Trump Extending TikTok Deadline for 75 Days
“We do not want TikTok to ‘go dark.’ We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the Deal.”

President Donald Trump extended the deadline for China-based ByteDance to sell TikTok for 75 days.
Trump wrote on Truth Social:
My Administration has been working very hard on a Deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress. The Deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days. We hope to continue working in Good Faith with China, who I understand are not very happy about our Reciprocal Tariffs (Necessary for Fair and Balanced Trade between China and the U.S.A.!). This proves that Tariffs are the most powerful Economic tool, and very important to our National Security! We do not want TikTok to “go dark.” We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the Deal. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
In April 2024, former President Joe Biden signed a national security law requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok.
ByteDance challenged the law, which made it to the Supreme Court.
SCOTUS unanimously upheld the law, acknowledging that the TikTok law “is in many ways different in kind from the regulations of non-expressive activity that we have subjected to First Amendment scrutiny.”
“Those differences—the Act’s focus on a foreign government, the congressionally determined adversary relationship between that foreign government and the United States, and the causal steps between the regulations and the alleged burden on protected speech—may impact whether First Amendment scrutiny applies,” the Court explained.
Well, SCOTUS concluded that the First Amendment does not apply since ByteDance is a foreign company responsible for the app, and the law does not target speech.
ByteDance’s original deadline fell on January 19, the day before Trump’s inauguration.
Trump signed an executive order on the 20th that gave the company 75 more days to sell the popular app.

Comments
just prove that they are an actual security threat
done deal
if not
stop the grandstanding and keep investigating if necessary
they are chicoms and their colors show
Unless the law is repealed that is forcing this sale the Chinese based company HAS to sell if TikTok is to continue operating in the US.
they collect data like allll the rest
they use it for whatever means they want to
so if some security is breached ,,nail them and anyyy company
we keep relying on the government and so then the people actually lose the power and the government continues to $$$ decide ( payoffs bribes etc etc)
payoff the people to use the product which is business and that appears to be happening
There’s nothing illegal about data mining. Many of us don’t like it but there is a difference here. The data goes to a hostile foreign government.
China is being treated better than Canada or France.
well canada and france (also) treat the chinese better than they do america
Canada are France are supposed to be our friends although they often behave as they as if they aren’t. They need reminding from time to time.
Tik Tok. Clock is ticking.
Trump doesn’t want the Chinese Communists to “go dark” on US surveillance. And I thought he was only on the side of the Russian Communists.
There are still communists in Russia? I thought they had moved out and to the West.
Yeah, Russia is really pleased with Trump.
If you live in Hillary’s drunken dreams, which perhaps you do.
Yeah, right, Russia was so pleased they endorsed Kamala Harris during the election. Or did you forget that?
