IL Gov. Pritzker: Prices Going Up at Grocery Stores Because Democracy is Being Taken Away
“The things that I’m speaking out about now, about, you know, the threat to our democracy, this is not a message to win elections on, it’s something people need to know”
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker recently appeared on MSNBC with host Nicolle Wallace to talk about how Democrat governors are trying to fight Trump on various issues and suggested that inflation is occurring because “democracy is being taken away.”
Aside from the obvious utter nonsense of such a statement, it is remarkable how Democrats suddenly want to talk about the economy so much today. Four years ago, they told us inflation was transitory. Now they can’t stop talking about the price of eggs.
The Hill has details:
Pritzker: Trump actions ‘threat to our democracy’
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) on Wednesday called President Trump’s efforts to reshape and shrink the federal government a “threat to our democracy.”
“The things that I’m speaking out about now, about, you know, the threat to our democracy, this is not a message to win elections on, it’s something people need to know,” Pritzker told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on “Deadline: White House.” “They need to know that that’s happening.”
But Pritzker underscored the importance of showing what exactly that means, noting that “nobody knows” what democracy being at “risk” looks like.
“And the reality is, what people need to hear about is what the effects of that are,” he added. “The prices at the grocery store are going up because democracy is being taken away, the impact on you in terms of your health care, 770,000 people in Illinois will lose health care as a result of what Donald Trump and Elon Musk and the Republican Congress are doing right now.”

Pretty safe to say that they’ve got nothing else.
Kind of wild to see the same people who said a 22% cumulative price increase (far more for food) over three years wasn’t a big deal suddenly care deeply about grocery prices. https://t.co/g5NXuIAcVs

According to Illinois Policy, Pritzker and residents of Illinois may have bigger issues to worry about in the near future:
Pritzker’s $1.5B in wishful thinking might leave taxpayers poorer
Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s record $55.2 billion Illinois state budget for fiscal year 2026 relies on more than $1.55 billion in boosted revenue estimates to cover the cost, but state reports suggest reality could be less rosy and leave taxpayers covering the difference.
Revised revenue predictions in the budget Pritzker released Feb. 19 show he expects the state to see $55.45 billion in revenue in the coming fiscal year, which starts July 1. Based on that, he proposed increasing state spending to an all-time high of $55.2 billion – up $2 billion from the current fiscal years’ $53.2 billion spending plan.
Pritzker’s hope runs up against estimates the state would only collect $53.4 billion from his own Governor’s Office of Management and Budget based on Illinois Department of Revenue data in November. Add to that, a stark forecast for the state’s economy predicted in February by Moody’s Analytics for the Illinois General Assembly’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability.
It’s going to be hilarious if this guy runs for president in 2028.

Can we kick chicago out of the union?
Excise it from Illinois and make it a territory.
Cut it out from Illinois and float it up to Canada.
No, the prices went up because the government can’t stop wasting and printing money.
Exactly, more $ chasing available goods results in rising prices.
A politician from Chicago talking about Democracy. Pritzker’s huge appetite for everything contributes mightily to high prices.
It’s free payback for the right talking about the economy. Inflation was not Trump’s fault and wasn’t Biden’s fault either, it was just nobody producing and everybody consuming. Fewer goods, same dollars chasing them.
Until the supply chain works itself back into stability and the necessary businesses come back into being, the economy will stay screwed up.
Trump is the best bet to make that happen, with deregulation, but it’s all really covid’s fault.
It wasn’t Biden’s fault in the sense that nothing can really be the fault of a senescent old fool.
But it was certainly his administration’s fault and that of everyone in Congress who voted for all the loony spending – during Covid and after.
The inflation was created by the actions of the Biden admin. It didn’t “just happen”.
How does inflation happen? The government prints money. Who Siad to print money? Biden.
Now see, it’s not that hard to figure out.
Not to worry. The GOP and ‘the moron’ are going to bring that spending WAY down. ( SNICKER).
I’m not sure if your point here, DOGE has found someone like a trillion dollars to cut. Democrats are fighting tooth and to stop them from cutting anything
What a coincidence! Adam “Brain Dead” Schiff posted “As food prices soar higher, only large corporations are doing well. Donald Trump’s tax breaks for billionaires = less for the middle class. Less fairness, less security. Less money in your pocket, less chance to save, less for you.”
Politicians are also doing well. Just look at their increases in net worth.
He is correct actually. The undemocratic and thoroughly corrupt Inflation Reduction Act’s dishonest handing out billions to nonsense DEI
…causes is indeed what caused rampant inflation during the Bleep administration.
I think food prices in Illinois are going up because Pritzker is eating all of it. Just my 2 cents.
Because you learned somewhere about the “Law of Supply and Demand” I’m assuming.
(Pritzker just knows “Demand”.)
I was thinking the same think. Jumbo must be hungry if he’s talking about food.
Like Homer Simpson, of Springfield, he is a remorseless eating machine.
We’ve got knucklehead up here in Minnesota, now there’s fat-head in Illinois.
That’s 4¢ now.
Our system of government is most assuredly not a democracy, you corpulent clown. It’s a constitutional republic. Perhaps if you were paying attention in civics class instead of chowing down on Doritos you might not be suffering from cognitive dissonance right now. It is people like you that have gotten this country into the mess that it’s in. If you think things are rough now you’d better pucker up because they’re only going to get tighter.
Actually, cutting a lot of the Federal workforce would help with inflation, as it would reduce demand for goods and services. Also, cutting waste, fraud and abuse would reduce demand, lowering inflation, and, to the extent the Federal deficit can be reduced, interest rates would come down, further helping the consumer.
I don’t think FatAss has ever been concerned about going to bed hungry or wondering how much his next meal is going to cost.
This is the same jackass who removed all the toilets in his second mansion so it would be assessed at 10% of market value in order to lower his property taxes.
/facepalm/
Not a single layoff as a result of DOGE’s work will be of a person elected to office. How is that “taking away democracy”?
During Biden’s term of office more illegal aliens entered this country than the population of 35 states.
When you have such a large number of people come in such a short period of time, it overwhelms the country’s resources to provide—food, shelter, medical, jobs, schools—and, according to the the law of supply and demand, it can only result in inflation.
Isn’t this guy Gov of a State which keeps expanding the eligibility of its Medicaid and other State run/funding health IN to non-traditional recipients and way beyond the ability of the State revenue to finance?
Pritzker/Christie 28
Vote for us and you’ll get a ton of democracy!
Hot dog eating contest?
Good thing we’re a Republic and not a democracy. Democracy sucks as all the founders knew and would have told you.
Pritzker is yet another Jew who makes me embarrassed to be one. I got to switch to a less embarrassing ethnic group.
Prickster going on MSNBC is kinda like a tree falling in the woods.

Perhaps Illinois should lower taxes to help out its citizens. When we lived there sales tax was 10% in our suburb of Chicago and 12.5% in the city proper. It was insane. And with inflation, the government gets that 10 or 12.5% on the higher number so pritzker probably loves it.
