Oversight Committee Grilled Mayors of Four Sanctuary Cities
This should be delicious.
The House Oversight Committee is holding a hearing with mayors of four sanctuary cities:
- Michelle Wu – Boston
- Brandon Johnson – Chicago
- Mike Johnston – Denver
- Eric Adams – New York City
Johnson Will Work With ICE?
I wish they would just answer yes or no. Chicago Mayor Johnson finally told Comer that the city would work with ICE:
With a criminal warrant, as we have done for 40 years, that criminal be turned over to ICE with a criminal warrant. They are subject to the federal laws, and that includes deportation.
Chicago Mayor Johnson just turned heel and said that Chicago will work with ICE in turning over criminal illegal aliens.
He's just trying to placate his constituents. His approval rating is less than 10%. pic.twitter.com/gtI93fBmlZ

Johnston Admits Denver Doesn’t Vet Illegal Aliens
Um, what?
🚨Denver Mayor Johnston was just forced to admit that his laws allow UNVETTED criminal aliens to flock to his city.
"We’re welcoming everybody… we don’t vet folks that arrive from Illinois or California with a background check when they come into the Denver airport anymore… pic.twitter.com/DaGKxTyut5

Jim Jordan Tears Apart Johnston Over Illegal Alien Who Assaulted Cops
Watch this five minute clip:
“Who’s Abraham Gonzalez?”
Mayor Johnston: “He is an individual that was released from the county jail on Friday in the City and County of Denver.”
Jordan: …Venezuelan gang member arrested by Border Patrol on September 20th, 2023, released into the country by the Biden administration. A few months later, he’s arrested in your city…
Jim Jordan just ripped the Mayor of Denver APART for five minutes straight.

Wu Cares More About Illegal Aliens
Wu wouldn’t say if she would order Boston law enforcement to cooperate with ICE.
Wu also attacked Border Czar Tom Homan, demanded he testify under oath. I say, BRING IT!
Boston's Mayor Wu just refused to answer whether she would order her law enforcement officers to cooperate with ICE.

Denver Mayor Won’t Ask to Repeal Laws Hindering ICE
Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert (R) asked Denver Mayor Johnston if he would ask the state government to repeal its sanctuary laws, which make it nearly impossible for law enforcement to cooperate with ICE.
Johnston said no:
JOHNSTON: Thank you, Congresswoman. Let me say no.
BOEBERT: Mr. Mayor. Yes or no? Will you join me?
JOHNSTON: I do not believe the detainer law needs to be changed, so I can tell you…
BOEBERT: Okay. You don’t want them to coordinate with ICE, but yet you’re blaming the state of Colorado for those policies. It’s a statewide law, it’s not a Denver law. And you’re blaming the state of Colorado for the law, yet you will not call for that law to be repealed, correct? Yes or no?
JOHNSTON: We do coordinate with ice presently. I’m happy to tell you what we do on that. So we’ve honored detainer requests more than 1226 times over the last.
BOEBERT: What about before…what about before a warrant? There are many issues before a warrant.
JOHNSTON: So if, what happens is if ICE sends us a detainer request…
BOEBERT: You have local law enforcement officers, Mr. Mayor, who are unable to coordinate with ICE to even get the initial warrant. They aren’t allowed to tell them that they are illegal aliens, so unfortunately, you won’t join me in asking for this law, demanding that this law be repealed, so let’s keep going.
.@LaurenBoebert asked Denver’s Mayor Johnston to call for a repeal of state laws that he claims make it impossible for him to coordinate with ICE.
Of course, the Denver Mayor refuses to do so.

Johnson Tries to Justify His Actions
Johnson bragged about his actions, even though he has a 7% approval rating. The stats about Chicago crime is complex and, well, overall still not great.
The city is safer due to welcoming illegal aliens? Oh, sweet summer child. No, it is not safer.
Johnson said:
Our efforts to improve public safety by building trust with and investing in our communities are working. Violent crime is down in Chicago. The city ended 2024 with its lowest homicide rate in five years.
The city is also safer because of our welcoming city ordinance. That law makes sure that the city’s police resources are focused on our local priorities. In fact, the 40 years of Chicago’s leaders have recognized that our policies toward civil immigration matters help to prevent and solve crimes.
Put simply, in the actions that amplify fears of deportations make Chicago more dangerous, those fears cause witnesses and victims to avoid cooperating with police. The cooperation of all people, regardless of their immigration status, is essential to achieving the city’s goals of reducing crime and pursuing justice for victims. When there is trust between cities, residents and the police, undocumented immigrants come forward to report crimes to local law enforcement and provide information that helps the police solve those.

