Trump Orders DOGE to Slash Federal Workforce
Musk: “Competence and caring are needed to cut the budget deficit in half.”

President Donald Trump ordered the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to slash the federal workforce and stop the waste. He also told agencies to comply with DOGE.
The order states:
(c) Reductions in Force. Agency Heads shall promptly undertake preparations to initiate large-scale reductions in force (RIFs), consistent with applicable law, and to separate from Federal service temporary employees and reemployed annuitants working in areas that will likely be subject to the RIFs. All offices that perform functions not mandated by statute or other law shall be prioritized in the RIFs, including all agency diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives; all agency initiatives, components, or operations that my Administration suspends or closes; and all components and employees performing functions not mandated by statute or other law who are not typically designated as essential during a lapse in appropriations as provided in the Agency Contingency Plans on the Office of Management and Budget [OMB] website. This subsection shall not apply to functions related to public safety, immigration enforcement, or law enforcement.
The OMB has to hand over a plan detailing how it plans to reduce the workforce “through efficiency improvements and attrition.” The plan must “require that each agency hire no more than one employee for every four employees that depart, consistent with the plan and any applicable exemptions and details provided for in the Plan.”
The EO says that the order does not affect the IRS hiring freeze. It also does “not apply to functions related to public safety, immigration enforcement, or law enforcement.”
DOGE Chair Elon Musk attended the signing and answered more questions from the media than former President Joe Biden did in four years.
We have to cut the waste. Musk pointed out that the economy will grow when you cut it.
One of the many complaints against Musk is that he’s an “unelected bureaucrat” because that is now just a thing…even though we’ve known since at least August that Trump would appoint Musk to oversee DOGE.
Anyway, Musk said he expects Trump to scrutinize him and not let him get away with anything.
And just going back to the president’s comments at a high level, what are the two ingredients that are really necessary in order to cut the budget deficit in half—from two trillion to one trillion?
It’s really two things—competence and caring. Competence and caring are needed to cut the budget deficit in half. And I fully expect to be scrutinized—to be given a daily, detailed examination. I expect that.
So it’s not like I think I can get away with something. I’ll be scrutinized. But with the support of the president, we can cut the budget deficit in half—from two trillion to one trillion. And then with deregulation—because there are a lot of regulations that don’t really serve the public good—we need to free the economy.
If we do that, we’ll get economic growth—maybe three percent, four percent, maybe five percent. And that means you can get a trillion dollars in economic growth. You cut the budget deficit by a trillion between now and next year there is no inflation. There’s no inflation in 2026 if the government stops borrowing so much. That means that interest costs decline. Everyone’s mortgage, car payment, credit card bills, student debt—monthly payments drop. That’s a fantastic scenario for the average American.”
Imagine a big purchase going on, and the price from one year to the next stays the same. The debt payments drop. How great is that for the average American?
This is a brilliant explanation from Elon Musk on how to cut the budget deficit in half and why it's important for everyday Americans to support DOGE.

One reporter tried to come off as smart because they fact-checked Musk! That $50 million worth of condoms for Gaza? Oh…it was for Mozambique.
Did the reporter care about the waste? No. The reporter wanted Musk to correct the country.
Musk had a great answer and the look on Trump’s face is priceless:
REPORTER: “Mr. Musk, you said on X that $50M of condoms were sent to Gaza. After fact checking, it was going to Mozambique. Can you correct this?”
ELON MUSK: “I’m not sure we should be sending $50M of condoms anywhere. That’s really an enormously large amount of condoms.”

Afuera!
It was beautiful!
What will become of these expert malingerers?
They are in deep crap, probably lacking any marketable skills. There will be a huge drop in their standard of living. For some reason I am unable to have any empathy for them.
My cousin, who worked for USAID, was the Supervisor in charge of numerically organizing pencils by the hardness of the graphite core, and then alphabetizing them by manufacturer.
