It’s Happening – Second Lady Usha Vance Will Visit Greenland This Week

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright join Vance on the excursion to the Arctic island, against backdrop of Trump wanting Greenland for strategic reasons.

The saga of Trump and Greenland continues.

The last time I reported on the Arctic island, the Greenland parliamentary election resulted in a surprising victory for the center-right opposition party, Demokraatit (Democrats), which wants gradual independence from Denmark. The second spot went to Naleraq, which advocates for a rapid approach to independence from Denmark and appears to be a fan of a Compact of Free Alliance approach with the US.

Now Second Lady Usha Vance is scheduled to visit Greenland for a few days later this week, accompanied by one of her three children. According to the White House, Vance’s trip is intended to be a cultural visit, during which she and the US delegation will:

  • Explore historical sites
  • Learn about Greenlandic heritage
  • Attend the Avannaata Qimussersu, Greenland’s national dogsled race

The Avannaata Qimussersu seems fun. The dog race features approximately 37 mushers and 444 sled dogs.and serves as a celebration of Greenlandic traditions, demonstrating the importance of dog sledding in the country’s culture. It provides an opportunity for both locals and visitors to witness the skill and endurance of the mushers and their dogs as they navigate the challenging Arctic terrain.

I am sure that Vance will also conduct a charm offensive, in order to make Greenlanders receptive to partnering with this nation for better trade and business connections. However, the entourage will also include other key officials in the Trump administration as well.

US officials joining her on the Greenland trek include National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

Both Waltz and Wright are expected to tour a military base in Greenland during their visit.

Before President Trump took office, first son Donald Trump Jr. flew to Greenland has part of an overture to the giant island while the Trump administration seeks to acquire it.

Logically, one can conclude that energy and mineral resource development opportunities will be explored by interested Greenlanders, especially those taking charge. Waltz and Wright are expected to inspect the Pituffik space facility, a U.S. military base in Greenland, where they will receive updates from U.S. military personnel stationed there (which aligns with the enhanced Arctic security emphasis.

Now, the mainstream media is playing up all the tensions, especially statements made by the outgoing Prime Minister.

Greenland Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede slammed second lady Usha Vance’s trip to the Arctic island this week with a delegation of other U.S. officials as being part of the Trump administration’s “very aggressive” pressure campaign to take over the semiautonomous Danish territory.

“Until recently, we could safely rely on the Americans, who were our allies and friends, and with whom we liked to work closely,” Egede told the Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq on Sunday. “But that time is over, we have to admit that, because the new American leadership is completely and utterly indifferent to what we have stood together on so far, because now it is only a matter of them taking over our country over our heads.”

“The very aggressive American pressure against Greenlandic society is now so serious that the level cannot be raised any higher. The only purpose is to show a show of power to us, and the signal is not to be misunderstood,” he added.

However, I would like to note that currently, Greenland is under a caretaker administration. Egede, continuing only holds power until a new coalition government forms. Jens-Frederik Nielsen, as the leader of the party that won the most seats, is likely to become the next Prime Minister, but this is not yet confirmed…and he is far more business minded.

In conclusion, when President Donald Trump finishes his term, our Arctic security situation is likely to be far better than when he found it. The Greenlanders like likely to be much better off, too.

Wow the outgoing guy sounds just like our screeching paranoia prog trolls here. No substantive critique but a bunch of empty rhetoric and conjured existential crises.

See below reply from Clovis…but…sometimes a pretty smile and some kind words can work wonders to smooth the eventual invasion and assimilation of the country 😉

For better or worse, she’s had an office for almost 150-years. The First Lady’s office grew exponentially in the FDR Administration and the Second Lady’s office grew substantially when Ladybird Johnson became Second Lady. I had a professor in graduate school who was fascinated by the subject and would later author several books on it. A great example to study on the crazy dysfunction and pettiness of the second spouses of DC is The Petticoat Affair from Calhoun administration. The naked greed to climb the social ladder and wield power is arguably more pronounced in political wives than it is in their husbands.

