IL Gov. Pritzker: Prices Going Up at Grocery Stores Because Democracy is Being Taken Away

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker recently appeared on MSNBC with host Nicolle Wallace to talk about how Democrat governors are trying to fight Trump on various issues and suggested that inflation is occurring because “democracy is being taken away.”

Aside from the obvious utter nonsense of such a statement, it is remarkable how Democrats suddenly want to talk about the economy so much today. Four years ago, they told us inflation was transitory. Now they can’t stop talking about the price of eggs.

The Hill has details:

Pritzker: Trump actions ‘threat to our democracy’Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) on Wednesday called President Trump’s efforts to reshape and shrink the federal government a “threat to our democracy.”“The things that I’m speaking out about now, about, you know, the threat to our democracy, this is not a message to win elections on, it’s something people need to know,” Pritzker told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on “Deadline: White House.” “They need to know that that’s happening.”But Pritzker underscored the importance of showing what exactly that means, noting that “nobody knows” what democracy being at “risk” looks like.“And the reality is, what people need to hear about is what the effects of that are,” he added. “The prices at the grocery store are going up because democracy is being taken away, the impact on you in terms of your health care, 770,000 people in Illinois will lose health care as a result of what Donald Trump and Elon Musk and the Republican Congress are doing right now.”

Pretty safe to say that they’ve got nothing else.

According to Illinois Policy, Pritzker and residents of Illinois may have bigger issues to worry about in the near future:

Pritzker’s $1.5B in wishful thinking might leave taxpayers poorerGov. J.B. Pritzker’s record $55.2 billion Illinois state budget for fiscal year 2026 relies on more than $1.55 billion in boosted revenue estimates to cover the cost, but state reports suggest reality could be less rosy and leave taxpayers covering the difference.Revised revenue predictions in the budget Pritzker released Feb. 19 show he expects the state to see $55.45 billion in revenue in the coming fiscal year, which starts July 1. Based on that, he proposed increasing state spending to an all-time high of $55.2 billion – up $2 billion from the current fiscal years’ $53.2 billion spending plan.Pritzker’s hope runs up against estimates the state would only collect $53.4 billion from his own Governor’s Office of Management and Budget based on Illinois Department of Revenue data in November. Add to that, a stark forecast for the state’s economy predicted in February by Moody’s Analytics for the Illinois General Assembly’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability.

It’s going to be hilarious if this guy runs for president in 2028.
