Israel, on Monday night, eliminated Hassan Ali Mahmoud Bdeir, a senior terrorist belonging to both Lebanon-based Hezbollah and Iran’s Quds Forces.
Bdeir, who was advising Gaza-based Hamas on its terrorist operations against Israel, was killed in an overnight Israeli strike on southern Beirut.
The slain terrorist, who was a member of Hezbollah’s “elite unit” 3900 as well as the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp’s Quds Force, “had recently directed Hamas operatives and assisted them in planning a significant and imminent terror attack against Israeli civilians,” the Israel military confirmed.
Hezbollah admitted to the killing of its Iran-linked top terrorist. Israeli strike “killed Hassan Ali Badir, a Hezbollah and Iran Quds Forces operative, in an overnight strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs,” the Jerusalem Post reported. “A Hezbollah source told the French news agency AFP prior that the target of the attack was Badir, who was also deputy head of Hamas’s Palestinian affairs department.”
Bdeir was eliminated while operating from Hezbollah’s southern Beirut stronghold of Dahieh. In late September 2024, Israel killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and several of his terrorist commanders in the same area.
The Israeli news website YNET reported the details of the overnight strike:
The IDF eliminated a Hezbollah terrorist in an overnight strike on the Dahieh, a Hezbollah stronghold on the southern outskirts of Beirut, the military said on Tuesday. (…)The Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen network reported that the operative eliminated in the strike did not hold a senior position within the Iran-backed terrorist group.Eyewitnesses told Reuters that explosions were heard throughout Beirut as Israeli fighter jets were spotted overhead. The overnight attack marks Israel’s second strike on the Hezbollah stronghold since the parties agreed to a ceasefire last November. On Friday, the Israeli Air Force struck a building in Dahieh used as a drone storage facility by Hezbollah’s aerial unit following rocket fire toward northern Israel. The IDF said the Lebanese government was responsible for any attack on Israel from its territory.
The airstrike was conducted in cooperation with Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad and security service Shin Bet, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed in a statement Tuesday. “Overnight, with the direction of the ISA [Shin Bet], the IAF struck and eliminated the terrorist Hassan Ali Mahmoud Bdeir, a terrorist in Hezbollah’s Unit 3900 and the Iranian Quds Force, in the Dahieh area, a key stronghold of the Hezbollah terrorist organization,” the IDF said in a joint statement with Mossad and Shin Bet.
Bdeir was killed as he plotted imminent terror attacks on Israeli civilians, the Israeli military revealed. He “recently operated in cooperation with the Hamas terrorist organization, directed Hamas terrorists, and assisted them in planning and advancing a significant and imminent terror attack against Israeli civilians,” the IDF statement added. “Given the immediacy of the threat, Bdeir was struck immediately in order to eliminate the threat posed by a terror attack intended to harm Israeli civilians.”