Why do we use faux-royalty titles like First Lady, Second Lady, etc?

Hillary Clinton was the co-president and the co-president needs an office and a staff don’t you know.

I think this is a situation where a bit of graciousness would not go amiss.
The message so far has been “we’re going to annexe a dependent territory of a NATO ally. Um, no we’re not, we’re just going to make them an offer they (the dependent territory) can’t refuse while demeaning the ally. No, we’re not really, we just want to talk because we need your land”.
I’m a strong Trump supporter but I think this has not been handled as well as it could have been.
The real problem, I think, is that the US is schizophrenic about Empire and hegemony.
Of course most cultures are utterly insane by the standards under which we’d judge an individual, but this is a good example of the tensions disrupting the politics.
It is utterly reasonable to adopt a strong America First policy, particularly after what you’ve gone through since 2008, but in that case don’t be surprised if some of your allies get seriously aggrieved, and don’t just sit there saying “why can’t they understand that it’s for our good?”.

Trump is capitalizing on the goodwill engendered between the U.S. and Europe over the last 100 years to catch them with their defenses facing a different direction in order to take what he can. Europe will address this maybe sooner than we think.

    Well, I think not.
As I said, I am a Trump supporter, and I think most of the EU politicians are closet Marxists who are deeply opposed to the ideological underpinnings of western civilisation. They are also pretty low energy and have driven their economies into the ground.
The danger is rather, as rather well-pointed out in this JWR article: https://jewishworldreview.com/0325/McCarthy032525.php
that too aggressive an approach will trigger a nationalist rejection that overrides economic self-interest and embitters those who would be much better allies than the Euroloons currently in office.
We’re seeing this sort of effect in Canada, where the ghastly Liberal party is resurgent in the polls.
Remember what happened in the war of 1812: the US invaded Canada, with many convinced that the majority would rise up against their British overlords; instead the US struggled (until after the peace treaty was signed), committing (some claim) significant war crimes (by the standards applicable then, not now) on the way, and
“…the burning of York, and other American transgressions during the war, were later used by Canadian nationalists to create a national narrative that sees the “birth of the Canadian nation,” as a result of the conflict.”

I think the danger if we continue this Russia-like foreign policy, is that 1) we will have lost our soul, based on our founding principles, and 2) be treated much more like Russia is treated today internationally.

Your sole is meaningless when you have national leaders who couldn’t care less about your country, and in fact utterly detest your country and do everything they can to sell you out.

purchasing land is not as “russian” as you are leading us on

just like fixing up a neighborhood is called gentrification >>racism ( by the left) completely intentionally ignoring the moral legality of doing so

if you can tell us how this is immoral I’d change my vote

Tell us how our purchase of the Louisiana territory, Florida, Alaska, the Gadsden purchase, Philippines, Virgin Islands, and Water Islands were Russia like.

Instead of Tucker who gets most of their talking points right, you should check out the Russian Media Monitor channel on YouTube that covers them all. There you’ll hear them say that the U.S. stole Alaska from them— and they want it back.

First I’ve never watched nor intend to watch Carlson. Making assumptions like that is bad form.

Next, we bought it fair and square for what was at that time a fair price. Russians always think they are being screwed over. They have a massive inferiority complex mostly because they have been mostly inferior, They are also like the muslims in that they believe once Russian forever Russian.

Finally, I have read Putin says they want it back. I don’t know who came first in saying it. I don’t care. It’s ours. It’s a state not a territory. They can’t have it. We’re not Ukraine or Georgia. They can F themselves for all I care. Now if they want California, Washington, Oregon, Vermont, Massachusetts or New York – we can talk.

To be clear, Trump is not planning on annexing Greenland. He’s trolling, which performs several important tasks. First, it highlights how China has been trying to wedge their economic foot into the door, and does a bit of stomping on said foot. Second, it gives the howling screechfest of the Left something immaterial to screech about so they’ll stay out of the way of the important things.

And third, it’s fun.
