Judge Releases Columbia Student Mohsen Mahdawi on Bail

Judge Geoffrey W. Crawford released Columbia student Mohsen Mahdawi from a Vermont ICE facility on bail pending his habeas petition.

Mahdawi played a key part in those awful anti-Israel, antisemitic protests at the school last year with Mahmoud Khalil.

He has been in the country over a decade ago. Mahdawi enrolled at Columbia in 2021.

DHS agents detained Mahdawi on April 14 during his naturalization interview. From NBC News:

Secretary of State Marco Rubio justified Mahdawi’s detention, saying his “presence and activities in the United States would have serious adverse foreign policy consequences and would compromise a compelling U.S. foreign policy interest,” according to the DHS notice for Mahdawi to appear.—In the government’s opposition to releasing Mahdawi, it said that law enforcement records indicated that Mahdawi has admitted “to being involved in and supporting antisemitic acts of violence” and “an interest in and facility with firearms for that purpose,” according to court documents reviewed by NBC News. The government included two exhibits with their filing, which have been filed under seal. One of the exhibits, which NBC News has reviewed, is a 2015 report from the Windsor Police Department in Vermont, where a gun shop owner told officers that Mahdawi “supposedly told” the owner that he used to build machine guns “to kill Jews while he was in Palestine.”

Mahdawi played the martyr big time when he left the courthouse:

“I am saying it clear and loud to President Trump and his Cabinet: I am not afraid of you,” Mahdawi said Wednesday outside the Vermont courthouse after his release.”What we are witnessing now and what we’re understanding is exactly what Dr. Martin Luther King has said before: Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” he added.

Major eye roll. The dude had a part in those antisemitic Columbia protests. He’s always wearing that scarf.

Love how NBC News describes the people detained by President Donald Trump’s administration as those “who have been critical of Israel.”

Just look at the featured image. Treated like a hero.

There’s a difference between being critical of Israel and being antisemitic.

These people shouted genocidal slogans. They targeted Jewish students, blocking them on campus or interrupting Jewish holidays.

They want to wipe Jewish people off the map. It’s not even about Israel. It’s about destroying Jews.

It got to the point where Jewish students hid their faith. Those at Harvard expressed thankfulness that they didn’t look Jewish.

Jewish students did not feel safe.
