Democrats, what did you expect when you elected loudmouth and self-righteous David Hogg as vice chair of the party?
Hogg wants to spend $20 million to oust older Democrat lawmakers (except the ones in safe districts.
Hogg hopes to dismantle the “culture of seniority” that he believes has infected the Democratic Party and made it less effective.
Yeah, the idea ticked off House Democrats. From Axios:
- “What a disappointment from leadership. I can think of a million better things to do with twenty million dollars right now,” swing-district Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) told Axios.
- “Fighting Democrats might get likes online, but it’s not what restores majorities,” she added.
- Another vulnerable House Democrat, speaking on the condition of anonymity to offer candid thoughts about a top party official, called the plan “very counterproductive and counterintuitive” and said “it would sure be nice to have some of that financial support.”
This is the kid who used the deaths of his classmates to make a name for himself and propel himself to the upper echelons of the Democratic Party.
You mean to tell me he’s putting his interests above everyone else? I’m totes shocked (sarcasm):
- “I think this is a mistake,” said a second House Democrat who spoke anonymously. “Now, are people pissed? … I don’t know a single person who is happy about it.”
- A third told Axios it “seems inappropriate for a DNC vice chair to threaten sitting Dems.”
- A fourth said they are “totally dumbfounded” that “instead of focusing on [winning], we’re focusing inward in a circular firing squad.”
It sounds like you can never tell Hogg no.
Granted, yes, older members should step aside, especially for health reasons.
Congress has become a retirement home. The average age of Congress if 58 years old: “Of its 435 members, the House of Representatives has more than a quarter in their 50’s — and only one in their 20’s.”
It’s the third oldest Congress in American history.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) won’t go away. Rep. Grace Napolitano (D-CA) is 88 years old. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) is 86.
Oh, Republicans are just as bad. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is 91. Freshman Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV) is 73. Rep. John Carter is 83.
One Democrat said “competition is not bad thing,” but the criteria should expand beyond age.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has already rebuked Hogg, standing by his policy of supporting Democratic incumbents.