Accountability
Oversight Chairman James Comer wants to hold these mayors accountable:
“Sanctuary cities make us all less safe and are a public safety nightmare.
“That is why I launched an investigation into sanctuary cities, and why these mayors are here today.
“We cannot let pro-criminal alien policies and obstructionist sanctuary cities continue to endanger American communities and the safety of federal immigration enforcement officers.
“Today, Mayors Wu, Johnson, Johnston, and Adams will be held publicly accountable for their failure to follow the law and protect the American people.
“President Trump and his administration are taking action against sanctuary cities. And Congress must follow by not allowing a single penny of federal funding to go to cities and states that prioritize criminal aliens over the American people.”

Look at Wu and her performative Catholicism. Like the current pope, it’s obvious which master she serves.
It’s hard to imagine that Chicago elected a mayor worse than Lightfoot, but here we are–will they elect someone worse than Johnson next time around?
Who cares as long as they’re not getting Federal dollars to bail them out.
Let it all burn.
see,, when white leftists were in charge of the dnc they were ALSO in charge of the poc battalion
that of course no longer exists and the fractious hard left is getting really upset at their former white lefty overlords ….
so as I predicted decades ago…the dems and rinos will form a party ..probably officially down the road sometimes
meantime the warriors aka blmplo run the show i these big welfare 3rd world enclaves
they are IN FACT making their inroads into the suburbs with their
bs named “affordable housing” and SENIOR LIVING facilities
DARINGGGG anyone to challenge their good sounding named veneer
(I mean who can argue against “senior” living!!??? you meanies)
The feds might be making someeee headway into the welfare states heavy fist but locally?????
Couldn’t stomach much of this. Democrat liars and frauds (but I repeat myself) spreading their leftist effluent by pretending facilitation of Democrat voter import—in direct defiance of our laws—is something noble. Brag about the “free” housing, “free” food programs, “free” healthcare, “free” schooling, all the way down to “free” Obamaphones lavished on your illegal alien pets, even as you rape real Americans with taxes to pay all the billions it takes to pay for this “free” stuff. Lie about how lawful illegals aliens are—even as your lies are exposed daily in news reports. In fact, tell it to the myriad victims of illegal alien crime. These mayors are just more hard evidence of the filthiest of the Democrat Party.
Why do they even bother putting honorable on those people’s name placards? All it does is let us know the entire proceeding is a joke because those people are the opposite of honorable
Sorry, Mr Comer, but that is a crime worse than anything the illegal aliens are doing. It’s a crime against the constitution. Whether we like it or not, the states (and the cities, which are creations of their states) have a tenth amendment right to refuse to cooperate with Congress’s wishes, and it is unconstitutional for either the president or Congress to compel them, including by cutting funding by more than what they can afford to absorb. So the Supreme Court has been saying for more than 200 years, and it’s time you absorbed the lesson.
ICE is no different from the slave catchers of the 1830s, or the revenooers of the 1920s. States that disagree with federal policy on slavery, prohibition, or immigration must nevertheless obey all valid laws, and may not obstruct federal law enforcement, but have the right to refuse any cooperation or assistance. And cities are governed by state law, whether that law prohibits “sanctuary cities” (as in Texas and Florida) or requires them (as in California and Colorado).
They may have the right to refuse cooperation, but they don’t have the right to profit from it
First of all, yes they do, if they can figure out some way to manage that. But mostly, they aren’t profiting. They’re losing hundreds of millions, and having to make cuts elsewhere since they can’t run deficits. That alone should make them reconsider their policies, but if they won’t they won’t, and that’s their right.
Racist Dems want an underclass of illegals to exploit. Have them wash dishes in their restaurants, mow their lawns, work the night shift in their hospitals, etc, to keep costs down. They don’t care who gets hurt, whether it’s the migrants or their non-elite fellow Americans. They’re just hiding their greed behind virtue signaling.