She told me that she had hundreds of thousands of pencils stored in the office supply room, ready when whenever someone needed a pencil, whether a Number 2, 3, etc.
She even had a staff of 8 Graphite Organizing Specialists GS-9-2796 who kept these pencils in order.
Her inventory was so phenomenal that she has a case of Weissenborn pencils from 1860.
The problem was, she knew her job was in jeopardy because fewer and fewer people came to her location to pick up pencils. They were getting them delivered by Amazon!
So, she was let go last week, along with the Buggy Whip Inventory Control Supervisor and the Slide Rule Repair Director.
Horrible times I tell you. Done in by a multi billionaire who take food from the mouths of others.
I still wax my slide rule yearly. With only the finest whale oil.
I was using a slide rule in school just as the calculator was being introduced. A fellow pupil said, “Hey I use a pocket calculator.” I said I use a logarithmic scale, and he said nobody cared what I weighed.
I have a 20″ mahogany K&E slide rule, a gift when I was 12. Used it until 1970s, switched to an HP RPN calculator, I still use HP calculators today. There are Android RPN apps which function the same.
They perhaps should learn to code?
Maybe not. Sounds like DOGE already has the cream of the crop hard at work.
What’s the difference between Musk and the government?
Musk can get the job done with 6 people, while the government requires 600,000
As deportation ramps up there will be openings in agriculture, processing/packing plants, restaurants, hospitality, construction, lawn care and for those none too picky about the tasks day labor/odd jobs as a side hustle.
There are going to be a lot of former government employees fighting each other to get a menial job.
The ‘hewers of wood and drawers of water’ are doing necessary labor for our society. Most do so honorably putting in an honest day of work.
rump has put together a fantastic team, Musk being a crown jewel.
Why send condoms to cultures that don’t approve of them?
“Why send condoms to cultures that don’t approve of them?”
Because there were no condoms, just an invoice for $50 million, from

Some of the questions were so stupid Musk’s little boy could answer them.
Cute kid, it is great that Musk pays so much attention to kids.
Note that the child does NOT have a GameBoy or a mobile in his hands, captivated by a screen.
Proof that all that was needed to bring a profligate, derelict, and contemptuous federal bureaucracy to heel was leadership, will and gumption. The vile Dhimmi-crat racketeers and hustlers were content to keep the gravy train and hustles going, because their innumerable cronies, courtiers, dependents and grievance-mongers are so deeply addicted to federal cash.
Leadership yes, absolutely, but also a Presidential candidate explicitly running on a promise to defang the bureaucracy, end the grifter gravy train, curtail outdated regulations and so on. The public responded with a majority voting for him and providing not just a mandate but a legislative majority in HoR and Senate. As the efforts go on day by day with each effort publicized online and with interviews from top Staff and the President himself the admin is bypassing the usual legacy media stranglehold on the news cycle. Whatever else DJT and his advisors are they also demonstrating their bold strategic planning with each tactical advance leaving the d/prog and their legacy media allies reeling from the nonstop onslaught.
The BIG question is: why are “some” in government (and out) in favor of fraud, waste, and squandering of taxpayer dollars? When Warren, AOC, and others object to Musk, they’re saying: “We’re in favor of more fraud, waste and squandering of taxpayer dollars!”
Are they actually listening to themselves? And why are they still in office?
Check their financial portfolios. Their net worth ballooned while working for the paltry pay the government paid them.
There is a kickback in them there hills
Because elections are two years away and some recalls are unconstitutional.
They are against this simply because it is something Trump is doing.
This is all they have, Trump derangement dialled up to Eleventy Eleven!
“They are against this simply because it is something Trump is doing.”
Yes — it’s the same phenomenon as when comment-section regulars at LI massively downvote even those posts of mine that wholeheartedly endorse their own.
Just to be clear: I am happy to see what Doge is doing, and I’ve been defending it in other forums — including international ones — where it’s under attack. Especially Doge’s audit of USAID.
Because when you have a degree in grievance-group studies or lesbian dance theory, a make-work government “job” is all one is good for.
