Wisconsin Supreme Court Election Alert: Dark Money Boosting Liberal Susan Crawford’s Bid
The fate of the Republican majority is at stake. Are Republicans paying attention?
Conservatives are raising concerns over liberal Judge Susan Crawford’s campaign for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, pointing to a flood of dark money backing her, including contributions from groups tied to billionaire George Soros. With the election fast approaching, several prominent conservatives and media outlets have sounded the alarm about what they see as an effort to reshape Wisconsin’s highest court through massive outside spending.
Former Wisconsin Governor and Young America’s Foundation President Scott Walker warns that national liberal donors are pouring money into Crawford’s campaign to secure a court that will overturn key conservative policies and potential the House of Representatives:
That is the reason liberals across the nation are pouring money into her campaign for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. They want her and the other three radical activists on the bench to throw out our voter ID law and draw new maps that get rid of two or three seats held by Republican members of Congress.
The big government union bosses are also betting on her to help throw out Act 10. Our reforms saved Wisconsin taxpayers billions of dollars and restored power to the hardworking taxpayers and the people they elect to run their schools and local and state governments.
Despite concerns over Crawford’s deep-pocketed backers, the race remains tight. Critics point to her controversial donor network, including disgraced former Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist (D), who was accused of sexual harassment and racial discrimination during his tenure. Norquist’s scandals included an extramarital affair that led to a staffer’s attempted suicide—an incident settled out of court. He also made headlines for welcoming the Communist Party to Milwaukee for its national convention, saying, “we share many things in common” with the extremist group.
Meanwhile, conservative activist and get-out-the-vote strategist Scott Presler is urging Republicans not to ignore this critical race, warning that control of Wisconsin’s Supreme Court—and the future of conservative policy in the state—hangs in the balance.
No one is taking the Wisconsin Supreme Court election seriously.
