural Marxism group.
End of story.

In case you missed it, the Southern Poverty Law Center added Turning Points USA to its “hate map.”

Didn’t they do that years ago??? If they only did it now, I”m seriously astonished.

As Prof Jacobson documented many years ago, SPLC is a scam, with no credibility at all. He says it was once a serious and worthwhile organization. I’m willing to take his word for it, but I don’t recall such a time, and I have my doubts. I would suggest that it was always what it is now, and he just wasn’t originally aware of it. In any event, as far as I’m concerned anyone who cites SPLC as a source has destroyed his own credibility and I have no further interest in what he has to say.

    diver64 in reply to Milhouse. | May 26, 2025 at 5:49 am

I thought they had. It is hard to keep track of all the “hate groups” out there, though. I’m surprised that group hasn’t added white men employed people and the Republican Party to their map.

Probably the one group missing from the SPLC list is SPLC itself 😂😂

. “TPUSA and its spokespeople often warn their audience that their children, wives, religion, way of life and they themselves are under attack by various constructed enemies.”

It appears they have not been reading the news. None of the people calling for the destruction of societal norms by jamming drag queens into grade schools or boys into girls locker rooms for example are trying to make anything better.

I’m more interested in where that group has their money stashed in the offshore accounts that were identified years ago.

MoeHowardwasright | May 26, 2025 at 7:38 am

SPLC is a good case study as to why Congress should sunset 501c3, 501c4’s. The way to clean up the mess of trusts and charitable organizations is to remove the incentive. Force the large trusts to sunset within 10 years of the original owners death. Enough with these lifelong political instigators.

I see we now have a ‘hard right’, is that the step beyond a ‘flaccid right’?

Capitalist-Dad | May 26, 2025 at 8:51 am

If the bogus liars at SPLC think Turning Point USA is a hate group, it only demonstrates the unmitigated decrepitude and dishonesty of SPLC…but decent people already knew that.

    henrybowman in reply to Capitalist-Dad. | May 26, 2025 at 7:00 pm

All it takes to be designated a right-wing hate group is to have your display tables violently upended by left-wing thugs at least three times. TPUSA reached that goal months ago.

Charlie Kirk has been getting a lot of exposure and positive on social media platforms with positive feedback and engagement from the coveted 18 to 30 demographic. SPLC I would guess is just earning its keep with the left by trying to tamp CK down by de-platforming from his success. Lefty social media loves them some “SPLC Seal of Disapproval” cover.

The calculus being used by the execrable SPLC to label organizations as alleged “hate groups” is so farcically and contemptibly transparent — basically, any pro-conservative, pro-Israel and pro-life organization is slandered as such.

Meanwhile, violent agitators on the left among “Anti-Fa,” “Black Lives Matter” and the myriad pro-“Palestine” groups escape such classification.

What are the sources of SPLC’s $100 million annually?
Who are the recipients of SPLC’s $100 million annually?
Does the SPLC enjoy 501(c)(3) status?

surfcitylawyer | May 26, 2025 at 1:57 pm

Several years ago, a man was “inspired” by the SPLC to attack people at the Focus on the Family headquarters in Colorado Springs. Doesn’t that make the SPLC a hate group?

Milhouse in reply to surfcitylawyer. | May 26, 2025 at 5:04 pm

No, because SPLC defines “hate group”. It’s not a real term. They may as well stick a ™ after the term, because they own it, and they use it for anyone they don’t like.