Not even that. I work in a technical agency where “lesbian dance theory” is not really a thing.
Trump ran on this platform. His alliance with Musk, and the whole implementation of DOGE, was a principal part of his campaign. He’s doing exactly what he was elected to do, he’s being transparent while doing it, and he’s doing it with a level of ruthlessness that has been lacking in Republicans for many decades.
I, for one, am no ways tahhred of winning.
If this guy pulls it off, after all that was, is and will be thrown in his way, he will enter the pantheon of American leaders that have truly shaped the country. So far, so good. So nice the Democrats are helping. It’s worth the bluster (Trump’s too).
Strange that when there is finally transparency coming about, some squeal and show their lip service. Thankfully they are exposed for all to see. As they say, democracy dies in darkness. Guess it takes a builder to find and remove the rot in the post WW2 world before starting to build anew.
The reality is that Trump has 2 years to do this before the mid terms and the old GOP raises its ugly head to undermine Trump and the American people. Who knows what dirty things desperate politicians will resort to in order to protect their power?
As nasty as this sounds, one can hope that enough of the old guard strokes out, have heart issues, or something else that some of them will be gone.
Oh if only the GOP swamp could be sent to the wilderness with the Dems.
Wait for the DOGE boys to connect the dots between money going to overseas NGO’s and money flowing into political PAC’s and more specifically ACT Blue. That is what they are all afraid of. Demonrats and RINO’s. This can and will be the largest political scandal ever. It’s why the demonrats decided to die on this hill.
You’ll notice that Congressional Republicans didn’t uncover any of this themselves, just like they failed to uncover any of the most damaging information about Hillary Clinton. All of the worst information about her private email server and the Benghazi disaster came from lawsuits filed by Judicial Watch. House & Senate Republicans are remarkably incompetent when it comes to uncovering Democrat governance, particularly when it comes to painfully wasteful spending. And when a small group of Republicans do get together and try to leverage an elimination or just a reduction in these outrageous programs, they’re othered by mainstream Republicans (See: Freedom Caucus). One might conclude Republicans in Congress don’t want to see the federal gravy train come to an end either.
It will be fascinating to see what the proposed 2025/26 Budget looks like from the GOP. I wouldn’t be the farm on much of the Doge stuff being taken care of statutorily.
Oh boy, that January CPI report is…brutal.
Of course, the CPI is all Trump’s fault. DJT, in fact, could have done better with his inflation/price comments during the campaign. He can bring the RATE of inflation down, but we are not getting back Biden’s extra 20% in actual price increases – except perhaps a bit in energy prices.
It’s ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. Not serving the public, not supporting the nation’s best interests, not taking care of those in need.
The Federal Treasury has been looted by these SOBs for decades, and the jig is now up. Expose these thieves and send them to prison.
Regarding, “One of the many complaints against Musk is that he’s an “unelected bureaucrat” because that is now just a thing” – Elon Musk was elected – by DJT. And so are many of the people working in his administration.
When I worked for DOD I knew so many GS employees that literally did nothing all day but monitor one spreadsheet, go out to lunch, send their contractors to all the meetings, turn in their contractors work as their own, and take expensive work trips/vacations. The whole federal contractor system started because GS employees do nothing and can’t be fired.
I worked for the federal government in 2006. That job paid $74K a year. I quit a year later to work for the state where I can actually get work done. The same job today pays $126K /year. No change in job description, duties, responsibilities. Someone explain why the federal pay jumped so much in such a short time span? Also, explain why Samantha Power – a vile Obama appointee – had a net worth of $6 million when she became the chief of USAID and three years later had a net worth of over $30 million while living on a federal salary of $186K/year?
Since her entire career has been in civil service, she needs to account for all of her assets. Round up the entire fed workforce, audit and imprison for corruption, fraud and grand larceny. Those who remain need to have a reduction in pay and benefits and can we limit the leave plan for government workers? Let’s get it to match private industry.
